Twin brothers Maurkice Pouncey and Mike Pouncey somehow didn’t enter the NFL in the same year. But that won’t stop them from retiring together.

Retired Pittsburgh Steelers’ guard Ramon Foster shared on social media on Friday that the Pouncey brothers asked him to announce the end of their playing careers. He also attached a memo in which the twins thanked all those who were involved in their careers.

Maurkice Pouncey spent his entire NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who drafted him with the No. 18 pick in 2010. He went on to become one of the franchise’s most reliable players, taking the field in 134 games at the center position. He will leave the league with nine Pro Bowl appearances to his name alongside five All-Pro selections and the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team nod.

Following Maurkice Pouncey’s retirement announcement, multiple members of the Steelers’ organization went on to congratulate the 31-year-old veteran on social media, including his teammate TJ Watt and head coach Mike Tomlin.

Mike Pouncey started his NFL journey with the Miami Dolphins, being their No. 15 pick in 2011. He played in Florida for seven years, during which he had three Pro Bowl selections. In 2018, he signed with the LA Chargers and earned one additional Pro Bowl nod there.  Altogether, he has 114 games as a pro in 10 years.

Los Angeles Chargers found out some good news this week. Their Pro Bowl center Mike Pouncey is ready to return to action after he spent the majority of 2019 on injured reserve.

Pouncey suffered a neck injury in Week 5 game against Denver Broncos and had to undergo a surgery which ruled him out for the season. The 30-year-old ended up recovering according to plan and is now finally “cleared to play” despite having to take several more steps in the rehab process.

“I feel great,” said Pouncey during a conference call with reporters on Wednesday. “It’s still a process coming back from neck surgery, so I’m just in the rehab stages. But yes, if you (were) to ask the doctor that did my surgery, I’ve been cleared to play.”

According to Pouncey, he is back to his usual training regime and will be ready once the NFL allows teams to organize training camps.

Mike Pouncey joined Chargers on a two-year, $15 million contract back in 2018. In his first year in LA, Pouncey played all 16 games and managed to earn a Pro Bowl nod. This ended up bringing him a one-year, $7 million contract extension during the 2019 offseason.

Pouncey, who was 15th overall pick in 2011, previously spent seven years with Miami Dolphins.

The Los Angeles Chargers are set to be without a cornerstone of their offensive line for a large part of this NFL season after placing Pro Bowl center Mike Pouncey on the injured reserve list.

Pouncey sustained a neck injury, whose official diagnosis has yet to be announced by the team, during the team’s loss to the Denver Broncos over the weekend.

Due to being placed on injured reserve, Pouncey will not be eligible to return to the team until the Chargers’ Week 14 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. It’s unknown if the severity of the injury will prevent him from coming back this year.

Pouncey made the Pro Bowl in 2018 and was then released by the Miami Dolphins in an offseason budget tightening move. He then joined Los Angeles, for whom he started all 16 games last season.

The Chargers now find themselves short on depth on the offensive line, as they are missing both Pouncey and left tackle Russell Okung (pulmonary embolism).

The team signed former Bills center Ryan Groy in order to cover Pouncey’s absence, but left guard Dan Feeney is expected to start at center for the meantime.

Los Angeles will now cross their fingers and hope that their starting center can rejoin the team before the end of the season.
