The Houston Texans, who have struggled with defending the pass in the first four games of the season, made a move on Tuesday to help them shore up their leaky secondary.

Mike Adams, a 15-year veteran of the league, will join the team on a contract for the rest of the season. He last played for the Carolina Panthers in the past two seasons and has also spent time with the Colts, Broncos, Browns, and 49ers in a long and fruitful NFL career.

In order to make room for their new roster addition, Houston released backup tight end Jerell Adams.

The Texans hope that Adams, a two-time Pro Bowler, will help to improve a pass defense that has allowed 259 yards per game, one of the worst marks in the league. Despite his age, Adams played well last season with Carolina, making 75 tackles and intercepting three passes.

The 38-year-old has accumulated 30 career interceptions, the majority of which have come in a very productive second half of his long career.

Adams is expected to find plenty of playing time immediately for the Texans, who are currently at 2-2 in the competitive AFC South and looking to repeat as top dogs in the division.
