The Texas Rangers were dealt a huge scare during Spring Training when outfielder Willie Calhoun’s jaw was broken in an exhibition game after being hit by a 95-mile-per hour Julio Urias fastball.

Now, only a few weeks after the scary injury, Calhoun has been cleared to resume baseball activity.

The 25-year-old Texas native was put out of action on March 8th with his scary injury. He underwent surgery to repair the damage caused by the fastball the next day.

With 26 days having passed since the reconstructive surgery, Calhoun may now begin baseball-specific workouts to advance his recovery process and progress towards being game-ready.

The University of Arizona alum impressed in 2019, his third stint with the big league club. Calhoun played parts of April and May and then from July on with the MLB club, totaling 21 home runs and 48 RBI in only 83 games.

Calhoun, an outfielder, posted a respectable .269/.323/.524 batting line and showed power for the first time as a Major Leaguer.

The California native was penciled in as the Rangers’ Opening Day starting left fielder until his injury and the postponement of the beginning of the 2020 season due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.
