Buffalo Sabres are using the suspension of the NHL season to add some talent to their roster. The team announced on Wednesday that they have signed prospect defenseman Mattias Samuelsson to an entry-level contract. Samuelsson’s deal will keep him with Buffalo for at least the next three years.

Samuelsson will join Sabres after spending the 2019/20 at Western Michigan, where he played 20 games and contributed with two goals and 12 assists.

The team made the news official via their social media.

“We are very pleased with Mattias’ growth both at Western Michigan and on the international stage,” said Sabres general manager Jason Botterill. “He possesses a unique combination of size, speed, and skill, and we look forward to working with him on his next steps as a pro.”

Sabres took Mattias Samuelsson with the 32nd overall pick in 2018 NHL Entry Draft. He’s now a pro after playing 64 games and accounting for 26 points (7 goals and 19 assists) at the collegiate level.

Samuelsson was also a member of the United States national side at two IIHF World Junior Championships, helping the team win a silver medal in 2019.
