Left-handed starting pitcher Mike Minor, a free agent after his deal expired at the end of the season, has agreed to join the Kansas City Royals for the next two seasons.

Minor, who turned his career around in Kansas City as a reliever and was a key part of the team’s bullpen that season, thus returns to one of his former baseball homes.

The Vanderbilt alum, formerly a top prospect and a quality young pitcher with the Atlanta Braves, suffered a torn labrum that caused him to miss the entire 2015 and 2016 seasons.

He re-appeared as a lefty relief arm with Kansas City in 2017 and then became one of the league’s most consistent left-handed starters after signing a three-year deal with the Rangers in 2018.

Minor compiled a 27-24 record with a 4.07 ERA over the past three seasons, spending most of the time with the Rangers before a late-season trade took him to the A’s last season.

Now, Minor will slot into the Royals’ rotation at the age of 33 and will serve as a veteran presence to mentor young arms like Brady Singer, Kris Bubic, and Brad Keller as the team looks to return to competitiveness in the tough AL Central.

The Royals are expected to make the deal official in the next couple of days.

Since July 1, 2018, the Yankees have scored in every game they played, up until Monday’s matchup against the Rangers. During that time period, there were 368 shutouts in baseball, with each team being shutout at least 3 times – all except for the Yankees.

The sub .500 Rangers managed to put an end to the streak with a 7-0 win in the Bronx. After a 2-hour, 52-minute rain delay, Texas ace Mike Minor pitched 7 1/3 shutout innings while striking out 5.

The streak is the second-longest ever with the ’31-’33 Yankees holding the record of 308 consecutive games played without being shutout.

Twice during the streak, the Yankees were held scoreless til the 9th inning, and both times they managed to score on the final out. It looked like the magic would continue as Mike Ford hit a two-out single in the bottom of the 9th, but Luke Voit grounded out to end the game.

The Texas Rangers might have been surprising playoff contenders for the first half of the season, but with the team now at 50-50 and 6.5 games out of the Wild Card chase, it appears that they will look to sell some of their top assets.

It appears that lefty starter Mike Minor could be on the move at the trade deadline, who promises to be one of the more promising names available this summer.

Minor, a 31-year-old veteran, has put up a career season for Texas so far in 2019.

The Vanderbilt alum currently sports an 8-5 record along with a stellar 2.86 ERA, which is good for 8th among qualified starters in the MLB.

The New York Yankees have reportedly been considering Minor as a possibility, as they’ve had scouts watching his past outings.

Other teams mentioned as potential fits for Minor include the Philadelphia Phillies and the Atlanta Braves, the team which drafted Minor back in 2009 and with which he spent the first several seasons of his Major League career.

Minor’s current contract runs through the end of the 2020 season. If Texas decides to trade the lefty, they’ll almost certainly get something good in return.
