The Los Angeles Dodgers placed one of their key roster cogs on the injured list on Friday after finding out that initial x-ray diagnoses were incorrect and that Max Muncy had fractured his right wrist in a game against the San Diego Padres.

Muncy was hit by a pitch by Padres pitcher Matt Strahm and suffered a small fracture in his right wrist that is expected to keep him on the shelf for a couple of weeks. The injury might’ve been a little more serious than the Dodgers initially anticipated, but they seem to have dodged a bullet after learning that Muncy should be good to go for the playoffs.

The 28-year-old is one of the most important position players on the NL West-leading Dodgers’ roster, batting .253 with 33 home runs in 129 games this season. He’s spent time playing first, second, and third base this season, showing positional versatility which should make him a key piece for the Dodgers’ playoff run.

Any sort of longer-term injury would’ve been a blow to Los Angeles’ World Series aspirations, but they look to have dodged a bullet with Muncy’s injury.

He’s expected to return by the end of the month and to be ready for the playoffs.
