Right fielder Nomar Mazara will have to wait a bit longer to make his debut for the Chicago White Sox. The team announced on Wednesday that Mazara will miss the start of the 2020 season after being placed on the 10-day injured list.

The team didn’t reveal details about Mazara’s injury. 

Reportedly, White Sox intended to use Mazara as their starting right fielder this season. The 25-year-old right fielder batted .268 with 19 home runs and 66 RBIs in 116 games with Texas Rangers in 2019.

“He’s a young man who is going to be extremely helpful to us,” said Chicago’s manager Rick Renteria when asked about Mazara. “Sooner we get him back, the better.”

In the meantime, Renteria is forced to turn to alternative options, which include veteran outfielders Adam Engel and Nicky Delmonico and utility player Leury Garcia.

Nomar Mazara made his MLB debut with Rangers in 2016 and has played 537 games in the majors so far. His career stats include .261 batting average with 79 homers and 308 RBIs.

White Sox acquired Mazara back in December, sending prospect Steele Walker to Texas in exchange.
