Wideout Marqise Lee didn’t have to wait too long to get another job in NFL after being released by Jacksonville Jaguars earlier this week. ESPN reports that Lee joined New England Patriots, inking a one-year deal on Thursday.

Lee was limited to just one start last year, battling with injuries. He finished 2019 with three catches for 18 yards.

Pats hope that Lee can bounce back from a couple of injury-plagued years and live up to the potential that made Jags spend a second-round pick on him in 2014. Lee will battle for the backup wide receiver spot on the team with another new signing Damiere Byrd and second-year players Jakobi Meyers and Gunner Olszewski. New England’s starters will be determined between last year’s first-round pick N’Keal Harry and veterans Julian Edelman and Mohamed Sanu.

Marqise Lee supposed to be Jacksonville’s long term solution on the WR position, with the team signing him to a four-year, $38 million contract extension in 2018 after several productive seasons. However, Lee didn’t get to justify the money invested in him as he suffered a severe injury in the preseason and spent the entire year on the sidelines. He attempted a comeback last season but didn’t make enough progress to keep his job with the Jaguars.

Lee has 174 career receptions for 2,184 yards and eight touchdowns.

Jacksonville Jaguars were hoping to be a contender for Super Bowl this year as well, but now they suffered an unexpected setback. Jaguars announced on Monday that their leading wide receiver in last season, Marqise Lee, would miss the 2018 season due to a knee injury.

Lee suffered the injury in Jags’ 17-6 win over Atlanta Falcons on Saturday, when he was tackled by Falcons safety Damontae Kazee.

According to the team’s head coach, Doug Marrone, Lee is set to have surgery shortly and will be placed on the injured reserve.

Obviously it’s a loss for us,” – said Marrone. “Marqise brought a level of toughness to that room. He was obviously a very productive player for us in the past, specifically on third down. I do feel, though, once he starts recovery we want him around the team. I think he can help us.”

Marrone hopes that the rest of Jacksonville’s receiving core – veteran Donte Moncrief, Keelan Cole, Dede Westbrook, and rookie DJ Chark- will now step up to the task.

I feel very confident about the players that we have at that position,” – he added. “I still it as competition there. We’re not settled on some of the spots at receiver, but we feel that we’re good enough to go into the season with the guys that we think can make the team.

After unimpressive first two seasons in the NFL, Marqise Lee had his big breakthrough in 2016 when he had 63 catches for 851 yards and three touchdowns. He backed that in 2017 as well, catching 56 passes for 702 yards and three touchdowns. After these encouraging showings, Jags gave Lee a four-year, $38 million contract extension in March 2018.

Jacksonville Jaguars could really use some offensive boost in the NFL Wild Card Game against the Buffalo Bills, and wide receiver Marqise Lee is ready to help. Although listed questionable, Lee, who is the team’s leading receivers, says he intends to play unless instructed otherwise.

In my head, [I’ll] just continue to have my head up as far as me playing,” – he said. “If I had to decide, I am going to play until they decide I’m not.

Lee suffered an ankle injury early in the game against the Houston Texans and missed the final two games of the season. During the 13 games, he had 56 receptions for 702 yards and three touchdowns. The Jags missed his presence on the field, losing both games Lee was out.

The 26-year-old WR practiced on a limited basis for the first time on Friday and will have his ankle tested on Sunday. Although he wishes to play in the Jags’ first playoff games since 2007, Lee will only do it if he thinks he can help.

If I felt like I was going to go out there and be hurting and hurt the team, I wouldn’t do it.” – said Lee. “But I feel like I can go out there, give it my all as far as be a solid 100 percent, and go out there and just produce for the team, or just do what they need me to do as far as this point. I feel like I can go out there and do it, so I’m going to go out there and do it.

Jacksonville Jaguars ended the season at the top of AFC South with a 10-6 record. They will have a home advantage on Sunday when they face the Bills. For the Buffalo Bills, a playoff appearance is reason enough to celebrate since it will be their first one in 17 years.

Jacksonville Jaguars face the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, hoping for another win and clinching the division title, but that might be more difficult without Marqise Lee. The team’s leading receiver was ruled out due to an ankle injury, the team announced on Friday. Lee suffered an injury in the Jaguars 45-7 victory over Houston Texans and didn’t participate in practices.

Drafted by the Jaguars as the 39th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Lee struggled in his first two seasons with the team. In 2016, however, he had 851 yards and 3 touchdowns, showing signs of promise. This season, he leads the Jaguars with 56 receptions and 702 receiving yards. The game against the 49ers will be the first he will miss since Week 9 of 2015 season.

Another receiver, Allen Hurns, might not play for the Jags on Sunday. He suffered a sprained ankle in Week 10’s 20-17 win against the Los Angeles Chargers. Hurns made a return to practice on Wednesday, but on a limited basis. Before his injury, he had 36 catches for 446 yards alongside two touchdowns.

He’s working hard to get back,” – said Jaguars’ head coach Doug Marrone for the team’s official website. “We’ve got to look at today, see where we are, then we have tomorrow (Saturday) and the flight, then obviously we’ll make a decision.

If both Hurns also remains out with Lee, the duo will be replaced by Jaguars’ young receivers Keelan Cole, Dede Westbrook and Jaydon Mickens. Cole and Mickens already showed that they can be difference makers in the game against the Texans. Cole had seven receptions for 186 yards and a touchdown, while Mickens got two touchdowns which were also the first ones in his career.
