After mounting a late rally to come back to beat the Braves in Game 4 of the National League Division Series, the St. Louis Cardinals left no doubt in a convincing win on Wednesday night.

The Cardinals dominated the Braves from the first pitch, winning in a 13-1 laughter that sets them up for a showdown with the Washington Nationals with a trip to the World Series on the line.

St. Louis jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first inning after a comedy of errors by the Braves. A combination of shoddy pitching from starting pitcher Mike Foltynewicz and Max Fried, who relieved him after the former got only one out, and defensive blunders led to the Cardinals taking a lead that they knew that they would not relinquish.

Jack Flaherty, St. Louis’s starter, was at his best in the laugher, throwing 6 innings of one-run ball and striking out 8 Braves. Only third baseman Josh Donaldson was able to touch him with a solo home run in the fourth inning.

St. Louis, who was an underdog heading into the series of the Braves, is now only one series win away from playing for its first World Series title since 2011.

Cody Bellinger is having arguably the best season of any player in all of Major League Baseball this season. While he hit 64 home runs in his first two MLB seasons, and already had 27 in 2019 heading into yesterday’s home clash with the Arizona Diamondbacks, he still hadn’t produced a walk-off long ball in his young career.

That changed as he launched a walk-off home run on Wednesday night in extra innings to clinch a Dodgers sweep over their division rivals.

The 23-year-old launched a massive walk-off home run to right-center field off of Arizona reliever Yoan López to propel the Dodgers to a three-game sweep over the D-Backs and increase their division lead to an astonishing 14 games.

Bellinger’s home run, the 29th he’s hit on the season, measured 442 feet.

What’s even more astounding is that the home run wasn’t even Bellinger’s first long ball of the night. He actually hit a solo home run in the second inning in his first at-bat of the game to give the Dodgers a 1-0 lead.

Bellinger, the 2017 NL Rookie of the Year, looks to be the leading candidate for this year’s National League MVP honors. He’s already been named the league’s starting right fielder for next week’s All-Star Game in Cleveland, Ohio.

The second home run he hit on Wednesday night is one that he’ll certainly never forget.

Christian Yelich might’ve won the 2018 NL MVP Award in his first season with the Milwaukee Brewers, but it doesn’t look like he’s content with his achievement.

Yelich has begun the 2019 season by homering in four consecutive games, which ties an MLB record shared by Willie Mays (1971), Mark McGwire (1998), Nelson Cruz (2011), Chris Davis (2013), and Trevor Story (2016).

In addition to Yelich’s first inning home run off of Michael Wacha, he also hit a game-winning RBI double to beat the Cardinals in a walk-off win.

The Brewers took 3 of 4 games against St. Louis to begin the season last weekend, a strong start against a division rival. The team’s success in large part can be attributed to Yelich, who opened the season with a 6-12, 4 HR, 8 RBI, 6 walk weekend.

Yelich took home the 2018 NL MVP Award after putting up a .326/.402/.598 slash line with 36 home runs and 110 RBI.

The 27-year-old outfielder looks ready to come out swinging to defend his MVP crown and fight for another NL Central division title with his team.
