Star running back Melvin Gordon’s time with the Chargers is reportedly coming to an end after the player’s agent asked for a trade away from Los Angeles.

Gordon and the Chargers have been involved in a contract dispute throughout this offseason. The running back is in the last season of his contract with the franchise and had reportedly been looking for a raise.

With Chargers GM Tom Telesco reportedly unwilling to give Gordon the raise and extension that he’s after, Gordon and his agent Damarius Bilbo have decided that it’s better to simply look for another team.

It still remains to be seen if Telesco and the Chargers are willing and able to swing a deal for the two-time Pro Bowler.

Gordon, a first-round draft pick by the then San Diego Chargers in 2015, has excelled as one of the league’s top running backs since debuting in the NFL. He was named to the AFC Pro Bowl roster in 2016 and last season. A pass-catching threat out of the backfield, Gordon rushed for 885 yards and caught 50 balls for 490 yards, accumulating 14 total touchdowns for the Chargers last season.

Perhaps there is still time for the Chargers and Gordon to mend their broken relationship and keep the unhappy running back in LA, but it seems less and less likely with every day that passes.

Preseason camp has gotten off to a pretty rotten start for the Cincinnati Bengals. The AFC North squad found out over the weekend that star receiver AJ Green will miss at least the first part of the season after fracturing an ankle during training camp.

After undergoing surgery on Tuesday to repair a severely sprained ankle which was suffered on the team’s first day of training camp, it was revealed that surgeons found more damage than originally expected.

The Bengals still haven’t announced exactly how much time Green is expected to miss after undergoing surgery on his injured ankle, but reports state that he’ll probably miss the first few games of the year.

The bad news is rough for Cincinnati, which goes into the season as a heavy underdog in the tough AFC North division. The seven-time Pro Bowler is their best wide receiver and quarterback Andy Dalton’s top pass-catching option.

Green has, fairly or unfairly, gained a reputation as being somewhat injury-prone after missing time in 3 of the past 4 seasons. He finished 2018 with only 694 receiving yards after missing 7 games with a toe injury.

The Tennessee Titans have decided to make Kevin Byard the highest-paid safety in the history of the NFL after agreeing to a five-year contract extension potentially worth $70.5 million on Wednesday.

Byard’s contract includes $31 million in guaranteed money and breaks the record set for a contract for safety which was previously shared by the Redskins’ Landon Collins.

It has been an incredible rise to the top by Byard, an unheralded prospect who played college football at Middle Tennessee State. He wasn’t invited to the NFL Combine and was drafted in the third round by the Tennessee Titans, a franchise he played college ball only 45 minutes away from.

Byard immediately became an important presence for Tennessee’s defense in 2016, his rookie season, playing in all 16 games and starting 7.

He really broke out, however, in 2017, when he was named a First-Team All-Pro selection after leading the Titans’ defense into the playoffs with 87 total tackles and 8 interceptions.

2018 wasn’t quite as spectacular for the 25-year-old strong safety, as his interception total dropped to 4 in a disappointing season for Tennessee. The franchise’s confidence in him, however, has never wavered.

Now, Byard will look to lead the Titans back to playoff contention in 2019 with a healthy new contract in hand.

When the Cincinnati Bengals selected offensive tackle Jonah Williams with the 11th overall pick in April, they certainly didn’t expect that he wouldn’t make his debut with the team until 2020.

Unfortunately, their first-round draft pick out of the University of Alabama is expected to miss the entirety of the 2019 NFL season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder this week.

Williams suffered the injury while participating in the team’s off-season workouts. Head coach Zac Taylor said that the 21-year-old was just “dinged up” after he missed the end of the team’s workouts, but it turns out that the injury was more serious than was originally thought.

The news is especially difficult for Cincinnati and their new head coach considering that Williams was penciled in to become the team’s starting left tackle immediately in the 2019 season due to a fantastic pedigree that he takes into the league.

Williams was named a unanimous first-team All American at his position in 2018 after an excellent season for the Alabama Crimson Tide. He was expected to step in immediately and become a building block of Cincinnati’s offensive line, a unit that struggled to find consistency in the 2018 season.

It turns out that Williams’ addition to the offensive line will have to wait, and that Cincinnati won’t get a glimpse of him in action until next season.

The New England Patriots made another move on Thursday as they look to replace the big void left by retiring tight end Rob Gronkowski.

The Patriots added former Detroit Lions tight end Michael Roberts in a trade on Thursday, acquiring in exchange for a conditional selection in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Roberts spent the first two seasons of his career with the Lions, who selected him in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. While he has always flashed potential, he was never able to capitalize on his potential in Detroit.

The 6’6″ pass catcher only recorded 13 receptions for 146 yards and 3 touchdowns in two seasons with the Lions. However, it’s worth noting that he missed significant time with injury in 2018 after a shoulder ailment stopped him from playing for much of the season.

Roberts is seen by the Patriots as a “project,” and they intend to work with him in order to develop him into a threat for their offense, hoping that he could help replace the production left behind by Gronkowski.

They’ll do it at a minuscule cost, making the move a no-brainer on their part.

Roberts now must look to capitalize on his large frame and pass-catching ability in order to establish himself as one of the Patriots’ primary options on offense.

The New Orleans Saints and superstar defensive end Cameron Jordan reportedly agreed to a 3-year extension on Wednesday. ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the news on Tuesday evening.

Jordan, a four-time Pro Bowler during his first eight seasons with the NFC South squad, was already under contract with New Orleans through the 2020 season. Now, he will add another big-money deal and tie his future with his current team through 2023.

It’s not surprising that Jordan and the Saints want to continue down the same path together considering both parties’ success during their tenure together.

The Saints have made the playoffs in 4 of Jordan’s 8 seasons, and are the back-to-back NFC South champions. Jordan has been one of their defense’s most important pieces in recent years due to his elite pass-rushing skills and dominance of the line.

Jordan’s list of career accomplishments is long. In addition to his four Pro Bowl nods, he’s also been named a first-team All-Pro selection in 2017 and a second-team All-Pro last season.

He has recorded 410 tackles and 71.5 sacks since making his debut with New Orleans in 2011. He finished 2018 with 35 tackles and 12 sacks, the second-most productive season of his career.

Even more impressively, Jordan has not missed a single game going back to his NFL debut. The 29-year-old has played in all of the Saints’ games, both playoff and regular season, dating back to his rookie year.

The Saints will hope that he can provide the same level of production and consistency through 2023 under his new deal.

The Jacksonville Jaguars added another wide receiver to a position group that is full of potential, but with few sure things.

Jacksonville added veteran wideout Terrelle Pryor to their roster after signing him to a one-year deal on Monday.

Pryor, who was drafted as a quarterback out of Ohio State by the Raiders in the 2011 NFL Draft, has spent the majority of his pro career as a wide receiver.

The 29-year-old played last season with the Buffalo Bills and the New York Jets. He caught only 16 passes for 252 yards and 2 touchdowns in a disappointing 2018 campaign.

The NFL veteran had his best season after making the transition to receiver in the 2016 season for the Cleveland Browns. This year, he broke the thousand-yard mark with 1,007 receiving yard sale and 7 touchdowns.

He has thus far been unable to replicate this success.

Jacksonville is willing, however, to give the wideout a short-term deal to see if he can regain the magic that he found in 2016.

Specific terms of the deal are yet to be announced.

The Redskins were devastated on Monday after getting word that linebacker Reuben Foster had torn his ACL and will miss the 2019 season.

Foster suffered the injury while participating in voluntary offseason workouts with his teammates. During a non-contact drill, Foster fell to the ground clutching his knee. After being on the ground in pain for several minutes, he was carted off of the practice field.

The injury is a heart-breaker for Washington, which claimed Foster off of waivers last November after the talented defender was released by the San Francisco 49ers.

Foster was named an All-Rookie selection in his first year as a pro in 2017 after an impressive debut despite only playing in 10 games.

2018 was disappointing for the 49ers, who thought that he would be a long-term standout for their defense. After disciplinary issues and a failed drug test, the team released him in November.

The Redskins claimed him on waivers shortly thereafter, hoping to take advantage of the linebacker’s immense talent. Before even stepping on the field for the Skins, he appears to be set to miss an entire season due to his ACL injury.

After offseason disagreement, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have decided to call it quits with legendary defensive tackle Gerald McCoy.

The Bucs announced on Monday that they had released McCoy, who spent the past nine seasons as the anchor of Tampa’s defense.

Tampa Bay will save $39 million by releasing McCoy, who had three more years left on his contract. With McCoy at 31 years old, the Bucs and new head coach Bruce Arians decided to cut their ties with a franchise legend due to a possible impending decline.

The release comes on the heels of Arians’ controversial comments about McCoy after his hiring. The new coach said about McCoy that, “He’s not as disruptive as he was four years ago, but he’s still a good player.”

After the offseason mess and Tampa’s commitment to retooling, it seemed best for both parties to move on.

Adam Gase took on the task as interim GM of the New York Jets with fervor, making a move almost immediately after taking over the job this week.

Gase decided to trade linebacker Darron Lee to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, reported Yahoo! News on Wednesday.

Lee, the 20th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, disappointed many in the Jets organization after not living up to the expectations placed on him as a first-round pick.

The writing was on the wall for the former Ohio State Buckeye after the Jets declined to pick up their option for the 2019 season on Lee’s contract earlier this month.

The undersized linebacker failed to make much of an impact in three seasons in the Big Apple despite starting a total of 36 games. He only recorded 4 sacks in three seasons with the team and struggled mightily in pass coverage.

To add insult to injury, Lee was suspended for 4 games at the end of last season due to failing a PED test.

Lee will look to give his career a fresh start in Kansas City, joining a franchise with a strong defense and that has won the AFC West for the past three seasons.
