Ligue 1 team OGC Nice announced on Friday that the club parted ways with manager Patrick Vieira.

The decision came after Nice suffered a crushing 3-2 home defeat to Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday. This was the club’s fifth straight loss and seventh in the past 10 games.

Vieira leaves Nice sitting at No.11 in domestic competitions and without any chances to advance from the Europa League group stage.

Adrian Ursea, who served as Vieira’s assistant, will take over the managerial duties on an interim basis.

“The Nice board sincerely thanks the former France international for his commitment and dedication to the development of the club and wishes him every future success in his coaching career,” said Nice in an official statement.

Patrick Vieira joined Nice in the summer of 2018 following two successful seasons in MLS with New York City FC. He was expected to replicate the success from the United States to Ligue 1, and was actually off to a good start—before things turned sour.

In his first two seasons, Vieira achieved No.7 and No.5 finishes. Despite lack of success in Cup competitions, it looked like he could get the club to even bigger heights.

But now that things have fallen apart for the French legend this season, he’ll now look for a new challenge elsewhere. Meanwhile, Nice hopes a new voice can steer the ship in the right direction.

Inter Miami is still without a head coach despite the fact that they will have their inaugural MLS season in 2020. David Beckham’s team has been linked with several high-profile names recently, with former NYCFC manager Patrick Vieira emerging as a top candidate for the job. Still, it seems like Vieira, who currently coaches Ligue 1 side Nice, doesn’t have intentions to get back to the U.S.

Vieira was recently asked by reporters whether he would consider taking another job, and the Frenchman denied such a possibility saying he is happy with his current club.

“It’s flattering seeing your name everywhere but I am under contract with Nice,” said Vieira. “I have known since I arrived how lucky I am to be involved with this club’s project. I don’t have any intention or desire to go and look elsewhere.”

Vieira was also linked with his former club Arsenal as a replacement for Unai Emery, but the club went on and appointed Manchester City’s assistant Mikel Arteta as their new manager.

Inter Miami reportedly also tried to get legendary Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti, who was recently fired by Seria A side Napoli. However, Ancelotti decided to take on the more lucrative offer from the Premier League and become the boss of Everton.

David Beckham-owned FC Inter Miami are set to make their MLS debut in 2020, but the team is still without a head coach. As it turns out, one of the reasons for this might be that their desired candidate needs some convincing.

British Telegraph reported on Wednesday that Miami is looking to secure services of Arsenal legend and current Nice manager Patrick Vieira. According to the magazine, Vieira emerged as the team’s preferred candidate and they are set on making him a big offer to lure him back to MLS.

Vieira already has experience of coaching in MLS, as he served NYCFC’s manager between 2016 and 2018. He took over Nice ahead of 2018/19 season, leading them to a seventh-place finish in Ligue 1 in his first season. This season, however, the team is struggling and sits on the 15th spot.

Inter Miami is reportedly determined to make a big name hiring, with some prominent names already being linked with the club in previous months. Some of the candidates include River Plate’s Marcelo Gallardo and Belgium’s national team manager, Roberto Martinez.

While Patrick Vieira missed out on the job as Arsenal ‘s manager to Unai Emeri, he could still end up one day at the helm of the club where he made a name for himself. At least if you ask his former Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger.

Wenger recently spoke with Canal Football Club about Vieira’s rise as a coach and stated that he thinks he is destined to coach Arsenal one day.

“I see him as the Arsenal coach one day because I think he is too young to go directly into international football,” – said Wenger. “I think his life will go through club football. He has constructed his career intelligently and patiently.”

“He left when he was young, he went to New York, he is now in Nice, and he has taken time to mature and learn his profession,” – he added. “And something you can’t give: he has a natural charisma, he is both elegant and authoritative.”

Patrick Vieira played with Arsenal for almost 10 years and managed to win several trophies with the team including three Premier League titles. He also played with Juventus, Inter Milan, and Manchester City before retiring in 2011.

Vieira started his coaching career with Man City’s youth ranks before taking over MLS side NYFC in 2016. He spent three years in MLS compiling the 40-22-28 record.

Vieira took over French Ligue 1 club Nice in June 2018 and is currently doing a solid job as the team sits on the eighth spot in the league.

After months of speculations, Patrick Vieira has left Major League Soccer and took a new challenge in Europe. Vieira resigned as New York City FC coach on Sunday, only to be confirmed as the new coach of Ligue 1 side, Nice. He will serve as a replacement for Lucien Favre, who left Nice to join Bundesliga’s Borussia Dortmund.

According to various sources, Patrick Vieira signed a three-year-deal with the French club. Nice confirmed the news on their official social media.

He has a very interesting experience of the highest level as a player, and he has now been coaching for a number of years,” – said Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivere of Vieira for the club’s official website. “We think he is capable of taking our players forward. We remember the winner that he was on the pitch, and we hope he will be able to bring that culture here.

When we went to meet with him, I was quickly won over by him as a man and the way he spoke. We were looking for someone that we could be on a level with on the personal side of things. He was implicated in the discussions and huge amounts of humility pour out when he speaks.” –Rivere added.

Patrick Vieira will also bring his three assistants to Nice- Christian Lattanzio, Kristian Wilson, and Matt Cook – all of whom previously collaborated with him at Manchester City’s youth squad and NYCFC.

In the last couple of months, Patrick Vieira was linked to various European sides including Nantes and Arsenal, while publicly stating that he is ready to make the transition to Europe. Since joining NYCFC in 2016, Vieira has managed to make big things, taking a team that finished 17th in 2015 to a 2nd place finish in 2017. Under Vieira, NYCFC also had a great 2018 season start, currently sitting second in Eastern Conference.

Patrick Vieira is doing a great job with New York City FC, leading the team to the top of the MLS standings so far in the 2018 season. Vieira’s success with NYCFC has now caught the attention of English side Arsenal, who see the 41-year old as an ideal replacement for the departing Arsene Wenger.

It turns out that Vieira, who played for Arsenal from 1996 to 2005, also thinks that it might be time to continue his coaching career in Europe.

It’s an honour to be mentioned with Arsenal,” Vieira said. “It was somewhere I spent nine years and I love the club. I played my best football there and made my name in the game. I am always going to have a deeper relationship with Arsenal. That [alone] is not enough to coach that team, but I’m ready to coach any side in Europe.”

Since being appointed as NYCFC’s coach in 2016, Patrick Vieira has managed to improve the team’s record in each season. After finishing 14th in 2015, NYCFC climbed to 4th in Vieira’s first season in 2016 and then finished 2nd in 2017.

Despite feeling ready to coach in Europe, Vieira isn’t sure whether he would be ready to leave MLS in the middle of the season.

If the call came, it would be really difficult,” – he said. “It would be difficult because we will be in the middle of the season. And, like every time I’ve been approached by any teams, I’m sitting with the guys from the [City Football Group] and will let them know. They will make the decision because I’m under contract.

Reportedly, Patrick Vieira is a bit of a longshot to get the Arsenal job, with the team considering more experienced candidates like Luis Enrique, Massimiliano Allegri, and Leonardo Jardim.
