The Cleveland Browns just can’t get rid of the injury bug. Browns’ star defensive end Myles Garrett suffered a shoulder injury in Sunday’s 29-17 loss to the Denver Broncos and was unable to finish the game.

Speaking with reporters after the game, Garrett said that he felt something “pop” in his shoulder. He is slated for an MRI test but is positive about being able to play.

“I’ve played through things that should have sidelined me before,” Garrett said. “I’m gonna continue to fight and gonna do what’s best for the team and for myself. We have high hopes for this season and what we’re gonna do. Nothing like this is gonna hold us back or me back.”

Garrett is currently considered a front-runner for the Defensive Player of the Year award. Through 11 games, he has 13.0 sacks, 23 QB hits, four forced fumbles and 32 tackles.

The Browns managed to survive several injuries to their key players in 2023, including losing star running back Nick Chubb and starting quarterback Deshaun Watson. A major reason for that was their exceptional defense led by Garrett. Losing him would be a devastating blow and would likely diminish their chances of making the playoffs.

The Browns were on a three-game winning streak before losing to the Broncos. They are currently sitting in third place in the AFC North with a 7-4 record.

The Los Angeles Chargers have locked up their best defensive player for the foreseeable future. Several weeks after the Cleveland Browns signed their leading defender Myles Garrett to a five-year, $125 million extension, the Bolts rewarded their star edge-rusher even more handsomely.

Defensive end Joey Bosa has agreed to sign a five-year contract extension with the team, worth $135 million.

The contract will keep Bosa in Los Angeles through 2025. Sources close to the team have said that the deal includes more than $100 million in guarantee money with a huge $78 million fully guaranteed as soon as the contract is signed.

All three of these figures are record-breaking for a defensive player in the NFL.

Bosa has proven to be one of the best defensive ends in the league, racking up 40 sacks, 82 quarterback hits, five forced fumbles, and 53 tackles for loss in his first four seasons. What makes these stats even more impressive is the fact that he has missed 13 games due to injuries.

Despite missing the first four games of the season after being drafted third overall in the 2016 draft, Bosa’s performance in the 12 games he played earned him Defensive Rookie of the Year honors.

Cleveland Browns know they have a special player in defensive end Myles Garrett and will pay him like one. According to ESPN’s Jake Trotter, Browns and Garrett are close to agreeing on a five-year, $125 million extension.

This extension would make Garrett the highest-paid non-quarterback player in the league. He would also become the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history.

Garrett has two years left on his rookie deal, so this extension would bring him $144 million in the next seven years.

Browns and Garrett are expected to finalize the deal by Wednesday after the 24-year-old pass rusher passes his physical.

Myles Garrett entered the league in 2017 as Cleveland’s No.1 overall pick and managed to rack 30.5 sacks in the last three years. He also has 104 tackles, four pass deflections, and six forced fumbles to show for.

Garrett’s numbers would probably have been even bigger had he not miss six games last season due to suspension. He was suspended indefinitely after hitting Pittsburgh Steelers’ QB Mason Rudolph with a helmet after an altercation. The NFL reinstated him back in February.

Another member of the 2017 NFL Draft class might get paid soon. After the Carolina Panthers gave running back Christian McCaffrey a record extension in May, the Cleveland Browns are reportedly thinking about doing the same with defensive end Myles Garrett.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Browns and Garrett’s representatives recently engaged in contract talks and are discussing a “mega-extension” for the 24-year-old Pro Bowler.

Despite the fact that Garrett has two more years left on his deal, Fowler reports that Cleveland wants to do a deal early so they could get “ahead of a pricey pass-rush market.”

Myles Garrett, who was the first overall pick in 2017, is considered to be one of the best pass rushers in the NFL despite his short time in the league. Throughout the first three years of his career, Garret racked up 30.5 sacks despite starting only 35 games. Last season he averaged 1.0 sack per game.

Considering all of this, Browns knows that Garrett’s next deal will reset the market so would prefer to do it as soon as possible in order to avoid paying even more down the road. This is especially important knowing they will soon have to extend other young stars like quarterback Baker Mayfield, cornerback Denzel Ward, and running back Nick Chubb.

It is unclear how much Garrett might command with this next extension, but it is believed that the bottom line will be around $25 million a year. Chicago Bears’ Khalil Mack is currently the highest-paid pass rusher in the league with a $23.5 million yearly average.

First overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft Myles Garrett will finally make his NFL debut on Sunday in the Cleveland Browns‘ game against the New York Jets. Garrett didn’t play for the Browns in the regular season after suffering high ankle sprain in practice on September 6. A week ago, he returned to practice and was in limited participation this week. The news about Garrett being available for the Jets game was confirmed by the Browns on Friday.

It’s exciting not just for myself, but for him and his teammates,” head coach Hue Jackson said Friday. He also added that he doesn’t want to physically overload Garrett since he was out for such a long time and that the team has to be “smart” with the expectations from him.

It is exciting. I am ready to play, ready to show what I can do.” – said Garrett at the press conference. “It is just about doing what I can, making the plays I am supposed to make and be who I am supposed to be on the field; not be out of my gap or not missing any assignments and then once I correct all of those and I have no hesitation or anything holding me back, then I can try to step forward and have a bigger role.”

Garrett also said that he wanted to play last week but that the team didn’t allow him to do so, fearing that it could be too soon.

The 21-year-old defensive end played his college football at Texas A&M and was named First-team All-American and First-team All-SEC in both 2015 and 2016. During his college career, Garrett had 141 tackles and 31.0 sacks alongside 1 interception and 7 forced fumbles. After his junior year at college, he entered the 2017 NFL draft where the Browns took him with the No.1 pick.

Cleveland Browns have announced on their official site that the rookie defensive end Myles Garrett suffered an injury in Wednesday’s practice. Garrett wasn’t able to finish the practice after the injury occurred. “He didn’t finish today so we will see where we are” – said Browns coach Hue Jackson. The news was also confirmed on the Cleveland Browns official Twitter profile. The team didn’t reveal how the injury happened.

After evaluating Garrett’s injury, Browns gave an update on Thursday morning. It has been revealed that Myles Garrett has “been diagnosed with a high ankle sprain” and that his status will be “updated in a couple weeks“. According to sources of Cleveland.com, the injury could be more serious and Garrett could be out for 4 weeks or even more. The injury is just another setback for the Browns, who hoped they could have a turn of fortune after a disastrous last season, which ended with 1-15 record.

This isn’t the first time that Myles Garrett had a problem with an injury after he became a member of the Cleveland Browns. His left ankle suffered a lateral sprain during the spring minicamp, but Jackson believes the two injuries are not related. In his freshman year in college, Garrett suffered torn ligaments in his hand, forcing him to a surgery. Garrett’s junior year in college was also limited by injuries since he suffered left leg high-ankle sprain. During his three-year college career, he had 141 tackles, 31.0 sacks and 1 interception in 34 games he played.

After finishing his junior year at Texas A&M University, Garret declared for 2017 NFL Draft, being projected as a first overall pick by the majority of analysts and scouts. Cleveland Browns ended picking Myles Garrett as the first overall pick in the draft and signed him on a $30.41 million, four-year deal with fifth-year team option included.
