Mark Cuban expressed his satisfaction after selling a controlling stake in the Dallas Mavericks to the families who run the Las Vegas Sands casino company. Despite now being a minority owner, the deal allows Cuban to retain control of the franchise’s basketball operations.

“Nothing’s really changed except my bank account,” Cuban remarked, wrapping up a 3-point shooting session ahead of the Mav’s 110-113 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night. “I feel really good. I think it’s a great partnership. It’s what the team needed on the court and off. I’ll still be overseeing the basketball side of it, but having a partner like Patrick and Sivan and Miriam and their ability to build and to redevelop the arena and whatever comes next beyond that just puts us in a much better position to compete.”

In addition to overseeing basketball operations, Cuban will serve as the franchise’s alternate governor. Still, partner Patrick Dumont will serve as primary governor, meaning that he will have the final say on all operations including within Cuban’s domain. Cuban will retain a 27% stake in the Mavericks following the deal.

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has confirmed that his team will file a protest with the NBA over their 127-125 loss to the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night. This is due to confusion over who had possession of the ball in a move in the third quarter that led to an uncontested Warriors dunk.

“During the time out the official changed the call and never told us,” Cuban said in a Tweet. “Then when they saw us line up as if it were our ball, he just gave the ball to the warriors. Never said a word to us. They got an easy basketball. Crazy that it would matter in a 2-point game.” He went on to label the incident as the “worst officiating non-call mistake possibly in the history of the NBA.”

Crew chief Sean Wright argued against Cubans’ claim, stating that the refs did in fact signal that the ball was the Warriors. Despite Wright’s claim, Mavericks coach Jason Kidd insisted that this wasn’t the case, claiming that official Michael Smith must have thought that it was the Mavs’ ball judging by his positioning on the court.

According to the NBA Constitution, Cuban must file his claim within 48 hours of the game.

Kristaps Prozingis isn’t likely to play for the Dallas Mavericks for the remaining part of this season as he recovers from an ACL injury he suffered in February 2018.

Prozingis, 23, signed for the Mavericks on Tuesday after informing the Knicks he didn’t want to be part of their rebuilding team in New York. He was traded to Dallas in a monster deal that saw Dennis Smith Jr., Deandre Jordan, Wesley Matthew and two future first-round picks leave Dallas.

While Mavericks’ owner Mark Cuban admitted the Latvian player won’t be playing in the next few months, Dallas is committed to signing him to a long-term deal. Porzingis allegedly adores Luka Doncic and Dirk Nowitzki is his idol, two players Cuban hope will motivate the 23-year-old to commit his future to the team.

Doncic is averaging 20.4 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.4 assists despite being only 19 years of age. He’s also one of the best players in Dallas. Before his injury, Porzingis was also a rising star who averaged 22 points and made it to the All-Star game in just his third NBA season.

“We obviously think Porzingis is a great young talent, similar in many ways to Dirk,” Coach Rick Carlisle said of the Latvian upon his arrival in Dallas.

According to ESPN, Porzingis hasn’t yet decided whether he wants to commit his future to Dallas. If that’s the case, he’s allowed to sign a two year deal that will see him become a free agent in 2020.
