The Tampa Bay Buccaneers continue having a busy offseason that looks to position them for another Super Bowl run in 2021. According to multiple reports, the Bucs agreed to a new contract extension with left tackle Donovan Smith while also re-signing free-agent defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.

Smith received a two-year, $31.8 million contract extension that will now keep him with the organization through 2023. The deal comes with $30 million in guarantees for the player while the Bucs get a significant cap-relief.

Instead of counting $14.25 million against the cap next season, Smith will now only have a $3.6 million cap hit. This gives Tampa Bay more than $10 million to use for other moves.

Shortly after finalizing Smith’s extension, the Buccaneers worked out a new contract for Suh. The five-time Pro Bowler reportedly agreed to a one-year deal that will pay him $10 million. The agreement should contain several voidable years for salary-cap purposes.

Suh was solid for the Buccaneers in 2020, totaling 6.0 sacks in 16 starts. He also added 44 tackles, 19 QB hits, and one forced fumble.

With this tempo, Tampa Bay will manage to keep their championship core almost intact. They previously franchise-tagged wideout Chris Godwin while signing several players to new deals, including linebacker Shaq Barrett and tight end Rob Gronkowski to new deals.

The Bucs are now expected to turn their focus to wide receiver Antonio Brown and running back Leonard Fournette. The duo played a big role in the postseason for Tampa Bay, and it isn’t a secret that the organization wants them back.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers believe they can repeat as Super Bowl champions in 2021, and defensive end Ndamukong Suh wants to be part of that ride.

In a recent chat with Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, Suh, who is a free agent in March, said that his plan for the future is being in Tampa Bay in 2021.

“My goal is to come back and have an opportunity to go win another championship,” said Suh while hinting that Bucs general manager Jason Licht and head coach Bruce Arians feel the same way about this.

Suh added that he believes he still has much football left in him and doesn’t think about retirement.

“And I honestly believe I have a lot of elite, great talent left in me to play,” he continued. “I’m not ready to hang them up yet.”

In order to be back with the Bucs, Suh will most likely have to take a pay cut from his $8 million salary in 2020. Tampa Bay will only have 31 players under contract in March and have a number of other key players they need to keep, including Pro Bowl linebacker Shaq Barrett, wideout Chris Godwin, and tight end Rob Gronkowski.

Suh had a solid campaign in 2020, totaling six sacks, 44 tackles, and 19 QB hits in the regular season. He was also productive in the postseason, having 1.5 sacks and two tackles in the Super Bowl win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Veteran defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh is staying put. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the 33-year-old free agent opted to resign with Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Suh reportedly had several big offers from a number of NFL teams, including San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens, but Bucs managed to keep him in Tampa. The five-times Pro Bowler inked a one-year, $8 million deal.

Having Suh in 2020 was one of the offseason priorities for Bucs’ head coach Bruce Arians, who recently said that he would like to roll with the same defense moving forward.

“I wanted the entire defense, if we could, to stay together,” said Arians on Wednesday. “They played so well together. Each piece of the puzzle knew each other. Suh was a big, big part of it. Not as much in the sack game as much as his interior pressure and the great job he did last year against the run.”

While failing to post head-turning numbers last season, managing 41 tackles and 2.5 sacks, Ndamukong Suh was still an integral part of Tampa Bay’s defense. He managed to impact the game in various ways while often being double-teamed by opponents. This, in return, enabled other Bucs’ defensive linemen to have more space to wreak havoc. The team finished the season seventh in sacks while allowing fewest rushing yards per game.

Prior to signing with Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2018, Suh also played with Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins, and Los Angeles Rams. Besides five Pro Bowl appearances, he also has three First-Team All-Pro and two Second-Team All-Pro honors.

Defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh recently decided to ink a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, joining the fourth team in his NFL career. The interesting thing about Suh’s decision is that he didn’t even work for the team or visited the Bucs before signing a contract.

Still, this fact didn’t affect Suh’s excitement about his new team as he already had chats with Buccaneers’ coach Bruce Arians and defensive coordinator Todd Bowles. The duo made a convincing pitch about Tampa Bay’s future and had five-times Pro Bowler wishing to play a big part in the project and help the team to get “over the top.”

“I’m very excited,”- said Suh according to NFL Network. “I actually had the opportunity to talk very deeply with (defensive coordinator) Todd Bowles as well as Bruce Arians, two elite coaches that I’ve had great interactions with in years past. I like being part of things you can build and be able to put them over the top. Hopefully my talent, as well as all the other guys — former Nebraskans, Lavonte David — we can play together and change the game there, and get us to a winning situation.”

Ndamukong Suh spent the 2018 NFL season with the Los Angeles Rams, contributing with 59 tackles and 4.5 sacks, while helping the team to reach the Super Bowl. Rams decided against resigning Suh after the end of the season, as they couldn’t fulfill the 32-year-old’s financial requests.

Suh, who was the second overall pick in 2010, also had stints with Detroit Lions and Miami Dolphins.
