The Dallas Cowboys are sticking with head coach Mike McCarthy despite a disappointing playoff exit, according to multiple reports. After going 12-5 in the regular season and winning the NFC East, the Cowboys flamed out in the Wild Card round with a 32-48 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Following another postseason failure, there was chatter that team owner Jerry Jones might consider firing McCarthy and perhaps replacing him with Bill Belichick. But it turns out that McCarthy will get another chance and at least see out his contract that runs through the 2024 season.

McCarthy was hired as the Cowboys’ head coach in 2020, replacing Jason Garrett. In his first season in charge, McCarthy went 6-10 but followed that up with three straight 12-win seasons. However, he has yet to make a deep postseason run with the franchise, having only one playoff win in four years.

Despite the lack of success in the postseason, McCarthy recently received support from Cowboys’ players, including star quarterback Dak Prescott.

“I’ve had the season that I’ve had because of him,” Prescott said when asked about rumors surrounding McCarthy’s future in Dallas. “This team has had the success that they’ve had because of him. I understand it’s about winning the Super Bowl. That’s the standard of this league and (darn) sure the standard of this place. I get it, but add me to the list, in that case.”

Dallas Cowboys are performing well below expectations this season, which sparked rumors that the team might have “buyer’s remorse” when it comes to hiring Mike McCarthy as their head coach.

Even if that is true, Cowboys’ brass isn’t ready to make it public just yet.

The team’s executive vice president Stephen Jones recently made an appearance on Dallas’ based radio station 105.3 The Fan, and was naturally asked about his opinion on McCarthy’s performances so far. While Jones said that he understands the criticism towards the new coaching staff, he also reiterated that the organization believes they have the right man for the job.

“I know we’ve got the right head guy for the job,” said Jones. “These things just take time. I know our fans are frustrated. We certainly understand the criticism that’s come our way. But we’ve got to go to work.”

Jones also explained that the franchise intends to remain patient with McCarthy and his staff, believing it is only a matter of time before everything falls in place for the Cowboys.

Criticism towards Mike McCarthy has been well deserved so far, considering that he couldn’t do better than a 2-5 record despite having a talented squad. Cowboys hired McCarthy with a goal to challenge for Super Bowl, which is something they couldn’t count on with their past head coach Jason Garret. If he can’t live up to that expectation, don’t expect Dallas to remain patient despite what they say.

It seems like Dallas Cowboys decided not to prolong their head coaching search as they did with firing Jason Garrett. According to multiple reports, Cowboys will hire Mike McCarthy to be the team’s coach in 2020.

The news comes just 24 hours after Cowboys made it clear that Garrett won’t get a contract extension after his contract expired following the end 2019 NFL season. Only other candidate that the team considered besides McCarthy was reportedly former Cincinnati Bengals’ Marvin Lewis.

Early on Monday, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero shared on social media that McCarthy confirmed to him that he already signed a contract.

Mike McCarthy joins the Dallas Cowboys after previously spending 13 years with Green Bay Packers and winning a Super Bowl. McCarthy exited Green Bay towards the end of 2018 NFL season, after being on track to miss the playoffs for the second consecutive time. He was a candidate for several coaching vacancies last year but ended up deciding to take the year off after not landing New York Jets job.

Dallas Cowboys hope that McCarthy will bring them stability and get the best out of their young quarterback Dak Prescott. Cowboys are considered to have one of the most talented rosters in the league but haven’t done much this season, missing the playoffs. This ended up costing Garrett his job and urging Dallas to get a coach with experience and previous success.

After firing Ron Rivera a couple of weeks ago, Carolina Panthers opted to start their head coaching search even before the season ended. According to the reports, the candidate they’re strongly considering is former Green Bay Packers’ head coach Mike McCarthy.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Monday that Panthers interviewed McCarthy after their Week 16 game against Indianapolis Colts. The team declined to comment after being reached out to following these reports.

Mike McCarthy spent the past year jobless but announced his intention to return to NFL on multiple occasions in the past. If he doesn’t get the Panthers job, it’s expected that he will be a candidate for several other coaching vacancies that are bound to open after the season ends.

McCarthy was fired in late 2018 by Packers after missing out on the playoffs in two consecutive seasons. He previously spent 13 years in Green Bay, winning one Super Bowl and reaching three NFC Championship games.

Carolina is reportedly considering several other candidates besides McCarthy, including Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and Minnesota Vikings’ OC Kevin Stefanski.

It’s been a little over a month since Mike McCarthy was fired by Green Bay Packers, but the 55-year-old is already willing to get back into the game. According to NFL Insider Ian Rapaport, McCarthy plans to interview with the New York Jets and Cleveland Brown for their head coaching vacancies.

Thanks to his accomplished CV, which includes Super Bowl trophy and being in the top 10 most winning coaches in the history of the league, McCarthy garnered interest from several NFL teams in the recent weeks. He already refused the opportunity to interview with the Arizona Cardinals, but according to sources, that didn’t mean he will take the year off.

The reason Mike McCarthy might emerge as a leading candidate for both the Jets and the Browns is his reputation for being great with young quarterbacks. He is credited for developing Aaron Rodgers into one of the best quarterbacks in the history of the NFL, something both New York and Cleveland hope he could achieve with Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield respectively.

McCarthy worked in NFL since 1993 on several positions, including being an offensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints and San Francisco 49ers. He joined the Packers in 2006 and spent almost 13 years with the franchise before being fired in December 2018. His coaching record includes being 125–77–2 in the regular season and 10-8 in the postseason.

After suffering an embarrassing 17-20 loss at home from 2-9 Arizona Cardinals and losing the chance to reach the playoffs, Green Bay Packers have decided to fire their head coach Mike McCarthy. Although it is a surprise that the Packers made this decision mid-season, McCarthy was on a hot seat for some time and was expected to leave at the end of the year.

Green Bay named offensive coordinator Joe Philbin as an interim head coach. Philbin already has head coaching experience, having coached Miami Dolphins from 2012 to 2015.

The decision to fire Mike McCarthy was confirmed by Packers president Mark Murphy on Sunday night.

The 2018 season has not lived up to the expectations and standards of the Green Bay Packers. As a result, I made the difficult decision to relieve Mike McCarthy of his role as head coach, effective immediately,” – said Murphy in a statement. “Mike has been a terrific head coach and leader of the Packers for 13 seasons, during which time we experienced a great deal of success on and off the field. We want to thank Mike, his wife, Jessica, and the rest of the McCarthy family for all that they have done for the Packers and the Green Bay and Wisconsin communities. We will immediately begin the process of selecting the next head coach of the Green Bay Packers.”

Mike McCarthy joined the Green Bay Packers in 2006 and managed to lead the team to playoffs in nine out of his first 11 seasons in charge. Although Packers managed to won one Super Bowl trophy under McCarthy, the 55-year-old also missed out on several opportunities to win more titles having lost three NFC Championship games.

McCarthy has a 125–77–2 regular season record as Green Bay coach while being 10-8 in the postseason.
