Although he helped Golden State Warriors win an NBA championship trophy in 2018, shooting guard Nick Young is having a tough time finding a new job in the league.

In the 2018/19 NBA season, Young had to wait until December to find a new gig, signing with Denver Nuggets. However, he ended up playing just four games with Nuggets before being released 20 days later.

Young has remained a free agent since his stint with Nuggets and failed to land a spot on a team despite participating in a number of workouts. All of this made the 34-year-old start wondering whether his time in the NBA is done.

In a recent interview with Complex, Young stated that he will retire if he doesn’t get signed this season.

“This is pretty much like my last year, if nothing happened,” – Young told Complex. “I’m just going to call it, it’s over. No more Swaggy P.”

Although Nick Young is known as the excellent shooter of the ball, the teams are reluctant to give him a chance due to the lack of effort he puts on the other side of the ball. Young was never known as a good defender, and as he has gotten older, he gotten worse, becoming a liability on the court. Still, there is a chance that a team pursuing playoffs might give him another chance in case of injury or if they end up falling in a shooting slump.

Young’s career averages include 11.4 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists per game on a .376 percent shooting from three-point range.

Former Golden State Warriors guard Nick Young, also known as Swaggy P, finally managed to land a contract with an NBA team for 2018-19 season. The 33-year-old, who won the NBA Championship with the Warriors last season, has agreed to a one year deal with the high-flying Denver Nuggets.

Nuggets’ President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly confirmed the move on Monday announcing that the team signed Young using the injury hardship relief exception granted by the NBA. Guard Brandon Goodwin was waived in a corresponding move.

Although they started the season in a great fashion, and currently find themselves on the third spot in the Western Conference, Denver Nuggets faced with a string of injuries in the recent weeks. Guards Will Barton and Gary Harris are currently out with groin and hip injuries respectively and are looking to miss a significant time alongside forward Paul Millsap. Denver’s point guard Jamal Murray could also be out for a couple of days, nursing a shin injury.

Nick Young will not only provide badly needed depth for Nuggets, but he will also give them a 3-point threat which is a valuable commodity in the modern NBA. He is known as an excellent marksman, having made 37.6 percent of attempted threes during his career, while also shooting .836 from the free throw line.

Young spent the last season with the Warriors, averaging 7.3 points and 1.6 rebounds in the 80 regular season games he played.
