The Boston Red Sox snapped their eight-game losing streak on Tuesday with a 6-2 win over the Kansas City Royals. The win saw a big performance from their veteran shortstop Pablo Reyes, who hit a walk-off homer while also putting together a stat line that has never been seen in MLB history.

Reyes had his big moment in the ninth inning when he stepped on the plate with two outs and bases loaded. He connected on a pitch by Royals’ reliever Carlos Hernandez and sent the ball in the Fenway Park stands for his first career walk-off home run.

Besides his game-ending homer, Reyes also did a lot more throughout the game. He also had three hits, three runs, multiple extra-base hits, and a stolen base. According to Opta STATS, no other player in MLB history has ever managed to achieve all this in a single game.

Pablo Reyes couldn’t have elected a better moment to have a career night. His place on the Red Sox roster was shaky, considering that All-Star shortstop Trevor Story is making a return from the Injured List. But it is now hard to see Boston giving up on Reyes amid his improved play.

“He’s a good kid, and there’s a reason he’s here,” said Red Sox manager Alex Cora after the Royals game. “We like his versatility; we like his at-bats against lefties. You saw it yesterday, controlling the zone against righties. He’s a good player; he is a really good player and a good kid. … It was a great game for Pablo; I’m very proud of him.”

The Tampa Bay Rays dropped Game 5 of the World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday night, but not all news was bad for the franchise as one of their starting outfielders broke a Major League record in the process.

Randy Arozarena lined a fifth-inning single to left field off of Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw to score a run and break the all-time record for hits in a single Postseason.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CF8bZQnpWlC/

The Cuban import, who has played in only 42 career regular-season games, has already compiled 27 hits during October this year, breaking the previous mark set by Giants infielder Pablo Sandoval in 2014.

Arozarena was named the ALCS MVP for his amazing performance in Tampa’s seven-game series against the Astros.

What’s even more remarkable is that Arozarena also broke the record for the number of home runs hit in a single Postseason on Saturday at 9, a record which was previously held by Nelson Cruz, Barry Bonds, and Carlos Beltran.

The young phenomenon, who has cemented his place as one of the game’s brightest young stars this October, will have his chance to build on that total in Game 6 on Tuesday as the Rays look to stay alive and force a winner-take-all Game 7 in the series.

The Atlanta Braves went into their Wednesday night match with the Miami Marlins looking to avoid a series sweep. They certainly did that and set a new National League process in the record.

The Braves annihilated their NL East rivals by a 29-9 final score at Truist Park, setting a National League record for runs scored by a team in one game.

Things didn’t look great for the Braves early, as they went down 2-0 in the first inning after starter Tommy Milone gave up a pair of runs.

They exploded, however, in the second inning with an 11-spot on the scoreboard. The Braves got home runs from Travis d’Arnaud, Adam Duvall, and Ozzie Albies in an outburst that put the game out of reach.

They kept scoring, however, as Freddie Freeman added a two-run homer the next inning and Ronald Acuna Jr. hit a three-run bomb in the fifth.

Adam Duvall had a record-setting night, as he joined Acuna with a three-run homer in the fifth and then hit a grand slam in the seventh inning to push the lead to 29-9.

Duvall finished the night with three home runs and 9 RBI, tying a Braves record for the most runs batted in in a single game.

Atlanta moved to 25-18 on the season with their win, and they now hold a 2-game lead over the Phillies in the NL East.

The Atlanta Braves’ wins over the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on Tuesday and Wednesday might not have seemed like a big deal at first glance, but Braves outfielders Marcell Ozuna and Adam Duvall combined to make history during the dog days of summer.

Ozuna and Duvall became the first teammates in the history of Major League Baseball to hit three home runs in back-to-back games, an astonishing feat considering the 117-year history of the world’s premier baseball league.

Ozuna got the party started on Tuesday night in the Braves’ 10-3 win, going yard off of Ryan Weber, Robert Stock, and Kyle Hart and driving in a total of six runs.

On Wednesday, Duvall was the Braves’ main offensive threat in a 7-5 triumph that saw him blast two-run bombs off of Mike Kickham and Andrew Triggs as well as a solo shot in the eighth inning off of Ryan Brasier to give the Braves insurance.

Amazingly, the home run that gave the Braves the lead earlier in the game came off of the bat of none other than Marcell Ozuna.

The Braves will look to extend their streak of three home run games to three on Friday as they host the Washington Nationals.

Albert Pujols tied Alex Rodriguez with his 2,086th career run batted in during his team’s Wednesday night loss to the San Francisco Giants, tying him for second place on the all-time RBI list in MLB history.

Pujols hit an RBI single in the 6th inning off of Giants pitcher Andrew Suarez, which drove in teammate Anthony Rendon and moved him into a deadlock with Rodriguez.

The run batted in was ultimately wasted by the Angels, who dropped a 7-2 and saw their record fall to a putrid 8-17 mark.

“The Machine,” who has been one of the league’s most-feared hitters for his nearly two-decade-long career, now only trails all-time home run king Hank Aaron for 1st place in the record books. With one year left on the 10-year, $240 million contract that Pujols before the 2012 season, it appears unlikely that he will reach the Braves legend before the end of his career.

Pujols has been hampered by leg injuries and declining production over the past few years, as he has been a below-average hitter and player since 2017.

The Dominican slugger is batting only .209 with 3 home runs so far this season.

Next on the record watch list for Pujols is his next home run, which will be the 660th of his distinguished career and will tie him with Willie Mays for 5th on the all-time list.

Starting pitcher Gerrit Cole of the Houston Astros reached a major milestone on Wednesday night, becoming the eighteenth pitcher in the history of Major League Baseball to record 300 strikeouts in a single season.

Cole got Shin-Soo Choo to swing and miss on an 89 mile per hour to end the sixth inning, recording his eighth strikeout of the game and his three-hundredth of what has been a dominant season for the righty.

Not only did Cole break the 300 strikeout barrier in his start, but he also finished the night with ten strikeouts. This was his seventh consecutive start with at least ten strikeouts, tying him for fourth place on the all-time Major League list.

Cole allowed 2 runs and struck out ten batters in Houston’s 3-2 win over the Texas Rangers, the team’s 100th victory of the season.

The UCLA alum appears to be the front-runner for this year’s AL Cy Young Award. Cole has been great all season, recording an 18-5 record with 302 strikeouts and a 2.61 ERA as the Astros’ co-ace along with Justin Verlander.

It’s been a season to remember for Cole, and Wednesday is a night that he will certainly never forget.

17 years after his Hall of Famer dad hit for the cycle, Cavan Biggio joined him to become the 2nd father-son duo in history to accomplish that feat.

His 9th inning triple completed the cycle on a night when Biggio fought hard in every at bat and hustled on every ball in play. He became only the third Blue Jay in history to hit for the cycle and to top it all off, his mother Patty was in attendance to witness the historical family moment.

While Cavan was just a kid when his father Craig hit for the cycle in 2002 against the Rockies, the younger Biggio kept a ticket stub from the game and posted it on the wall in his room. Of all the great father-son combos throughout baseball, the Biggios join Daryle and Gary Ward as the only ones to hold this rare stat.

Biggio started his rookie season strong with the Blue Jays, but slowed down midseason. Now he is starting to heat up again and is looking to finish a strong rookie campaign, joining Vlad Jr. as the future of the young, talented Blue Jays offense.

When Jonathan Villar of the Baltimore Orioles hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning of a relatively inconsequential September game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, it took a little digging beneath the surface to find out just how significant the long ball was.

The three-run blast was the 6,106th home run of the season in the MLB, which broke the record for the most ever home runs in a single season in the history of the league.

Villar’s homer off of Dodgers reliever Caleb Ferguson put the cherry on top of what has been a power-dominant season in Major League Baseball. Amid accusations of the league using a “juiced” baseball, teams are on base to hit over 6,700 home runs on the season, smashing the previous record.

It’s worth noting that two and a half weeks remain until the end of the season, which will give players even more time to increase the record.

Six players have already hit more than forty home runs in 2019, and it appears that several more will join them by the end of the season.

Pete Alonso of the New York Mets currently leads the league with 47 long balls.

The 2019 New York Yankees will go down in the MLB history books after they set a league record with home runs in 28 consecutive games on Tuesday.

It took no time at all for the Yankees to break the previous record, established by the 2002 Texas Rangers, on Tuesday evening at Yankee Stadium. Second baseman DJ LeMahieu, the author of 11 long balls so far this season, led off the game against the Toronto Blue Jays with a solo blast off of lefty Clayton Richard that reached the second deck in left field.

Amazingly, right after LeMahieu’s leadoff home run, outfielder Aaron Judge hit another home run of his own to go back-to-back. It was Judge’s first home run since he was placed on the Injured List back in April 21st.

The Yankees’ power has been a big reason why they currently hold a 51-28 record, good for first place in the American League East. Despite injuries throughout the season, they have simply been able to outslug other teams in order to consistently win games.

New York is currently fourth in the league in home runs at the halfway point in the season. Their 130 long balls trail only the Minnesota Twins, Seattle Mariners, and Milwaukee Brewers. They already have six players with double-digit home runs on the season, including Gary Sánchez, who leads the team with 23.

History was made on Thursday in St. Petersburg, Florida as Los Angeles Angels designated hitter Shohei Ohtani became the first ever MLB player born in Japan to hit for the cycle.

Ohtani started out with a first inning three-run home run off of Rays starter Ryan Yarbrough.

He then followed up with a third-inning double off and a fifth-inning triple off of Yarbrough to draw within a single of the feat.

Finally, in the top of the seventh inning, Ohtani recorded his fourth hit off the night, a single off of reliever Hunter Wood, to finish off his accomplishment and become the first player of Japanese origin to complete the cycle in a Major League Baseball game.

Ohtani claimed after his feat that he wasn’t even trying to go for a cycle. Through his translator, the second-year player said of his seventh-inning at-bat, “I wasn’t necessarily trying to hit a single. I was just trying to get on base, whether it was a base on balls or any other way because it was still a close game.”

He also expressed his appreciation for the historical significance of his feat, saying that considering the number of legendary Japanese players in MLB history, he was lucky to be able the first to hit for the cycle.

Ohtani’s big night powered the Angels to a 5-3 victory over Tampa.
