Anfield was once again the host to a nerve-wracking Premier League soccer match this weekend between the leaders of the Premier League chart – Liverpool facing Newcastle. The match didn’t start well for Liverpool as they conceded a goal early on, but they managed to turn the tide and sustain a lead until the end of the match. 

The game started with an aggressive play from both sides and Newcastle’s Jetro Willems managed to shock the stadium scoring the first goal of the match early in the 7^th minute. This caused an even fiercer play from Liverpool that culminated with the first goal against Newcastle scored by Sadio Mane in the 28^th minute of the match.  

Later in the first half, Sadio Mane reinforced his role as the man of the match scoring the second goal in the 40^th minute, bringing Liverpool to the victory. The second halftime saw a very equalized play between the two teams, but didn’t see any goals scored and the match ended with a final score of 2-1.  

This was Liverpool’s 14^th victory in a row which is one of the longest runs in English soccer history.

As the summer transfer season progresses, clubs all around the world reinforce their lines with fresh blood. The latest news comes from England where Newcastle United has set a club record after signing the young Joelinton from the German club Hoffenheim FC.  

The English Premier League club had officially signed the 22-year-old Brazilian striker for a stunning fee of more than $49 million on a contract lasting for six years. The previous record was held by Miguel Almiron whose acquirement earlier this year cost the English club $24.8 million.  

The young player has had a stunning career so far, proving to be one of the rising stars in European football. He made 34 appearances during his stay with the Bundesliga club, managing to score 11 goals. Joelinton began his career playing for the Brazilian club Sport Recife from where he was acquired by Hoffenheim back in 2015.  

After the conclusion of the deal, Joelinton said he was really happy to be in the club. He also added that he knew that a large investment was being made in him and there is huge responsibility coming with that.

DeAndre Yedlin was added to the United States Men’s national team roster for upcoming friendly internationals against Ireland and France.

The Newcastle United defender was added to the squad along with midfielder Tyler Adams and striker Bobby Wood while Christian Pulisic, as well as Walker Zimmerman, Alex Bono, Ethan Hovarth, Matt Olosunde, Alejandro Guido and Lynden Gooch were all dropped, as coach Dave Sarachan looks to experiment with different combinations and players.

The US are currently trying different styles and combinations as they prepare for the 2022 World Cup cycle. They suffered heartbreak late last year as they failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since the 1986 event.

The Americans first play against Ireland in Dublin on Saturday. The Irish also did not qualify for the World Cup.

They then face a tough test on June 9th as they play against France. France is one of the pre-tournament favorites to win the World Cup in Russia and their players will be looking to impress during the game.
