Veteran running back Marshawn Lynch might reunite with the Seattle Seahawks once again in 2020. According to Lynch, he’s having talks with Seahawks about a possible return this season.

Although he initially retired in 2018, Lynch returned to football towards the end of last season in order to help Seattle cope with injury issues that plagued their backfield. While the 34-year-old didn’t have spectacular runs since his return, he contributed with four touchdowns in just three games, which was enough for Seattle to consider bringing him back.

“Well, it’s almost on that ‘expect the unexpected,'” said Lynch during his appearance on SportsCenter on Monday. “But just as far as right now, what I do know is, Imma keep it solid. My agent [Doug Hendrickson] has been in talks with Seattle, so like I said, we’ll see what happens. If it works out and I get back up there, it is what it is. And if not, s—, I’m lookin’ good. So I ain’t really trippin’ too much.”

Seattle already has Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny as their starting running backs, but both of them suffered season-ending injuries in 2019, and it’s unclear whether they’ll return in shape in time for Week 1 of 2020 NFL season. This is why the Seahawks are looking for another veteran back to help them with the transition, and Lynch seems like an ideal solution.

“We’re open to whatever,” said Seahawks’ head coach Pete Carroll when asked about Lynch’s return. “We’ll look at everything.”

Marshawn Lynch initially joined Seattle Seahawks midway through the 2010 season in a trade with Buffalo Bills. The deal quickly proved to be a steal for Seahawks, as Lynch cleared out 1,200+ rushing yards and 11+ rushing touchdowns in each of the next four seasons. He also helped Seahawks win a Super Bowl ring and earned four Pro Bowl appearances in the process.

After injury-riddled 2015 season, Lynch decided to retire. However, he returned in 2017 to sign with Oakland Raiders, where he spent a season and a half before walking away from football once again.

Running back Marshawn Lynch could attempt another Super Bowl run with Seattle Seahawks. Reports surfaced on Sunday that Lynch, who retired following the 2018 season, will have talks with Seahawks about a potential reunion in the coming days.

The news comes after Seahawks lost starter Chris Carson and backup C.J. Prosise to injuries in Sunday’s loss to Arizona Cardinals. Carson suffered a hip injury that could possibly rule him out for the season, while Prosise broke his arm and will definitely miss the remainder of 2019. Seattle was already without Rashaad Penny, who tore his ACL several weeks ago.

With a lack of quality RB free agents, Seahawks are forced to be creative in order to have a chance to make a deep playoff run. Lynch represents an interesting choice due to his familiarity with the coaching staff and the organization.

Marshawn Lynch played his best football in Seattle, being a Seahawk between 2010 and 2015, and making four Pro Bowls.  He also played a crucial role in helping the team win Super Bowl XLVIII.

Lynch spent the 2018 season with Oakland Raiders but managed to play only six games due to a groin injury. He finished the year with 376 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns.

Seahawks are also expected to talk with free agent RB Robert Turbin, who started his NFL career with the franchise back in 2012. Turbin last played in NFL in November 2018, when he was with Indianapolis Colts.
