The Los Angeles Clippers orchestrated their biggest comeback of the 2023-24 NBA season on Sunday, overcoming a 26-point deficit against the Cleveland Cavaliers to get a 120-118 win. And they have their All-Star Paul George to thank for that.

George delivered one of his best performances of the season against the Cavs, scoring 39 points, 23 of which came in the fourth quarter. He also added 11 rebounds and seven assists while playing every minute of the second half.

According to George, he was the one who asked Clippers’ head coach Ty Lue to keep him in the game for the entire second half.

“I wanted to stay in, and I just felt we were making a good push,” George said. “And he trusted me to just continue it on. But I’ve been saying, I just played until the clock hit zero. I thought we were in striking range and my aggression just got higher, and so it was just a will to win at that point.”

It was an important win for the Clippers as it increased their chances of keeping the home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. They are currently sitting in fourth place on the Western Conference standings with a 50-28 record and have a two-game advantage over the fifth-placed Dallas Mavericks.

The Los Angeles Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank confirmed that the franchise remains committed to building a team around stars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George next season. Frank’s announcement came after the Clippers were dumped out of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs in a five-game series loss to the Phoenix Suns.

“When we traded for Paul and signed Kawhi as a free agent in 2019, it wasn’t for one or two years, wasn’t three or four,” Frank announced. “Every year you have those guys, they give you a chance. And so it’s about surrounding those guys to continue to improve your chances.”

Frank will be hoping that the Clippers will be able to make more use of both players next season after injuries cut their appearances short this season. George was sidelined for the last nine games of the regular season and the entire playoff clash with the Suns due to a sprained right knee, while Leonard missed the final three games against the Suns due to a torn meniscus in his right knee.

The Los Angeles Clippers NBA title hopes took a big hit on Tuesday night after their star forward Paul George suffered a knee injury. George was hurt in the fourth quarter of a 101-100 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder and needed to be carted off the court.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, George is set to miss the rest of the NBA’s regular season. He will be re-evaluated in two to three weeks, after which the Clippers will determine his status for the playoffs.

George’s injury couldn’t come at a worse moment for the Clippers. The team went through some initial hiccups after adding several players around the NBA trade deadline, including Russell Westbrook and Eric Gordon, but have since found their stride. Before the OKC loss, the LA team won five out of their six games.

The most important thing for the Clippers will now be to survive George’s absence and remain out of the Play-In part of the standings. They are sitting at No.5 in the West at the moment, being 1.5 games clear from the Thunder and the Dallas Mavericks, two teams looking to make a run for the Top 6 and the automatic playoff spot.

Paul George already missed time this season but produced on a high level when healthy. He is averaging 23.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game in 2022-23.

Paul George and Kawhi Leonard found themselves at the forefront of what was a hard-fought 135-129 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday night.

Memphis grabbed a 14-point lead over the Clippers after scoring a mammoth 51-point haul in the third quarter. In response, George and Leonard linked up to score 25 of the Clippers’ final 28 points in order to complete the team’s comeback.

“We just played harder,” George said. “Which really was the difference. We just brought another level. We played with some grit and we changed … I just felt tonight we just had a winning spirit.”

Overall, George contributed 42 points and 11 rebounds on the night while Leonard scored 34 points along with 10 rebounds and four assists. New arrival Russell Westbrook also got in on the action, grabbing nine points, six assists, and five rebounds.

By completing their comeback, the Clippers have become the first team to win a game despite conceding 50 points in a single quarter since the Cleveland Cavaliers back on Nov. 12, 1991, against the Milwaukee Bucks. This win also brought an end to the Clippers’ five game losing streak, marking their first victory since the All-Star break.

Shooting guard Paul George made his return from injury for the Los Angeles Clippers in Tuesday night’s 120-110 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers at the Crypto.com Arena. George’s return to the team has been warmly received by the Clippers, who have now lost eight of their last 10 games.

In George’s opinion, injuries have been at the heart of the Clippers’ poor form. “We’ve just been behind the ball in terms of injuries, lineups, and guys in and out,” George observed. “Urgency starts now. We’ve got to start playing with some desperation.”

George was absent for five consecutive games due to a flare-up of his right hamstring injury that previously kept him out for seven straight games earlier on in the season.

While the Clippers showed some signs of promise, eliminating a 14-point deficit in the second quarter en route to taking a four-point lead in the third before the 76ers outscored them 36-13 after that to secure the win. George grabbed 13 points and eight rebounds during his 28 minutes on the court.

Currently, the Clippers are seventh in the Western Conference standings at 23-23. They will need an urgent boost in performance in order to hold onto a playoff spot.

The LA Clippers managed to spoil the Los Angeles Lakers’ celebration party on Wednesday night by beating them 116-109 to start the 2020-21 season.

Before the game tipped off, the Lakers marked the last season’s title-winning season by awarding the team with rings to commemorate their success.

The ceremony was filled with heartwarming moments, as the medical workers, players’ families, NBA commissioner Adam Silver, and even some celebrities took part in the festivities.

The Lakers’ players, however, couldn’t enjoy the moment for too long—because it was time to focus on the new season and play the Clippers. But it wasn’t the greatest of starts.

Following a disappointing playoff exit in 2019-20, the Clippers came to Staples Center to play, and it showed from the very start. They dominated the Lakers in the first quarter, outscoring them by 20 points.

The Lakers managed to bounce back in the second, finding a rhythm and managing to cut the Clippers lead to just two before the half.

However, the Clippers managed to pull ahead once again in the third quarter, creating a double-digit lead to enter the final period thanks to some big moments from Paul George.

The Lakers tried to make another run in the last 12 minutes but couldn’t contain the Clippers’ offense enough to make it close.

The Clippers were led by George, who finished the game with 33 points, including 26 in the second half. Kawhi Leonard added 26 points, three assists, and two steals.

LeBron James starred for the Lakers on the other side with 22 points, while Anthony Davis finished the night with 18 points and seven boards.

The Lakers are hosting Dallas Mavericks next while the Clippers travel to Denver to face the Nuggets.

All-Star forward Paul George followed up his recent comments about finishing his career with LA Clippers with actions on Thursday.

The Clippers announced that George inked a four-year extension that keeps him under contract through 2023-24. The deal also contains a player option for the 2024-25 season.

According to reports, the extension is worth $190 million, which puts George on track to earn $226 million in the next five years.

“I am proud to call this my home and look forward to doing my part in helping make the team a tremendous success—both on and off the court—in the years ahead,” said George after the deal became official.

Securing Paul George’s services was crucial for the Los Angeles Clippers, considering that he could have hit free agency next year. This would’ve been a nightmare scenario for the organization, after they gave up a massive package last year to bring him from the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The trade saw the Clippers giving up perspective guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and veteran Danilo Gallinari while also sending five first-round draft picks and two pick-swap rights to OKC.

In his first year with Clippers, George struggled to perform on his All-NBA level from 2018-19. He averaged just 21.5 points per game, his lowest in an injury-free season since 2013, while also underperforming in the playoffs where Clippers blew 3-1 lead in the Western Conference semis against the Denver Nuggets.

The Clippers are now banking that George will return to All-Star level under new head coach Ty Lue, and that they can resurrect their NBA title hopes this season. The organization is probably also hoping that George’s commitment will prompt teammate Kawhi Leonard to do the same.

The Los Angeles Clippers have superstars Kawhie Leonard and Paul George under contract for just one more year, putting the franchise in the danger of collapsing if the duo decides to move on. Still, Clippers’ new head coach Ty Lue believes there is no room for worry.

In a recent chat with ESPN, Lue talked about the Clippers’ struggles last season and the concerns of some fans that Leonard and George might opt to enter the free agency next summer. For the 43-year-old coach, that doesn’t seem to be an option as he believes the duo is there to stay.

“I think Kawhi and PG are here to stay for a long time,” said Lue. “I think, in their situation and where they want to be, it’s here with the Clippers.”

Lue, who spent the past season as an assistant, also explained that he and the rest of the organization need to do their part in putting Leonard and George in the position to win.

“We just have to make it a great environment, and we have to win,” he added.

It is great that Lue remains positive, but the fact is that the departure of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George would equal a disaster for LA Clippers. While the franchise brought in Leonard for free, they needed to part ways with a scary package to get in George, including five first-round draft picks and talented guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

This makes it imperative for the Clippers to do everything to keep Leonard and George on board. Any other scenario would put them in an even worse situation than in the 2000s when playoffs were wishful thinking for the franchise.

Completing one of the most improbable comebacks in recent NBA playoff history, the Denver Nuggets have eliminated the Los Angeles Clippers after being down 3-1 in the best-of-seven series.

Denver defeated Los Angeles in Game 7 by a score of 104-89, earning themselves a spot in the Western Conference Finals where they will face LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and the Los Angeles Lakers.

The main storyline of Game 7 was that the Nuggets’ leaders showed up and led the team, while the Clippers stars didn’t. Denver’s top scorer Jamal Murray had 40 points and five assists while their star big man Nikola Jokic recorded a triple-double with 16 points, 22 rebounds, 13 assists, three blocks, and two steals.

For the Clippers, reigning Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard was almost invisible, scoring only 14 points. Paul George was even worse, shooting a dismal 4-16 from the field and 2-11 from behind the arc, scoring only 10 points.

Remember, the Clippers gave up five first-round picks to get George, who they believed would be the difference-maker in the playoffs, where the franchise has had a 50-year history of misery.

The Nuggets will kick off their series against the Lakers on Saturday. The last time these two teams met in the Western Conference finals was 2009.

Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic scored 42 points in Game 1 of the team’s playoff series against the Los Angeles Clippers, setting a record for the most points ever scored by a player in a playoff debut.

However, it wasn’t enough for the win and the points are only half of the story. Doncic had 11 turnovers in the game, which Dallas lost by a score of 118-110.

Asked about his performance, Doncic said “Terrible. I had 11 turnovers. I’ve never had that much.”

The Mavericks dug a deep hole for themselves at the start of the game, falling behind 18-2 early. Doncic was a turnover machine in the early period, coughing the ball up five times in the opening minutes of the game.

After regaining his composure Doncic took over, scoring 15 points and grabbing five rebounds as the Mavericks went on a 48-18 run that put them up by 14 points.

The Clippers eventually rallied back and won the game, led by their star players Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, who combined for a total 56 points to put Los Angeles up 1-0 in the series.
