Long rumored to be going pro after his freshman season at the University of Kentucky, guard Tyrese Maxey has officially announced that he will be declaring for this summer’s NBA Draft.

Maxey, a 6’3″ guard and a consensus top fifteen prospect for this summer’s draft, announced his decision in a post on social media that thanked Kentucky’s “Big Blue Nation” for its support during his partial season at the school.

He ended his announcement with words of gratitude for his time in Kentucky, stating, “Thank you to the Big Blue Nation, my coaches, teammates, and everyone who has played a part in making this an incredible year. I will always bleed blue!”

Maxey, a native of Texas, turned 19 last November. He is expected to be a lottery pick in the draft thanks largely to his play-making ability and athleticism, and has also shown flashes of scoring brilliance.

The freshman wowed the basketball world with a 26 point performance in a Kentucky’s season-opening win over then number #1 Michigan State at Madison Square Garden.

He finished the season with an average of 14 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game for the Wildcats.

Expect Maxey to not last long on the draft board before being selected in this summer’s draft.

The Memphis Grizzlies might’ve just missed out on the first selection in next month’s NBA Draft, but they look set to acquire an elite talent of their own with their pick, the second in this year’s order.

Multiple sources have reported that Memphis plans to draft Murray State point guard Ja Morant with the 2nd overall pick in next month’s draft.

Morant, a 19-year-old who was lightly recruited coming out of high school, developed into a superstar in his sophomore season at the Ohio Valley Conference school.

The 6’3″ guard was the Racers’ star player and led his team to the OVC Title as well as a 12 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Morant declared for the draft after an outstanding sophomore season in which he became the first player in NCAA history to average 20 points and 10 assists per game in a single season.

The South Carolina native averaged 24.5 points, 10.0 assists, 5.7 assists, and 1.8 steals per game, all while shooting 50% from the field. He has the potential to become an elite point guard in the league due to his offensive skill set and tenacity.

The draft will take place on June 20th in Brooklyn, New York.

Despite only having a 6.6% chance to do so, the New Orleans Pelicans won the NBA Draft Lottery on Tuesday night and acquired the right to make the first pick on June 20.

The draft lottery, which took place in Chicago, gave the New York Knicks, the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Phoenix Suns the highest odds to snatch the top pick, at 14%.

However, the Pelicans, who finished the 2018-19 season with the 7th-worst record, got the pick and the right to draft Duke phenom Zion Williamson with the first selection of the night.

The Knicks were long seen as an ideal destination for Williamson, who would relish the opportunity to groom a home-grown superstar that would be a media sensation in the country’s largest market, ended up with the third pick instead.

The Memphis Grizzlies have the second overall pick despite having slim odds to rise so far.

The Pelicans, as previously mentioned, will almost certainly draft Williamson with the first pick. The young phenom is considered one of the most attractive basketball prospects in a long time due to his explosive athleticism and scoring ability.

The draft will be held on June 20th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The 6’8” forward Zach Smith has been picked up by the Atlanta Hawks on a summer league contract.

Smith initially announced that he was entering the NBA draft at the end of the 2016-17 season. This decision was a surprise דןמבק little was known about him at the time and he eventually backed out, choosing to come back after his senior year instead.

While Smith had a bad year, averaging only 6.2 points and 3.8 rebounds in 20 minutes of play per game, he has a great defensive ability and also, his injuries are the reason that his record has not been at a level it should have been.

He is also the second all-time in Red Raider history books and is perhaps ready to deal with the intensity of the NBA. He will be looking to block as many shots as possible in the summer league and will be working hard to impress so that he can hopefully win a two-year contract.
