We’ll have to wait the regular season in order to enjoy football again. According to multiple reports, the NFL decided to cancel all preseason games in 2020.

NFL previously discussed several options for the preseason amid the coronavirus pandemic, including playing two games compared to the usual four. However, with the health crisis getting worse in recent weeks, the league made a proposal to the NFL Players’ Association to have no preseason games.

The union accepted the offer on Tuesday and officially informed the players.

NFLPA previously pushed for this scenario, as they believe it will lower the safety and health risks of the players. Still, having no preseason games will bear some significant challenges.

Usually, preseason games were a great way for undrafted players to impress and make the roster. Veterans also had the chance to solidify their place on the depth chart or show enough to get a chance from another organization.

The preseason football also enables teams to shake off the summer rust and get them in the game shape ahead of the regular season.

Despite all of this, the decision to have no games ahead of the start of the regular season is probably the wisest thing. It will help the league avoid unnecessary risk, and it won’t be such bad news for fans, as they can’t attend.

The Oakland Raiders learned that Antonio Brown is mounting a new offensive against the NFL on Monday after learning that the league did not approve of the helmet that he wanted to wear for the 2019 season.

The Raiders’ newly-acquired star wide receiver has been in a battle with the league after learning that his long-time Schutt Air Advantage helmet is no longer approved by the league due to tightened safety standards.

After finding a newer version of his preferred helmet that was reportedly approved by the league, both the Raiders and Brown thought that the saga had come to its merciful end. It turns out, however, that this was not the case.

The league still believes that this Schutt Air Advantage helmet, despite being a newer version of the one that Brown previously wore, does not meet safety standards. Brown has filed a new complaint against the NFL as he looks to wear his preferred helmet.

It turns out, however, that the Raiders’ GM Mike Mayock is getting tired of the fight.

On Monday, Mayock stated that it is time for Brown to be “all in or all out” as the team prepares for the 2019 season. Brown has barely participated in Oakland’s training camp this summer as he is involved in a fight with the league over the helmet.

Brown might be passionate about his choice of headwear, but Raiders brass appears to be getting tired of the theatrics and simply wants him to start practicing.

Arizona Cardinals cornerback Robert Alford suffered an untimely injury in preseason camp this week and has the team scrambling to find help in an already-depleted secondary.

The veteran cornerback, who was signed to a 3-year, $22.5 million, contract by Arizona during the offseason, is expected to miss nearly two months with a fractured tibia. The injury reportedly happened during a full-contact practice at Cardinals camp in Glendale on Tuesday.

Alford was expected to be one of Arizona’s two starting cornerbacks going into the season alongside Patrick Peterson. The 30-year-old cornerback has never been a superstar, but he has ample NFL experience with the Atlanta Falcons and was expected to be the perfect complement to Peterson as the team’s second CB.

However, with Peterson out for the first six games of the season after a PED suspension and now Alford’s injury, the team finds itself critically short at a key position heading into the season.

The injury to Alford and Peterson’s suspension means that Arizona, coming off of a 2018 season in which they had the NFL’s worst record, will be forced to turn to rookie cornerbacks Byron Murphy and Tramaine Brock as the season opens.

Nothing has been easy for the Cardinals lately, and Alford’s unfortunate injury is just another example of the team’s hard luck.

The NFL preseason week 2 has started with the first five games taking place on Thursday night. As the new season is about to begin, the teams are testing all of their weapons before kick-off day, forming their new starting line-ups.

The most interesting match took place at State Farm Stadion in Glendale, Arizona where the improved Oakland Raiders squared off against Arizona Cardinals with a final result of 33-26 – without their star Wide Receiver Antonio Brown. Raiders starting quarterback Derek Carr was on the field for a short time, throwing 2/2 from the field for a total of 40 yards, before being benched for the second QB Nathan Peterman (8/8 from the field for 41 yard) and later their third-string QB Mike Glennon, finishing the game with 14/11 from the field for 175 yards.

On the losing side, Kyler Murray, the new star on the Cardinals roster, went 8/3 from the field for just 12 yards after being replaced later on with the rest of the QB’s on the roster, with Brett Hundley making the most of it by going 15/10 from the field for a total of 139 yards.

Results from other matches:

Eagles 24-10 Jaguars

Jets 22-10 Falcons

Packers 13-26 Ravens

Bengals 23-13 Redskins

Monday night saw a clash between New York Giants and Cleveland Browns, which ended in 10-6 win over the Browns. The Giants didn’t only lose the game, but also faced with a bigger problem when their wideout and top offensive weapon Odell Beckham Jr. took a hard hit in the knee from Browns corner Briean Boddy-Calhoun, also banging his head onto the pitch in the process. After picking himself up, Beckham Jr. threw away the helmet and walked to the locker room with a painful look on his face. Television cameras even caught Beckham Jr. rocking back and forth on his knees in the tunnel and trying to ease the pain.

This obviously caused a lot of concerns for the Giants, who are not in the position to lose their most important offensive player. After being cleared for the concussion, X-ray results also came back negative. The official Giants statement is that Odell Beckham Jr. “sustained a sprained ankle” and “will undergo further examination“. This most certainly means he will be out for the rest of preseason but should be back until the opening game of the regular season against the Dallas Cowboys on September 10th. In a post-match interview, when asked about the possibility of him being ready for that game, he said “I don’t know, man. I am pretty concerned, but I think I will be alright.

Odell Beckham Jr. wasn’t the only wide receiver who got hurt in the game. Tavarres King hurt his ankle again, while Brandon Marshall needed to get X-rays on his shoulder. The game against Cleveland Browns saw New York Giants suffering their second defeat in the preseason. Last season saw the Giants finishing with a record of 11-5, having a 10 win season for the first time since 2010. Their playoff run ended in a disappointing defeat against Green Bay Packers, the final result being 38–13 for Packers.
