The Kansas City Chiefs have finally got involved in the free agency. The reigning Super Bowl champions reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with wideout Marquise “Hollywood” Brown.

Brown is expected to earn $7 million in guaranteed salary in 2024 while being able to get up to $4 million in incentives.

Brown spent the last two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. He had a lackluster campaign in 2023, which saw him catch 51 passes for 574 yards and four touchdowns. However, part of his struggles was the fact that the Cardinals played most of the season without starting quarterback Kyler Murray.

The Chiefs likely hope that having a star quarterback in Patrick Mahomes will help Brown unlock his full potential, which made him a first-round pick in 2019. Brown had his most productive season as a pro in 2021 with the Baltimore Ravens, when he made 91 receptions for 1,008 yards and six TDs.

Kansas City heavily leaned on tight end Travis Kelce and rookie wideout Rashee Rice as their pass-catching options last season. The rest of their receiver corps was underwhelming, which is why the Chiefs made it a priority to upgrade at wide receiver this offseason. Signing Brown isn’t likely the end of it, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Chiefs address the position in the 2024 NFL Draft as well.

Baltimore Ravens’ second-year wideout Marquise “Hollywood” Brown isn’t happy with his role in the team’s offense so far in 2020. Brown has been especially frustrated with the lack of targets he has been receiving and recently even went on social media to express his displeasure after getting only two looks in Sunday’s 28-24 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Now, Ravens’ star quarterback Lamar Jackson decided to weigh in on the situation by taking the blame for the way Brown is feeling.

Speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Jackson said that he “has to do a better job” in getting the ball to Brown.

“That’s one of our key players to our offense,” said Jackson. “I want to get him the ball, the easiest way and fastest way we can. I have to do a better job of getting it to him.”

Brown leads Baltimore with 27 receptions for 379 yards this season but has only been targeted 44 times in the past eight games. This ranks him 45th in the NFL, which is painfully low for a player that is considered his team’s No.1 option on the position.

It remains to be seen whether Marquise Brown’s public plea will help him get more looks as the season advances. Ravens have been more oriented towards rushing due to Jackson’s unique set of abilities, and it also doesn’t help that Brown is more of a deep threat rather than a wideout for short gains.

Brown was expected to have a big season in 2020, especially considering his encouraging production last year. He finished his rookie campaign with 46 catches for 584 yards and seven touchdowns.

The 2019 NFL Draft class just became a lot more exciting as Oklahoma Sooners’ wide receiver Marquise Brown just announced he’ll be a part of it. Brown, who is a cousin of Pittsburgh Steelers’ WR Antonio Brown, declared his intention to enter the draft on Wednesday via his Twitter profile.

Marquise Brown is now projected to be selected in the first round of the 2019 draft. ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. has him ranked as the 18th overall prospect in the class the 21-year-old is also considered to be the best WR available.

NFL scouts think of Brown as a talented prospect who has the ability to win the vertical battles with coverage and can gain lots of yardage after the catch. He is also considered to be explosive from the line of scrimmage and capable route runner.

After finishing high school, Marquise Brown signed with the College of the Canyons in 2016, but ended up spending just a year there before receiving a scholarship offer from Oklahoma. After having 1095 receiving yards in his sophomore season, Brown managed to be even better in 2018 and finish the year with 75 receptions, 1,318 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. He earned several honors after the season concluded including the First-team All-American selection.
