Orlando City and head coach Oscar Pareja reportedly agreed to a contract extension. The club is also reportedly working on new deals with technical director Ricardo Moreira and executive vice president Luiz Muzzi.

Pareja’s contract was set to expire at the end of 2023. The new deal is expected to keep him with the MLS side at least through the 2025 campaign.

Keeping Pareja around made sense for Orlando City, considering he is the most successful head coach in the club’s MLS history. Since the Colombian took over in 2020, Orlando has made the MLS Cup playoffs every year. Pareja also brought the club its first trophy, winning the U.S. Open Cup in 2022.

The 2023 campaign was also a resounding success for Orlando City. They finished the regular season in second place in the Eastern Conference and made the quarterfinals of the MLS Cup, matching its previous best postseason achievement.

Oscar Pareja is an MLS veteran, having played in the league in the late ’90s and early ’00s. He also coached Colorado Rapids and FC Dallas, winning the MLS Supporters’ Shield and U.S. Open Cup with the latter in 2016. Pareja also spent two seasons in Liga MX coaching Club Tijuana.

Orlando City SC decided to part ways with head coach Jason Kreis on Friday in an attempt to shake things up after six straight losses in the Major League Soccer. The team has confirmed the news on their social media.

This is a very difficult decision to take, but sometimes in sports, we must make tough decisions with the best future of the organization in mind,” – said Orlando City CEO Alex Leitao in a statement. “I have enormous respect for Jason and the work his team did in Orlando. He arrived in a difficult moment and is leaving with a legacy of respect and professionalism. Now is the time to look forward, keep our heads high and continue pushing toward the many goals we set this season.

Orlando City SC started the season in great fashion, posting a 6-2-1 record, but then lost six consecutive games including a 0-3 defeat against Montreal Impact. Majority of these losses came in a convincing fashion since Orlando conceded 20 goals and scored only 5. This team’s poor run caused them to slip down to sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings. Assistant Bobby Murphy will serve as an interim until Orlando City SC finds a long-term replacement for Jason Kreis.

Kreis joined the Orlando halfway through 2016 season as a replacement for Adrian Heath, leading the team to eighth place in the Eastern Conference. In 2017, the team struggle once again, finishing on the 10th place.

Prior to Orlando, Jason Kreis coached New York City FC, and Real Salt Lake, with whom he has won MLS Cup in 2009.
