Green Bay Packers finally added some badly-needed wide receiver depth to their roster. Packers claimed Travis Fulgham off waivers from Detroit Lions while also being close to finalizing a deal with former Seattle Seahawks wideout Malik Turner.

Fulgham was Lions’ sixth-round pick in 2019 but didn’t manage to make an impression in his first season in Detroit. He made an appearance in three games, spending just 63 total offensive snaps on the field and failing to record a single reception.

Packers, however, are probably hoping that the 24-year-old player can rediscover his form from college. Fulgham finished his senior year with Old Dominion with 63 catches for 1,083 yards and nine touchdowns.

Turner, on the other hand, hasn’t officially joined Green Bay, but the deal is reportedly imminent. The Illinois product worked out for Packers last week, and general manager Brian Gutekunst indicated that he is set to join the team after clearing out necessary protocols.

Turner played 15 games with Seattle in 2019, making three starts and finishing the year with 15 catches for 245 yards and one TD. The Seahawks placed an exclusive rights free agent tender on the player at the end of the season but ended rescinding it in April.

While adding Fulgham and Turner will benefit Packers’ depth, these moves won’t exactly help the team to get any closer to Super Bowl appearance. Green Bay was expected to draft a wideout in a WR-loaded draft this year, but the organization opted to take quarterback Jordan Love in the first round instead.

Seattle Seahawks had a change of hearts about wideout Malik Turner. According to ESPN’s Field Yates, Seahawks decided to withdraw the exclusive rights tender on Turner, making him a free agent.

With Turner being out of contract at the end of the season, Seahawks placed the exclusive rights tender on the player which stopped him from negotiating with other teams. The 24-year-old could either play out the year for a minimum salary with Seattle or sit out until 2021 to become an unrestricted free agent.

However, Seahawks ended up speeding up the process and sent Turner on the free-agent market right away.

Malik Turner joined the Seattle Seahawks in 2018 as an undrafted free agent out of Illinois. He only caught two passes for 20 yards in his rookie season but seemed on a good way to get a more significant role on the team.

Turner played 15 games in 2019, starting three of them, and was quite reliable when given a chance. He caught 15 passes out of 22 targets and finished the year with 245 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Everyone expected for Turner to make another step and become an important part of Seahawks’ offense in 2020, especially after receiving exclusive rights tender. However, for unknown reasons, Seattle decided to go in another direction, and Turner will now have to continue his NFL journey somewhere else.
