The Oregon Ducks wrapped up their 2023 college football season with a dominant 45-6 win over the Liberty Flames in Fiesta Bowl on Monday night. The star of the night was Oregon’s quarterback, Bo Nix, who finished the game with 363 passing yards and five touchdowns.

Nix completed 28 of 35 passes in the Fiesta Bowl, bringing his 2023 pass completion percentage to 77.45%. By doing so, he set the new NCAA record for single-season completion percentage. The previous record was held by Mac Jones, who completed 77.36% of his passes in the 2020 season with the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Nix finished the 2023 campaign with 364 completed passes out of 470 attempts while throwing for 4,504 yards, 45 touchdowns, and only three interceptions. This was his second year with the Ducks, having transferred to Oregon from Auburn ahead of the 2022 season.

Thanks to a prolific season, which also saw him finish third in Heisman Trophy voting, Nix is expected to be drafted in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be the No. 5 quarterback in the class behind USC’s Caleb Williams, North Carolina’s Drake Maye, LSU’s Jayden Daniels, and Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy.

The Oregon Ducks’ playoff dreams were officially taken away on Saturday night after a surprising 31-28 defeat at the hands of the unranked Arizona State Sun Devils.

Oregon, who was ranked #6 in the standings heading into the night, found themselves unable to contain freshman quarterback Jayden Daniels, who led the Sun Devils to their biggest win of the season.

Daniels, who was named the starting quarterback in August and became the first-ever true freshman to start a season opener for Arizona State, was unleashed in his team’s 3-point win on Saturday.

He completed 22 of 32 passes for a whopping total of 408 yards and 3 touchdowns, having his way with an Oregon secondary that found itself beaten time and time again by the talented freshman’s arm.

After Oregon opened the scoring with a first-quarter touchdown, the Devils scored 24 unanswered points. Oregon mounted a late rally, scoring two quick touchdowns to narrow the gap to 24-21 halfway through the final quarter.

Arizona State, however, was able to score again to take a ten-point lead, allowing them to close out a victory that clinches bowl eligibility for them and kills any hope Oregon had of making the College Football Playoff.
