Sources say that Ozil has received an “attractive” offer from D.C. that includes more than just a big salary. If he decides to move to the United States, the 32-year-old player will receive help in expanding his brands and businesses like 39 Steps Coffee while also becoming the franchise’s star for years to come.

D.C. United also hopes that Ozil’s agent Erkut Sogut might help them seal the deal. Sogut is believed to have a close relationship with the club’s Chief Strategist Samuel Porter—especially since the duo previously collaborated on Wayne Rooney’s arrival at Audi Field Stadium.

It remains to be seen whether this will be enough to tempt Ozil to come to the MLS, as he is considering several more offers. This includes an approach from Fenerbahce, one of Turkey’s biggest clubs.

Mesut Ozil is in the final six months of his deal with Arsenal and is eligible to sign a pre-contract with a club outside of England. There is also a chance that he’ll depart the club in January if someone is willing to pay a transfer fee for him.

Reportedly, Arsenal’s decision is based on financial reasons. The Premier League side is looking to rebuild their squad under the new manager Mikel Arteta and needs to find ways to free up funds for transfer moves. The easiest way to do so would be getting Ozil off their books, considering he is club’s highest earner with $435,000 weekly salary.

Ozil, on the other hand, isn’t ready to give up on his huge salary as it’s highly unlikely he could command such money elsewhere. Sources add that the 31-year-old midfielder also believes he can regain his previous form and is ready to fight for his place in the starting eleven.

Despite being one of Arsenal’s most important players at one point, Mesut Ozil has been going through some rough time since Arsene Wenger left the club. Ozil has been rarely used under Unai Emery and was ineffective even when he was on the field. He also clashed with the Spanish manager on several occasions which just pushed him further down the pecking order.

Reportedly, D.C. will meet with Ozil’s representatives on Monday and present them with an offer for the 30-year-old. Washington Post adds that presumed move would take place in January if the two sides manage to come to an agreement.

While there is a certain level of interest from Mesut Ozil to come to the United States, his astronomical salary might be too much for D.C. United to handle. Ozil signed a new deal with Arsenal in 2018 and is reportedly earning close to $22 million a year. If he was to come to MLS, he would probably have to take a massive pay cut.

Although Ozil leaving Europe might seem unlikely to some, the fact is that the German isn’t having the best relationship with Arsenal’s manager Unai Emery.
