The Dallas Cowboys have taken advantage of an uncomfortable situation in New England to acquire a veteran defensive end that they hope will help push them into the playoffs down the stretch.

Michael Bennett, who wore out his welcome in New England quickly, was sent to the Cowboys in exchange for a 2021 seventh-round draft pick that seems like a low price to pay for a talent as good as Bennett’s.

Bennett joined the Patriots over the offseason after Bill Belichick’s team sent a fifth-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles in order to acquire the former star.

His tenure in New England was short-lived, as he spent only seven weeks with the team. He played in only 30% of the teams defensive snaps before being suspended for voicing his displeasure with his lack of playing time to his position coach.

The Cowboys, then, bought low on Bennett in the hopes that he’ll have an edge-rushing option to a defense that has looked to be missing this facet of the game. He is expected to immediately become a starter for the NFC East team.

Dallas has a bye this weekend, meaning that Bennett should make his Dallas debut on Monday, November 4th against the New York Giants.
