New York Giants reportedly had the opportunity to flip some of their standout players like tight end Evan Engram and nose tackle Dalvin Tomlinson before the trade deadline with multiple teams inquiring about them. Still, both players remained in NY after general manager Dave Gettleman didn’t like the offers he received.

Engram, who is enjoying an up-and-down season in 2020, has been on the radar of several TE-needy teams, including Buffalo Bills and Arizona Cardinals. Still, Giants believe that the 26-year-old player has a bright future ahead of him and has set an unusually high price tag.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Giants insisted on getting a first-rounder in any deal, but the chatter around the league is that a second-round pick would likely do it. Still, no one even offered that so Giants opted to stay put.

Engram, who was Giants’ first-round pick in 2017, has 189 receptions for 2,098 yards and 13 touchdowns so far in his NFL career.

Green Bay Packers were among interested teams that were trying to get Tomlinson, but their offer of a middle-round pick was also not good enough for the Giants. This decision is a bit more puzzling, considering that the 26-year-old player is currently in the last year of his deal and that the parties haven’t made any progress on an extension.

New York Giants are continuing with the efforts to overhaul their offensive line and have now landed the services of free agent right tackle Mike Remmers. According to reports, Remmers, who last played with Minnesota Vikings, inked a one-year deal.

SNY’s Ralph Vacchiano reports that the contract is worth $2.5 million with $1 million guaranteed. Remmers can earn an extra $1.5 million through incentives, bringing the worth to $4 million.

The deal was confirmed by the player’s agent Brett Tessler on Twitter.

“Happy to announce that Mike Remmers just agreed in principle to a deal with the New York Giants and is looking forward to moving back to his natural position of right tackle. His last 2 seasons playing that position he helped his teams to a Super Bowl and an NFC Championship game,” – Tessler tweeted.

‏ Mike Remmers started his NFL career in 2012, signing a deal with the Denver Broncos as an unrestricted free agent. He was cut by the Broncos before the start of the season but ended up spending time with several teams before finally landing a starting gig with the Carolina Panthers in 2014.

After two years in Carolina, Remmers signed with the Vikings, who used him as a starter on several positions including right tackle, tackle, and right guard.

It appears that New York Giants are ready to part ways with their Pro Bowl outside linebacker Olivier Vernon. According to ESPN, the Giants have given other NFL teams an impression that Vernon is available for a trade.

Reportedly, the reason why the Giants want to move Vernon is his contract which pays him $31 million for the next two seasons. If the team doesn’t find a suitor for the 28-year-old, they are also considering releasing him according to sources. Both moves would save them $11.5 million against the salary cap while leaving them with $8 million in dead money.

Vernon played a total of 11 games with the Giants in 2018, and finished the year with 30 tackles and 7.0 sacks, while also having one fumble recovery.

Olivier Vernon joined New York Giants in 2016, after he had four successful seasons with the Miami Dolphins. The Giants decided to give him a big five-year contract, worth $85 million with $52.5 million guaranteed. At the time it looked like a wise decision, but Vernon began struggling with injuries since arriving in New York which caused him to miss nine games in the past two years.

Vernon’s NFL career stats include 51.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles, one interception and one touchdown.
