Should the Rangers make the Eastern Conference finals, then the 2023 second-round pick will become a first-rounder.

In addition to Kane, the Rangers will receive minor league defenseman, Cooper Zech, while minor league defenseman Andy Welinski will head to Chicago.

New York had to overcome several hurdles in order to secure Kane’s signature, which included freeing up cap space in order to fit Kane’s contract. By 5 p.m. ET, the Rangers were able to free up the required cap space, thereby enabling themselves to proceed with the trade.

Following Kane’s trade, Chicago will retain 50% of Kane’s $10.5 million contract, while the Arizona Coyotes are already signed on to take 50% of that proportion. This means that just $2.625 million will be included in the Rangers’ cap.

“We definitely took that into consideration. There probably wasn’t another situation where we would have pushed the limits,” Rangers general manager Chris Drury admitted.

The Chicago Blackhawks seem to have made peace with losing the franchise legend Patrick Kane. According to multiple reports, the Blackhawks are putting the finishing touches on a trade that will see Kane move to the New York Rangers.

The trade with the Rangers isn’t an easy one as it requires the New York team to make some significant salary cap-clearing moves as well as the inclusion of a third team. However, it is Kane’s preferred destination, meaning the parties are committed to finding a way to make it work.

Kane had a lukewarm start to the 2022-23 NHL campaign, but his form has recently picked up, with seven goals and three assists in the last five games. He has 16 goals and 29 assists so far in the season.

Expecting his future to be resolved in the coming days, Kane decided to stay away from the team. While the Blackhawks are entering the second game of their four-game road trip but Kane has already returned to Chicago. The news was confirmed by both the team’s head coach Luke Richardson and Kane’s agent Pat Brisson.

“Based on the current status of Patrick’s situation, we collectively felt it was more appropriate to have him not play during this period of reflection,” Brisson told reporters on Saturday.

Patrick Kane spent all of his 15 and a half seasons in the NHL with the Blackhawks. During that time, he helped the franchise win three Stanley Cups while adding numerous individual accolades, including nine All-Star nods and Hart Memorial Trophy as NHL’s MVP in 2016.

It appears that forward Vitali Kravtsov hasn’t played his last game with the New York Rangers after all. The Rangers just announced that Kravtsov signed a one-year extension with the franchise that keeps him under contract for the 2022-23 NHL season.

The Rangers didn’t disclose the financial terms of the agreement, although reports say that Kravtsov is set to earn $875,000 next season.

The news comes as a bit of a surprise, considering that Kravtsov previously wanted to leave the franchise. The 22-year-old missed out on the opening night roster last season and then rejected the AHL assignment before making a trade request. The Rangers granted his wish but ended up loaning him to KHL’s Traktor Chelyabinsk after no move materialized.

Kravtsov went on to have a solid campaign with Traktor, scoring six goals and dishing seven assists for a total of 13 points in 19 games. He also added 10 points (seven goals and three assists) during the postseason.

The NY Rangers had high hopes for Vitali Kravtsov when they selected him with the ninth pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. However, Kravtsov’s NHL career never took off as the team hoped. He only managed to play 20 games as a Ranger so far and has only four points on his NHL resume.

The New York Rangers have locked their talented defenseman Adam Fox to a new seven-year extension. The deal, reportedly worth $66.5 million, will keep the reigning Norris Trophy winner with the franchise through the 2028-29 NHL season.

Fox is currently in the last year of his entry-level deal that pays him $925K in 2021-22. In nine games he played this season, the 23-year-old contributed two goals and seven assists for a total of nine points.

“I wanted to be a New York Ranger, and now that I’m here—and here for a long time—it’s a huge honor for me. There’s no place I’d rather be,” Fox said via NHL.com after the extension was made official.

Adam Fox was selected 66th overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft by the Calgary Flames but ended up having a rocky road to NHL. The Flames traded him to the Carolina Hurricanes in 2018, and he ended up being moved again to the Ranger one year later. It was only in New York that he received a chance to make his debut in the league during the 2019-20 season.

Believing in Fox paid off for the Rangers as he immediately made a big impact in his rookie year with 42 points. He followed that up with a 47-point campaign last season that saw him being recognized as the league’s best defenseman and picking up First All-Star Team selection.

“In just over two seasons, Adam has consistently shown why he is a cornerstone for our organization and one of the best players in the NHL,” Rangers general manager Chris Drury said. “It has been a privilege for us, and our fans, to watch Adam showcase his ability on a nightly basis, and we are glad to have that opportunity for seven more years.”

Mika Zibanejad has agreed to an eight-year contract worth $68 million with the New York Rangers, it was reported late on Sunday. The 28-year-old player will have an $8.5 million salary cap.

Since joining the Rangers from the Ottawa Senators in 2016, Zibanejad has scored 283 points in 232 regular-season games. Last season, the Swedish center became a point-per-game player, scoring 24 goals and 26 assists in 50 appearances.

New York Rangers general manager Chris Drury released the following statement with regards to the deal: “Since joining the team in 2016, Mika has emerged as one of the premier players in the NHL. In addition to being a great player on the ice, Mika is an exemplary person off of the ice. We are fortunate to have him as part of our Rangers organization and are excited that he will continue his career in New York.”

In addition to securing the services of Zibanejad for the next eight seasons, the Rangers have also struck deals with forwards Artemi Panarin, Chris Kreider, and Barclay Goodrow, each of whom has committed five years or more to the franchise. It is widely believed that the Rangers’ next contract renewal target will be Norris Trophy-winning defenseman Adam Fox. The 23-year-old is currently serving the final year of his existing deal.

Henrik Lundqvist is putting an end to his storied NHL career. The legendary goalie, who played 15 seasons with the New York Rangers, officially announced his retirement in a statement posted on Instagram on Friday.

Lundqvist left New York ahead of the 2020-21 NHL season and signed a one-year deal with the Washington Capitals. However, he never suited up for the franchise due to a heart condition that required surgery.

Lundqvist planned to return this upcoming season but experienced several setbacks while trying to practice. Eventually, after realizing that he would have to spend additional time on the sidelines before returning to form, the 39-year-old player made a tough decision to call it quits.

“It’s all still fresh. I decided only a few days ago. But I am at peace,” he told the New York Post after the news was announced. “I look back at my career, and all I have is gratitude and pride. I am just so grateful.”

Henrik Lundqvist played a total of 887 games in the NHL, all with the Rangers. He posted a 459-310-96 record with a .918 save percentage, 2.43 goals-against average, and 64 shutouts. Lundqvist was selected to the NHL All-Star Team two times while also making five All-Star Game appearances.

Shortly after the news about Lundqvist’s retirement became official, the Rangers announced they would retire his number 30 during the 2021-22 season.

The New York Rangers parted ways with head coach David Quinn, the franchise announced on Wednesday. Quinn’s exit follows the team’s decision to move on from general manager Jeff Gorton and team president John Davidson last week.

According to the Rangers’ official announcement, the majority of assisting staff is also gone. Benoit Allaire, the goalkeeping assistant, is believed to be the only one who managed to keep his job.

“I would like to thank David Quinn, David Oliver, Jacques Martin, and Greg Brown for all of their efforts and dedication to the Rangers,” said the team’s new general manager Chris Drury.

Several names have been mentioned as candidates for the position, including Kris Knoblauch, head coach of their AHL affiliate Hartford Wolf Pack, ex-Vegas Golden Knights head coach Gerard Gallant, and Rick Tocchet, who recently left the Arizona Coyotes.

In case the Rangers want someone with a Stanley Cup pedigree, John Tortorella is an intriguing candidate. Tortorella, whose contract with the Blue Jackets expired earlier this month, already coached the Rangers between 2009 and 2013 and led the franchise to four postseason appearances.

In 2018, the Rangers announced they are starting a full-on rebuild and hired David Quinn as their head coach shortly after. Quinn, who previously worked at Boston University, was tasked with developing a young roster and eventually elevating the franchise to a contention status once again.

Quinn arguably managed to do the first one but seemed far away from accomplishing the second task. The Rangers often looked unconvincing on the ice and struggled to have an identity and show progress as a unit.

Quinn leaves New York with a 96-87-25 record.

Veteran goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, who just joined the Washington Capitals a couple of months ago, has announced that he will not suit up for the team this year due to a heart condition.

The 38-year-old Swede played his entire NHL career—15 years—with the New York Rangers, and is considered to be one of the greatest goaltenders in the history of the franchise.

However, the Rangers decided to move on from the veteran in October and bought out the remainder of his contract, after which Lundqvist signed a one-year contract to play with the Capitals.

Lundqvist addressed fans on social media, saying that a decision was made to not play this year after “many weeks of tests and conversations with specialists around the country.”

It’s hard to say whether this might be the end of Lundqvist’s career, considering that doctors have told him that playing with this existing heart condition, at this time, poses a very serious risk to his health.

Regardless of Lundqvist’s condition, the Capitals were expected to start Ilya Samsonov in the goal this year, who had an excellent rookie year in 2019-2020. Lundqvist was expected to play a mentoring role this year for the young goaltender and to provide insurance in the case of injury.

The New York Rangers have secured the first pick in the 2020 NHL draft by winning the draft lottery on Monday.

That means that they will most likely be welcoming Alexis Lafreniere to the team, who is the consensus No. 1 pick. This bodes very well for a Rangers team that began a rebuild in 2018 and has had a surprising amount of success in speeding up the process by making a string of very smart roster moves.

New York had the second pick in the 2019 draft and selected lauded Finnish winger Kaapo Kakko. After that, they picked up star free agent Artemi Panarin, who had a brilliant season this year and was one of the finalists in the run for league MVP.

Asked about the proposition of playing in New York, Lafreniere seems to be completely on board, stating that the Rangers are “an unreal team” and that he is “really happy” that they have the first pick.

Lafreniere is an 18-year-old winger from Quebec. He’s 6-foot-1 and he led the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League this year with 112 points in 52 games before the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lafreniere and Pittsburg Penguins star captain Sidney Crosby are the only two players in history to win the QMJHL MVP awards in back-to-back seasons.

New York Rangers announced on Wednesday that they have hired Boston University’s David Quinn as their next coach. Quinn will be officially presented at the introductory news conference on Thursday. He will replace Alain Vigneault, who was fired following the end of 2017-18 regular season after he failed to reach the playoffs.

In a coaching career that has spanned over two decades at the collegiate, pro, and international level, David has helped his teams achieve success while simultaneously teaching the game and helping his players develop on and off the ice,” – general manager Jeff Gorton said. “He is the ideal choice to bring our loyal and passionate fans the winning hockey they deserve.

This will mark a return to the franchise for David Quinn, who played for Rangers’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Rangers, during his professional playing career. After retiring as a player, Quinn entered coaching and has served as an assistant for several teams including Team USA on multiple occasions. He joined Boston University in 2013 and has lead the team to a national title in 2015, and three further NCAA tournament appearances.

David brings a diverse and successful coaching résumé that includes extensive work in developing young talent,” – said Rangers owner James Dolan. “I am confident he is an excellent fit for our team, and know he will work tirelessly with [team president Glen Sather], Jeff and our entire organization to execute our plan to build the next Rangers Stanley Cup-contending team.

New York Rangers are just the third NHL team to hire a coach straight out of college in more than 30 years. Dallas Stars hired University of Denver’s Jim Montgomery in early May while Philadelphia Flyers hired Dave Hakstol from North Dakota in 2015.

The New York Rangers have locked their talented defenseman Adam Fox to a new seven-year extension. The deal, reportedly worth $66.5 million, will keep the reigning Norris Trophy winner with the franchise through the 2028-29 NHL season.
