All-Pro corner Marcus Peters’ time with the Las Vegas Raiders has come to an end. According to The Athletic’s Vic Tafur, Peters was informed by the Raiders on Monday that he is being released.

Peters will now be placed on waivers while the Raiders save $1.5 million that the veteran was on pace to make.

After spending a better part of the offseason on the free agent market, Peters agreed to a one-year, $3 million deal with the Raiders in late July. He immediately became a starter and was expected to boost the team’s struggling secondary.

While Peters played the part to a point, including having an interception returned for a touchdown earlier in the season, his overall effort on defense was considered questionable. He was particularly sloppy in tackling assignments, causing the Raiders’ interim head coach, Antonio Pierce, to bench him in Sunday’s 17-31 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Speaking with reporters on Monday morning, Pierce confirmed that Peters won’t be part of the team moving forward.

“We decided to move forward,” said Pierce when asked about Peters. “Had a great conversation with (Peters) this morning. I will leave it at that.”

Reportedly, Peters’ lack of effort has put him in danger of being released even earlier in the offseason. Besides saving some money and moving from a player they believe wasn’t committed enough, the move gives the Las Vegas team the ability to give more playing time to veteran Jack Jones and rookie Jakorian Bennett and evaluate them for the next season.

In last year’s playoffs, Tennesee Titans star running back Derrick Henry ran wild against the Baltimore Ravens for 195 yards, knocking them out of the playoffs on their way to the AFC Championship Game.

The Ravens made sure that history wasn’t going to repeat itself in this year’s Super Wild-Card matchup.

The Baltimore defense dominated the line of scrimmage, holding Henry—who rushed for over 2,000 yards this season—to only 40 yards on 18 rushing attempts.

On offense, the Ravens rushing game excelled, led by star quarterback Lamar Jackson, who rushed for 136 yards and a touchdown on 16 attempts.

With Henry being taken out of the game completely, the Titans had to rely on the arm of quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who looked good leading the Titans offense in the first quarter, connecting numerous times with his Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Brown.

However, down 20-13 in the fourth quarter, Tannehill ended up throwing a costly interception, picked off by Ravens defensive back Marcus Peters, which sealed the win for the Ravens.

The Ravens will now head to Buffalo to face the Bills in the next round of the playoffs, while the Cleveland Browns, who upset the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, will face the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.

The Los Angeles Rams are expected to face the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday without top quarterbacks Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib. Both players suffered lower leg injuries last Sunday in the Rams’ 35-23 victory over the Chargers.

Linebacker Dominique Easley also suffered a knee injury, putting the Rams’ chances of extending their winning run to doubt.

If those guys aren’t able to go, it’s going to be some big voids that we’ve got to be ready to fill and set up,” Coach Sean McVay said.

Contrary to earlier reports, Peters suffered an injury to the calf and not his Achilles. The 25-year-old was helped off the field 6 minutes before the second quarter ended. After the match, the quarterback was spotted with a knee-high plastic boot covering his right leg.

Meanwhile, Talib suffered a high-ankle sprain and will likely be sidelined for at least one month. He left the locker room with a knee-high plastic boot on his left leg.

With three players injured and less than a week to the game, coach McVay will have to dig deep for good replacements. The Vikings have some of the best receivers in the league and look forward to ending Rams’ 3-0 winning run.

It has been reported on Friday that the Los Angeles Rams managed to make a trade for All-Pro cornerback Marcus Peters with the Kansas City Chiefs. The deal still can’t be processed until the start of the new league year on March 14, but according to ESPN‘s Adam Schefter, the Chiefs will receive a package of draft picks in exchange for Peters.

This seems like a great deal for the Rams, whose cornerback situation is far from ideal. They have placed the franchise tag on Trumaine Johnson in the past two years, and have slot corner Nickell Robey-Coleman lined up for the unrestricted free agency. Also, Kayvon Webster is dealing with Achilles tendon rupture since December. With Peters on their roster, the Rams can finally move on from Johnson who would cost them ten times more and give themselves cap-relief they need in order to sign their other restricted and unrestricted free agents.

Marcus Peters entered the league in 2015 when the Chiefs took him 18th overall in that year’s draft. He immediately broke onto the scene, and had a monster rookie season, being named into the Pro-Bowl, winning AP Defensive Rookie of the Year honors and finishing the year with eight interceptions and 26 passes defended. In 2016, he showed that his good games were not a coincidence, by being named into Pro-Bowl once again and receiving All-Pro honors. In 2017, he had 5 interceptions, which meant he was only the second player in NFL history to have three consecutive seasons with 5 or more interceptions in each.

Although the Rams got themselves an excellent player, there are some concerns with Peters’ character and behavior since he entered into conflict with both his college coaches and the Chiefs’ staff.
