Philadelphia Eagles won’t place a franchise tag on their quarterback Nick Foles allowing him to become a free agent in March. This was confirmed on Wednesday by Eagles’ general manager Howie Roseman at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis.

“We’re going to let Nick Foles be a free agent,” – said Roseman. “He deserves an opportunity to lead a team.”

Following the end of 2018 season, Foles opted out of his contract by paying Philadelphia Eagles $2 million. Many thought that Philadelphia will choose to franchise tag the 30-year-old in order to get back some assets for him via trade. Although Eagles choose the other path, they will still receive a compensatory draft pick when the player signs with another organization.

During his time in Philadelphia, Nick Foles established himself as a “QB super sub,” as he stepped in after starter Carson Wentz suffered an injury in both 2017 and 2018. In 2017, he led the Eagles to an improbable Super Bowl win, winning Super Bowl MVP honors as well, while helping the team to reach the playoffs in 2018 and get one postseason win. Despite all of this, Philadelphia decided to stick with Wentz as their quarterback of the future and let Foles walk away.

Nick Foles’ next destination remains unknown but it is believed that Jacksonville Jaguars are the most interested party. Denver Broncos were also in the mix, but they decided to go on a different route and trade for Baltimore Ravens’ Joe Flacco.

Everything that Nick Foles accomplished as a quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles still won’t be enough for him to take away the starting QB spot from Carson Wentz. During a press conference on Tuesday, Eagles’ head coach Doug Pederson decided to resolve the QB dilemma once and for all, saying that Wentz will remain the team’s quarterback of the future.

“Yes, Carson Wentz is the quarterback going forward,” – said Pederson. “And in Nick’s case, listen, we’d love to have everybody back throughout the roster, but as I’ve said many, many times, it’s not about one guy, it’s about the team, and we’re going to do what’s best for the team.”

Still, the Eagles wouldn’t have anything against keeping Foles, who is set to become a free agent this offseason, in Philadelphia.

“We would love to keep Nick Foles,” – said team’s executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman. “You talk about a guy we drafted here and we’ve grown incredibly close with. I don’t know a team that wouldn’t want to have Nick Foles on their roster. Certainly as we go into the substance of those discussions, we haven’t had them yet, but there’s no question we love having Nick Foles as an Eagle in Philadelphia and we’d love to keep him.”

However, it doesn’t seem likely that Nick Foles will remain with the Philadelphia Eagles and be satisfied with the backup spot. Many teams will be looking for a quarterback in 2019, including Jacksonville Jaguars and Miami Dolphins, so Foles will definitely have a market with his resume. Another thing that goes against the Eagles is the fact that the 29-year-old recently said that he wants to lead his own NFL team as a starting QB.

After Carson Wentz went down with a season-ending injury in Week 14 of 2017 season, Nick Foles took over the starting quarterback spot and led the team to an improbable Super Bowl LII win while managing to get the Super Bowl MVP honors in the process. He once again stepped in Week 15 of 2018 season, after Wentz went down again, and managed to defy the odds by getting Eagles to the playoffs when they had around 20 percent of chance to make it. Foles then took the team to a road wild-card win against the Chicago Bears and league’s best defense, while coming close to upset the New Orleans Saints. Still, that wasn’t enough for Philadelphia, and we will watch him in some other team’s uniform when the 2019 season kicks off.

Every Philadelphia Eagles’ player had a reason to be happy about the 16-15 win over Chicago Bears on Sunday, but quarterback Nick Foles might have been the happiest. Foles did not only manage to get his team closer to a Super Bowl once again, but he also netted $1 million.

Nick Foles and Philadelphia Eagles agreed to a restructured contract in the offseason which was loaded with incentives. One of them included $500K for a playing 33 percent of the snaps in a playoff game while the other would pay the 29-year-old $500K for a playoff win. Foles fulfilled both requirements on Sunday and substantially increased his bank account. If he manages to play 33 percent of the snaps against the New Orleans Saints in the NFC Divisional Round, and somehow gets another win, he’ll earn another million.

Most recently, Nick Foles missed out on a big incentive in Week 17, after he had to leave the game against the Washington Redskins due to bruised ribs injury. Foles ended up being just four snaps short of playing 33 percent of the Philadelphia Eagles’ snaps during the regular season. This would also earn him $1 million.

Nick Foles played a total of six games this season, completing 72.3 percent of his passes and throwing for 1,413 yards and seven touchdowns.

Super Bowl hero Nick Foles is set to earn $1 million in incentives should he lead the Philadelphia Eagles for a playoff spot after Sunday’s game.

The 29-year-old whose heroics helped Philadelphia win a super bowl early this year has a clause that warrants him a $1 million incentive every year the Eagles qualifies for the playoffs. There is another catch though. Foles has to appear in at least 33% of the team’s games.

As per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Foles has currently played 29% of the games and will hit 33% after Sunday’s game.

While reaching the 33 percent mark is easy, qualifying for the playoffs isn’t exactly easy. The Eagles must defeat the Washington Redskins on the road. They also rely on the Vikings defeating the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

Players with Similar Incentives

Baltimore Ravens safety Eric Weddle has a similar deal that qualifies him for a $1 million incentive should his team qualify for the playoffs. Like Foles, Weddle has one more qualification: he must qualify for the Pro Bowl. Luckily for him, he’s already made it to the Pro Bowl and the Ravens look likely to qualify after Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns.

Things looked grim for the Philadelphia Eagles and their playoff hopes before Sunday night’s game against the NFC West leaders Los Angeles Rams. Eagles were not only facing one of NFL’s best team’s away from home, but they were also set to start the game without their starting quarterback Carson Wentz, who was out with a back injury. Still, their backup QB Nick Foles stepped up and delivered once again.

Despite being 13.5 points underdogs before the game, Eagles ended up grabbing a 30-23 win. It was the second-biggest upset in 2018, and the biggest Philadelphia managed to pull off since 1995. While the entire team did their job, Foles might get the most credit.

Philadelphia Eagles found themselves in a similar situation last year when Wentz went down with an ACL injury. Nick Foles stepped in and orchestrated a spectacular playoff run which ended up with Eagles winning their first Super Bowl and him claiming the Super Bowl MVP award. It shouldn’t be surprising if the 29-year-old veteran manages to do something similar this year as well considering the fact that Carson Wentz’s recovery might take up to three months.

It was really emotional,” – said Foles. “You hate for your teammate to get hurt. I’ve said it before. I feel really bad for Carson. We’re tight in that QB room … You go through the human emotions. I don’t care what you’ve done in the past — it doesn’t matter once you step onto that field. It’s a new day. It was really just dealing with the emotions, prepping as hard as I could and then realizing I wasn’t alone. I have great teammates out there.

Foles completed 24 out of 31 passes for 270 yards against the Rams, but his impact stretched beyond the numbers. He managed to energize Philadelphia’s stale offense and inspire some big plays that proved to be game changers. The proof for this isn’t just the win, but also the fact that Sunday’s game was only the second one this season in which the Eagles managed to score 30 or more points.

We don’t get into a comparison game of who’s doing what, but right now, Nick is the quarterback, and he had a hell of a game that helped us win the game,” – said Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins. “We know that we have that in Nick. And so for us, we’ll go through the week, and who we’re going into the game with, that’s who we’re going to try and win with. And we have wholehearted belief in everybody that puts those pads on.

The Philadelphia Eagles will field backup Nick Foles when they host Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the end of this week. Super Bowl winner and the Franchise’s face Carson Wentz will remain on the sidelines as he heals from a torn ACL.

Although hard-fought, the Eagles were able to snatch an 18-12 victory over the Falcons last week with Foles as the starting quarterback. However, the backup player made no touchdown and managed a single pass to continue with his poor form this year.

As the Eagles head on for week 2, there are reports that Alshon Jeffery is back on training and could make an appearance on Sunday’s game. With their pass play limited to 18 yards, Philadelphia misses the receiver’s skills.

Without Jeffery, however, the Eagles remain with Zach Ertz, Mike Wallace and Nelson Agholor in the passing departments. Together with robust catchers out and offensive players, manager Doug Peterson is hopeful his team will bounce back to the form they had closing into the Super Bowl in February.

As for Wentz, unless he experiences a quick recovery, the Eagles are in no hurry to field him. The team is prioritizing his health and will look for alternatives until he is fully fit.

Philly fans had to brave on a cold, rainy, Thursday night for their first win of the season in a game Flacons almost won.

45 minutes of raining delayed the game. When it started, Falcon took control and by the third quarter, they were leading 6-3. Then, Philly initiated a familiar playing style—an offensive style that helped them with the Super Bowl earlier in the year.

As the third quarter was about to wrap up, Nick Foles passed the ball down to Corey Clement, who handed it to Nelson Agholor. The receiver quickly lobbed a pass to Foles again who set up a touchdown for Jay Ajayi. The Eagles went up 10-6 and defended their lead to the final whistle.

Philly’s unique play style was inspired by the Patriots.  It failed for them in the Super Bowl but helped the Eagles scraped a win that was hard-fought.

“It was the same play the Patriots used,” Lane Johnson said after the game. “The one that Tom Brady dropped.”

Coach Doug Pederson called the style “Philly Philly” and admitted it was in his team’s program.

“It was a play we had put in for this week. It was a play that was in our third-down menu. We were on the correct hash mark and it was the right time of the game.”

Agholor’s pass to Foles received a lot of reactions on social media afterward, perhaps because unlike Brady, Foles caught it.

After the Philadelphia Eagles’ starting quarterback Carson Wentz went down with an injury, the team wasn’t given much chance to make a deep playoff run, while the Super Bowl appearance seemed like a distant dream. The major reason for that was Wentz’s backup Nick Foles, who struggled with production after stepping up in as his replacement. But playoff time came and Foles delivered, performing above everyone’s expectations and ultimately winning the Eagles a Super Bowl, and being named Super Bowl MVP.

Philadelphia Eagles managed to win their first Super Bowl in history on February 4 and they are entitled to celebrate as much as they can. But after the euphoria wears off, the team’s front office has to make a big decision: whether to keep Nick Foles or trade him.

Trading Foles might seem tempting. His value was never higher and there are plenty of teams in NFL who need a starting quarterback. Cleveland Browns, Arizona Cardinals, Denver Broncos, and New York Jets to name a few. They would all be happy to give up a high draft pick to snatch Foles and make him their starting quarterback. All of them will call Eagles’ GM Howie Roseman and ask for a price. Roseman’s answer should be no, and here is why.

Carson Wentz will need nine months to rehabilitate at best but 12 months is a real option. This means he is about to miss the opening game of 2018 NFL season at best, but it is more likely that he will have to sit out at least until week five. Even when he comes back, there is no guarantee he will be at his MVP candidate form immediately. Keeping Foles will give Eagles a competent quarterback to carry the load until Wentz fully heals. They won’t have to rush Wentz to come back prematurely in order to keep winning. Foles proved that he can do that with this team by throwing for almost 1,000 yards in his three playoff games.

Eagles currently have the best quarterback situation in the league and should keep it that way. There is no need to change the winning combination. After Foles’ contract expires in 2019, it will be up to him to decide whether he wants to stay as a backup or he wishes to pursue a starting quarterback position. But the Eagles are in control now and if they want the best for their franchise, they’ll want Foles as the part of their team.
