New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski has put an end to the speculations that he will retire this season. The 28-year-old reportedly met with Patriots’ coach Bill Belichick on Tuesday and confirmed he will return to the team for 2018 season.

It was very positive, and Rob is committed,” – player’s agent Drew Rosenhaus told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Gronkowski also confirmed his decision via Instagram post.

I met with coach today and informed him I will be back for the 2018 season with the Pats.” – Gronk wrote. “I have been working out, staying in shape and feel great. Looking forward to another championship run.

Rob Gronkowski teased his retirement after Super Bowl LII loss against the Philadelphia Eagles, saying that he will take some time and think about his future in the offseason.

I don’t know how you heard that, but I mean, I’m definitely going to look at my future, for sure,” – said Gronkowski at the time. “I’m going to sit down in the next couple of weeks and

see where I’m at.
One of the reasons Gronk considered retirement at such a young age were concerns about his health. During his professional career, he had three back surgeries as well as procedures on his knee and forearm. His last back surgery came in 2016 when he was limited to playing only eight games in the season. In 2017 regular season he missed two games, one due to a thigh injury and one because of suspension, but still managed to lead the Patriots with 69receptions, which counted for 1,084 yards and eight touchdowns.

During his time with the New England Patriots, Rob Gronkowski won two Super Bowls (XLIX, LI), earned five First-team All-Pro honors and five Pro Bowl selections. He also received NFL Comeback Player of the Year award in 2014 and was NFL receiving touchdowns leader in 2011.

While his New England Patriots were getting beaten by Nick Foles and Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII, cornerback Malcolm Butler was unable to help his team. Although it was expected that he will be an important part of the Patriots defense in the game, Butler ended up sitting out the entire game on the bench. The 28-year-old ended up leaving the Patriots in the free agency and joined the Tennessee Titans.

Now, two months later, Butler spoke with Sports Illustrated and decided to share how he felt about not taking a single defensive snap in the most important football game of the year.

I just wanted to go up to [Bill] Belichick or [defensive coordinator] Matt Patricia and say, ‘This is how we’re going to end this?‘” – Butler shared. “I grew up in the Patriots system. I’m a well-mannered guy. I respect my authority. I just couldn’t ask them for something they didn’t want to do. I was close to going up there and saying what I wanted to say to Matt or Belichick, but I just stayed in my lane and did my job. I really wanted to go ask them, but I didn’t.

After the Super Bowl LII, Butler told reporters that the Patriots would have won the game if he was playing. He still thinks that way.

Would we have won if I played? Probably, maybe, I’m not sure.” – he said. “I would say we were short about one or two plays. I’ve seen a couple plays out there I could have made. It was just a coaching decision; it didn’t work out good for me, him or the New England Patriots organization.

Malcolm Butler joined the Patriots in 2014 and won two Super Bowls with the franchise. After his contract expired, he signed a five-year, $61 million deal with the Titans.
