Playing at one of the highest demanding positions in football, running backs are usually not known for their longevity and continued high production as they get older. But Baltimore Ravens’ back Mark Ingram believes this won’t apply on him and that he’ll be able to play on a high level well into his 30ties.

Ingram, who turned 30 in December, had a chat with reporters on Tuesday and said that he’s feeling great and that he believes his game will remain strong for the next “four or five years.”

“I’m just blessed, and thankful the Lord has my body feeling this way,” said Ingram. “I’m with a great team that takes care of me, and I feel like I can play this game at a high level — at the highest level — for at least another four or five years. I feel like that. I honestly do.”

Ingram hopes that this longevity could elevate his career and afford him a memorable career.

“When you talk about running backs who had long, prestigious careers, I want to be in that discussion. I want to be talked about that way,” he added. “I just want to be the best player that I can be. I want to win championships, and I want to do it at a high level, and I feel like I can do that for a long time.”

Mark Ingram had a slow start to his professional career, but he managed to find success in recent years. Since 2016, he had three 1,000+ yards seasons, including 2019 in which he rushed for 1,018 yards and 10 touchdowns. Ingram also became a weapon in the passing game, getting five receiving TDs last season.

Two-time Pro Bowl running back Mark Ingram spent the first eight years of his NFL career with the New Orleans Saints, and it seemed like he was ready to extend his stay with the organization following the end of 2018. Saints felt the same way about Ingram, with head coach Sean Payton publicly saying the team wishes to keep the 29-year-old in early March.

Ingram, however, changed his mind when he hit free agency, and decided to agree to a three-year, $15 million contract with the Ravens. This naturally didn’t sit well with Payton, who recently said that this outcome was “frustrating” for him.

“It happened pretty quickly,” – explained Payton during Annual League Meeting in Phoenix. “Look, I’m excited for Mark’s opportunity. He’s been a tremendous, tremendous player for us and leader for us.”

“It was frustrating because I felt there was little dialogue,” – he added. “At least usually, I’m able to visit with the player, and I wasn’t able to, so the ends and outs specifically to how that unfolded still to me are a little bit cloudy. Tried texting him, tried calling him, direct message. He texted me back, and then the next day we weren’t able to speak.”

While New Orleans signed Latavius Murray to pair up with their star RB Alvin Kamara, it is clear to see why Payton might be a bit upset. Mark Ingram steadily improved his game since being drafted 28th overall in 2011 and delivered some big numbers in recent three years. He also complemented Kamara’s game in an ideal way with the pair becoming o the first teammate backfield duo in league’s history to have 1,500+ scrimmage yards each in a single season.

Kamara’s NFL career stats include 6,007 rushing yards and 50 rushing touchdowns alongside 228 receptions for 1,598 yards and five touchdowns.

Baltimore Ravens let several key players go during this offseason and it appeared like the team was oriented towards saving the money and try to get impactful players through the draft. But that all changed on Wednesday, when reports surfaced that Ravens will sign a duo of Pro Bowlers in former Seattle Seahawks’ safety Earl Thomas and New Orleans Saints’ running back Mark Ingram.

According to ESPN‘s Adam Schefter, Thomas will ink a four-year, $55 million contract with Baltimore that includes $32 million guaranteed. With his signing, the team fills one of their biggest needs at the safety position as they Eric Weddle.

Ingram, on the other hand, intends to sign a three-year, $15 million deal with the Ravens. The 29-year-old was expected to stay with the Saints following the end of 2018 season, but the team went and got former Minnesota Vikings RB Latavius Murray instead.

These two signings represent a big step in Baltimore Ravens’ efforts to rebuild their roster and make another playoff run in 2019. Besides releasing Weddle, the team also lost C.J. Mosley, Terrell Suggs and Za’Darius Smith in the free agency. All of these players were starters in Ravens’ defense which was ranked top in the NFL in 2018.

Earl Thomas spent his entire career with the Seattle Seahawks, but leaves the franchise on bad terms after he didn’t get a contract extension he wanted. He had a strong start of 2018 season, making three interceptions in the first four games, but ended up being ruled for the season after breaking a bone in his leg in Week 4. Thomas’ accomplishments with the Seahawks include six Pro Bowl appearances, three First-Team All-Pro honors and a Super Bowl title in 2013.

Mark Ingram played some excellent football in these past three seasons and  finished last year with respectable numbers, managing 645 rushing yards, 170 receiving yards and six touchdowns in 12 games. Still, Saints didn’t feel comfortable giving him a big deal due to his advanced age, making him look for better offers somewhere else. Ingram has two Pro Bowl appearances in his career.
