The Atlanta Braves’ injury hits just keep on coming. After losing ace starting pitcher Mike Soroka to a torn Achilles’ tendon on Monday night, they found out on Wednesday that infielders Ozzie Albies and Matt Adams would also hit the 10-day injured list.

Albies, Atlanta’s starting second baseman and a 2018 NL All-Star, had gotten off to a slow start thanks in large part to wrist discomfort that he felt as a result of a bone contusion.

On Wednesday, the team decided that it would be better to give Albies an extended period of rest in order to let his wrist recover. It comes as no surprise, considering that Albies was hitting only .159 on the season.

Adams, who has featured as Atlanta’s primary designated hitter and occasional first baseman this season, is dealing with a strained left hamstring that he suffered on Tuesday while trying to beat out a ground ball.

The former Cardinals slugger was hitting .212 with 2 home runs and 7 RBI before hitting the IL.

Charlie Culberson is expected to take over a majority of the starts at second base during Albies’ absence, while Austin Riley and Nick Markakis are the primary candidates to pick up Adams’ at-bats in the DH position.

No immediate timetable has been given for Adams’ and Albies’ returns.
