After missing out on Russell Westbrook, the Chicago Bulls decided to turn to another former Los Angeles Lakers point guard. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Bulls plan to sign veteran Patrick Beverley.

Beverley became available after agreeing to a contract buyout with the Orlando Magic over the weekend. The 34-year-old player was traded to Orlando by the Lakers ahead of the NBA trade deadline in a four-team trade that also included the Denver Nuggets and the LA Clippers.

Beverley started all 45 games with the Lakers so far in 2022-23, averaging 6.4 points and 3.1 boards per contest,  his worst since the 2012–13 campaign.

The deal will see Beverley return to his hometown of Chicago. He is expected to give the Bulls more energy on the point guard position, while the team also hopes his defensive skills can help them make a push for the playoffs. Chicago is currently sitting at No.11 in Eastern Conference with a 26-33 record, trailing two games behind the Toronto Raptors, who hold the last play-in spot.

Patrick Beverley played with the Houston Rockets, the Clippers, Minnesota Timberwolves, and the Lakers over the course of his NBA career. He has three NBA All-Defensive nods while averaging 8.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in his 11 years in the league.

The Los Angeles Lakers finally made a significant trade, but not the one everyone was expecting. The team announced on Thursday that they had acquired guard Patrick Beverley, who comes to LA from the Utah Jazz.

In order to get Beverley, the Lakers gave up guard Talen Horton-Tucker and forward Stanley Johnson.

Announcing the trade, the Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka said the team was excited to have Beverley on board due to his “toughness and competitive spirit.”

“We’re confident that Patrick’s ‘3-and-D’ style will fit in nicely with the other pieces of our roster, and align perfectly with Coach Ham’s philosophy of hard work and smart play,” Pelinka added.

Beverley spent the 2021-22 season with the Minnesota Timberwolves, playing in 58 games and averaging 9.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 1.2 steals per contest. He landed with the Utah Jazz earlier in the offseason as part of the trade that sent All-Star center Rudy Gobert to Minnesota.

The Lakers are expected to benefit from Beverley’s defensive abilities, considering how poorly they performed on that side of the ball last season. The 34-year-old player is considered one of the best shot-stoppers in the league and has three NBA All-Defensive nods. The thing that was also probably attractive to the Lakers was the fact that Beverley is on an expiring contract.

The Jazz, on the other hand, had no use for Beverley as they are in rebuilding mode. Picking up Horton-Tucker is a bonus, as the former second-round selection showed flashes of potential in the past and could be useful for them in the future. Johnson, on the other hand, will probably be a trading chip to be used in other deals.

Beverley previously also played with the Houston Rockets and the Los Angeles Clippers. In his 10 years in the NBA, he averaged 8.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.5 assists while shooting 37.8% from deep.

Veteran guard Patrick Beverley is on the move again. According to multiple reports, the Memphis Grizzlies traded Beverley to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Jarrett Culver and Juancho Hernangomez.

Beverley was a member of the Grizzlies for less than three days, being dealt to Memphis from the LA Clippers as part of the Eric Bledsoe trade.

Confirming the trade on Twitter, Beverley posted a series of tweets in which he expressed enthusiasm about the move.

Beverley is expected to help the Timberwolves on the defensive end while also providing experience and veteran leadership to a young team. He is expected to be the primary option from the bench for Minnesota in the 2021-21 season.

Beverley averaged 7.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists for the Clippers last season. He was limited to just 37 games, having dealt with multiple injuries during the campaign.

The Grizzlies, on the other hand, are most likely banking that Culver and Hernangomez can emerge as valuable rotational pieces.

Culver should be particularly interesting for Memphis as he is just two seasons removed from being taken with the sixth overall pick in the NBA Draft. The Texas Tech product had a solid rookie season, but his development has been hampered by his shooting struggles. As a pro, he is only hitting 29.8 percent of his threes and shooting just 40.6 percent from the floor. If the Grizzlies manage to find a way to help him fix this, Culver could prove to be a steal for them in the long run.

Hernangomez, on the other hand, showed flashes of talent in his five seasons in NBA but struggled with consistency. Suiting up for Denver Nuggets and Timberwolves, the Spaniard averaged 5.7 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. It remains to be seen whether his new surroundings will help him get his career back on track.

LA Clippers just witnessed another key player leaving the NBA bubble in Orlando. After center Montrezl Harrell exited the camp last week, Clippers’ guard Patrick Beverley reportedly followed on Tuesday.

Reportedly, Beverley left in order to “address an emergency personal matter.“ However, the 32-year-old starter intends to re-join the Clippers at some point in the future.

It would be a tough blow for Clippers in case they are forced to enter the playoffs without Beverley and Harrell as the duo emerged as important contributors for the team in 2019/20.

In 48 starts this season, Beverley averaged 7.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game. He was also integral for Clippers’ defense, as he was often tasked with guarding the opponent’s best player.

Harell, who also left the bubble due to personal matter, emerged as an NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award candidate this season. Before the NBA suspension in March, the 26-year-old had 18.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.

LA Clippers are set to play their first exhibition game in Orlando on Wednesday against Orlando Magic. They will resume the season on July 30th against West Conference leaders Lakers.

According to the ESPN‘s sources, the Los Angeles Clippers point guard Patrick Beverley won’t play again this NBA season. Beverley underwent microfracture surgery in Houston on Wednesday in order to repair a torn meniscus and the recovery period is estimated to nine months.

Having missed five straight games with sore right knee, Beverley made a return to the court on Monday in the game against the New York Knicks. He played 22 minutes in that game. During his time with the Clippers, Beverley averaged 12.2 points, 3.1 assists, 1.7 steals and 2.9 rebounds per game.

Previously the Los Angeles Clippers lost guard Milos Teodosic, who was a starting point guard for the team, having joined in the summer. Teodosic is out with a left plantar fasciitis injury and he isn’t expected to make a comeback anytime soon. Since Teodosic and Beverley were unable to play, the Clippers used Lou Williams, Austin Rivers and rookie Sindarius Thornwell in the role of point guard. Despite the strong start of the season, when they managed to get 4 straight wins, the Clippers now have a 5-11 record with 9 straight losses.

Patrick Beverley started his professional basketball career in 2008, playing for Dnipro in Ukraine. After averaging 16.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 2.2 steals and 1.3 blocks per game in 46 games, Beverley entered the 2009 NBA Draft where he was selected as the 42nd overall pick by the Los Angeles Lakers. He was later traded to the Miami Heat but only played six preseason games. After a strong performance for Spartak St. Petersburg in the 2011-2012 season which brought him EuroCup MVP honors, Beverley signed a contract with the Houston Rockets. Although he had a shaky start with the Rockets, Beverley was assigned to the starting point guard role and established himself as one of the league’s best defensive players. He was traded to the Clippers in 2017 off-season in a deal that sent Chris Paul to the Rockets.

One of the most talked about rookie players in the past couple of years, Lonzo Ball, debuted for the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night. Although we had a chance to see Ball in the NBA Summer League and preseason games, the game against the Los Angeles Clippers was his first NBA regular season game. Patrick Beverley of the Clippers made sure that Ball remembers his debut.

After just a few minutes into the game, Beverley showed he won’t be easy for the rookie. He played aggressive defense on him, and picked Ball up on the full court, never backing down through the entire game. Ball didn’t cope well with Beverley’s pressure while committing few turnovers and allowing Beverley to strip him of the ball at one point. Ball ended his first regular season Lakers game on a disappointing note. The Lakers lost the game 108-92, with Ball scoring just 3 points while shooting 1-6 from the field. He added 4 assists and 8 rebounds. On the other hand, Beverley scored 10 points, alongside 3 rebounds and 2 steals.

Although Beverley is an exceptional defender, who plays hard each time, he might have an extra motivation to spoil Ball’s debut. Lonzo’s father LaVar Ball praised his son before he was even drafted, and said at one point that Ball is “better than Stephen Curry”. According to Stephen A. Smith from the ESPN’s first take, this and other LaVar Ball’s statements about his son caused NBA players to have a special motive when they face Lonzo Ball. Even Beverly made that a similar comment after the game.

I just had to set the tone,” – Beverley said after the game. “I told him after the game, due to all the riff-raff that his dad brings that he is going to get a lot of people coming at him. He has to be ready for that, and I let him know after the game. But what a better way to start than 94 feet guarding him.”

When asked about his debut, Lonzo Ball admitted he wasn’t on the highest level by saying: “We got blown out, so I didn’t play too well.

Although Ball is an exceptional talent, it looks like he will have to prove himself from the very beginning.
