Former Denver Broncos quarterback Paxton Lynch is currently trying to resurrect his career by playing in XFL, resurrected spring football league that made its long-awaited return this weekend. But considering his performance in Week 1, he still has a long way to go before he gets a look from NFL again.

Starting under center for Orlando Guardians against the Houston Roughnecks, Lynch delivered an underwhelming performance. The 29-year-old player struggled to move the ball consistently and was eventually benched in the third quarter while his team trailed 21-6. He finished the game with 136 passing yards, a touchdown, and an interception.

The only positive thing for Lynch is that he will likely get a shot for redemption in Week 2. His backup Quinten Dormady also had a disappointing outing in the Roughnecks game, throwing for 142 yards, one TD, and two picks.

Paxton Lynch played college football with Memphis and was a highly-rated prospect entering the 2016 NFL Draft. He drew interest from the Dallas Cowboys, but the Broncos got to him first, trading up to select him 26th overall.

In his first two seasons as a pro, Lynch played five games, including four starts, but failed to live up to the expectations the franchise had for him. He ended up being demoted to the third-string QB in 2018 before being released by the Broncos in the same year.

Since then, Lynch has spent time on practice squads with the Seattle Seahawks and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also played in Canadian Football League and USFL but didn’t have much success there either.

The Seattle Seahawks are giving former Denver Broncos quarterback Paxton Lynch another shot in the NFL after he remained unsigned in the 2018 season.

Paxton, 24, was one of the most sought after names in the 2016 draft pick. At the time, he was due to join the Seahawks as a No.26 overall selection. However, the Dallas Cowboys and the Broncos dearly wanted him.

The Cowboys were willing to offer their first and third-round selections for the quarterback. When Denver learned about the dal, they upped their game and ended up with him. Dallas owner Jerry Jones was so mad at not getting Paxton that he spent the next few weeks talking about it during TV interviews.

In Denver, Paxton did not live up to the hype. He lost his quarterback position to Trevor Siemian. In the two games he started, the then 22-year-old managed to complete passes at 59% and at 6 yards per attempt. In 2017, he ended up losing his backup position to Brock Osweiler. The Broncos ultimately cut him in March 2018 after a record of 79 of 128 for 792 yards. He also had four touchdowns and four interceptions in the five games he played.

Now in Seattle, the 24-year-old hopes to get a spot if he wows the team at training camp later this upcoming offseason.

Denver Broncos quarterback Paxton Lynch has had some rough time in the past week. Lynch, first round pick from 2016 NFL Draft, was first demoted to the third-string quarterback and is now being booed by his own fans.

In the second preseason game, 23-24 loss against the Chicago Bears, Paxton Lynch took the field late in the third quarter and received loud boos. It didn’t help that the 24-year-old had another lousy game after stepping onto the field. Lynch completed less than half of his passes, 5 out of 11, and passed for 39 yards while receiving two sacks. In the first preseason game, Lynch was 6 of 11 for 24 yards and had an interception.

I just haven’t been playing well. It’s not acceptable, especially playing quarterback here. You have to play well and give (the Broncos) an opportunity to win every week,“- said Lynch said after the game. “Yeah, if you don’t believe in yourself then no one else is going to believe in you. That’s what I’ve got to do, I’ve got to hang on that and come to work every day and believe I can get better.

Broncos coach Vance Joseph said on Saturday that he feels terrible about Lynch but understands the fans.

I feel bad for Paxton, but our fans want to win,” – said Joseph. “That’s what it’s about. It’s about passion, I should say. But I feel bad for Paxton. He has to ignore it and go play. It’s professional football. No one is going to hold your hand, so he has to go out there and perform.”

After being selected 26th overall, Paxton Lynch spent his rookie season serving as a backup for Trevor Siemian. He played in three games and finished the 2016 season with 497 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, and one interception. In the last season, due to a combination of injuries and bad play, Lynch started two games and had 295 passing yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions.
