A legend of mixed martial arts has decided to call it a career after a successful and distinguished career.

Georges St-Pierre is set to announce his retirement from the sport in a press conference on Thursday.

The Quebec native leaves behind one of the greatest legacies and careers of any fighter in the history of mixed martial arts.

St-Pierre, who is now 37 years old, began his MMA career back in 2002. He became affiliated with the UFC brand shortly after in 2003, where he developed into one of the league’s most decorated fighters of all time.

St-Pierre fought in the welterweight division for the majority of his career. He was crowned the champion of this MMA division three times in his career in a period from 2006 to 2008.

St-Pierre had an especially significant career because he also became champion of the middleweight division after taking down Michael Bispig at UFC 217 in November 2017, his last fight.

He will retire as the most successful Canadian in the history of the sport and as one of the most unique and special fighters of all time.

St-Pierre retires with a career record of 26-2.
