The Los Angeles Angels’ superstar outfielder Mike Trout is dealing with a meniscus injury in his left knee and will require surgery. Trout is expected to be sidelined for an extended period, but the organization hopes he will be able to return to action before the end of the 2024 MLB season.

According to ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez, Trout will undergo the procedure at some point this week. If everything goes as planned and doctors don’t discover further damage in his knee, Trout could be back on the field in four to six weeks.

Speaking with reporters after the news was confirmed, Trout said that he isn’t sure when his injury took place. He played the entirety of a 6-5 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday but said that he felt discomfort in his knee in the third inning. He reported it to the medical staff after the game and learned the bad news following a checkup.

“It was just sore,” Trout said. “I was kind of telling myself maybe I just banged it on something and I didn’t realize it. Then, after the game, getting treatment, it was really sore.”

Trout added that the injury is “frustrating,” but he is keeping a positive mind.

Early in his career, Mike Trout was considered the best player in baseball, winning three AL MVP awards between 2014 and 2019. However, a series of injuries derailed his career in recent years, and he managed to play more than 54 games only once since 2019.

In 29 games played this season, Trout batted .220 with 14 RBIs and league-leading 10 home runs.

Los Angeles Angels’ star Mike Trout told reporters on Monday that he still doesn’t know when he’ll return to action. Trout has been out since early July after suffering a hand fracture.

Trout said that he is progressing in his rehab “every day” but that there is still no fixed timeline for his return.

“I know that it’s just a pain tolerance thing,” Trout explained. “Once it gets to a point where it’s bearable, I’ll be out there.”

According to Trout, the injury hasn’t affected his defense, but his batting still comes with a level of discomfort.

“There are certain movements I do in the outfield where, backhand, where I hit it funny, it acts up a little bit. But nothing’s holding me back on defense. It’s just the swinging part,” he added.

Before going down with the injury, Trout was batting .263 and had 18 homers and 44 RBIs in 81 games. The Angels will hope that he can pick up where he left off once he returns as they make a push for their first playoff appearance since 2014.

The Angels have been on a bad run lately, winning just three out of their last 10 games. They currently have a 59-61 record, trailing the AL West leaders Texas Rangers by 12.5 games.

The back spasms that have kept the Los Angeles Angels superstar Mike Trout on the sidelines on several occasions this season are not just spasms. According to the team’s head trainer Mike Frostad, Trout is actually dealing with “a pretty rare condition.”

“(Dr. Robert Watkins), one of the most well-known spine surgeons in the country, if not the world, doesn’t see a lot of these,” said Frostad while also adding that this condition might affect the three-time AL MVP for the rest of his career.

Trout has been out since mid-July after landing on the 10-day injured list. The 30-year-old player played 79 games, most since 2019, and is hitting .270 with 24 homers and 51 RBIs.

Expectedly, Frostad’s statement raised some concerns among Angels fans, but Trout himself played down the impact that the back condition might have on his career.

“I think he meant that I have to stay on top of the routine I do on a daily basis to keep it from coming back,” Trout told reporters several hours later. “I’m appreciative of all the prayer requests, but my career is not over.”

Trout is currently undergoing cortisone injection therapy, which is already giving results, according to the player. He even plans on returning to the field in 2022, although there is no indication of when that might happen.

A lingering back injury has landed Los Angeles Angels superstar outfielder Mike Trout on the 10-day injured list ahead of the All-Star break. The Angels’ confirmed the news via social media on Monday.

Trout was out for several games recently and has been dealing with back spasms for some time now. After taking some time to think about their next move, the Angels probably

figured the All-Star break was the time when Trout’s absence would do the least damage.

It’s nothing new for Trout to be on the injured list in recent years. After being the best player in baseball in the mid-2010s, Trout became increasingly injury-prone. He missed time in 2017 due to torn thumb ligament, dealt with wrist inflammation in 2018, and then had to get foot surgery in 2019. His injury-woes culminated last season when he only played 36 games due to a torn calf muscle.

So far in 2022, Trout seemed in good shape despite shaky production. He has been batting .270 with 24 home runs and 51 RBIs across 79 games played. This was enough to get him his 10th career All-Star appearance. He will be replaced by the San Diego Padres’ infielder Ty France in this year’s All-Star Game.

The Angels can now only hope that Trout’s time on the IL is a short one. The LA team is currently fourth in the AL West with a 39-53 record and 20.5 games behind leaders Houston Astros.

A calf injury should keep Los Angeles Angels star center fielder Mike Trout on the sidelines for the remainder of the 2021 MLB season. At least that is what Trout’s manager Joe Maddon believes.

During a press conference on Wednesday, Maddon said that he would be very surprised if Trout ends up playing before next year.

“I’m not anticipating anything to change in regards to him playing,” Maddon said.

Trout hurt his right calf back in May and was originally set to miss between six and eight weeks of action. However, the injury proved to be more severe than initially believed, while soreness further stalled his recovery.

The three-time AL MVP has been pushing to get back on the field regardless, but it doesn’t look like he’ll get a chance to do so as the Angels don’t want to take any risks with the best player in baseball.

“I don’t expect him to play today or tomorrow or anytime soon,” Maddon added. “He’s upbeat as he can be.”

Mike Trout played 36 games in 2021 before going down with the injury. He had a .333 batting average, eight home runs, and 18 RBIs at that point.

Without Trout in the lineup, the Angels struggled to remain in the postseason hunt and will most likely extend their playoff drought. The team is currently fourth in AL West with a 70-74 record.
