Philadelphia Eagles will probably have to play out the rest of 2019 without their most prized offseason addition in defensive tackle Malik Jackson. According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Jackson is expected to miss the entire season recovering from Lisfranc injury.

Jackson suffered the injury in Sunday’s game against Washington Redskins and is scheduled to have surgery next week. Eagles’ head coach Doug Peterson didn’t confirm that the 29-year-old Pro Bowler won’t play again this year, but acknowledged that the injury is “significant.”

“Malik’s an important part of what we do and we’ll certainly miss him when he’s on the field but we got plenty of guys that can step up and play and that’s nothing new in the NFL,” – said Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz on Tuesday.

“Doesn’t change our task from game-to-game and it doesn’t change our task over the course of the year. We’ll get him healthy and get him back. If I know Malik, he’ll do a good job staying engaged while he’s rehabbing. I’ve been really impressed with him as a professional, not just as a player but as a professional.”

Malik Jackson signed a three-year, $30 million contract with the Philadelphia Eagles in the offseason and was expected to become a key piece of the team’s D-Line. He spent the previous three years with Jacksonville Jaguars, totaling 18.0 sacks alongside 105 tackles and earning one Pro Bowl appearance.

Jackson also played with Denver Broncos between 2012 and 2015, helping the organization win the Super Bowl.

The Philadelphia Eagles have plugged one of their major defensive holes after agreeing to a three-year contract with defensive tackle Malik Jackson.

Jackson joins Philadelphia after spending the past three seasons as a member of the stout Jacksonville Jaguars defense. He played a key role in the interior defensive line and was named to his first career Pro Bowl in 2017 for his efforts.

He did see a slight decline in his performance last season, however. Jackson recorded 32 tackles and 3.5 sacks after posting 40 tackles and 8 sacks in the previous season.

The University of Tennessee alum started his career with the Denver Broncos, who drafted him in the 5th round of the 2012 NFL Draft.

Jackson’s work over the first 4 seasons of his career saw him sign a massive six-year, $85.5 million contract ($31.5 million guaranteed) with Jacksonville in 2016.

The Jaguars, who wanted to free up cap space in their pursuit of free agents this offseason, decided to release Jackson and allow him to become a free agent.

This was perfect for the Eagles, who needed to fill the absence created by Haloti Ngata’s departure. Jackson will immediately fill in as one of Philadelphia’s starting defensive tackles, adding quality to an already-formidable unit.

Jackson’s deal, while yet to be officially announced, is said to be for three years and up to $30 million.

Jacksonville Jaguars will look to make a big overhaul to their team in the near future after a disastrous 2018 season. Their defensive tackle Malik Jackson believes he will be affected with this as well and that his time in Jacksonville will soon be over.

In my mind, if I’m third or fourth on the depth chart making $14.5 million to $15 million, I don’t see too much future for me in Jacksonville,” – said Jackson on Wednesday. “I’m not trying to be a journeyman by any means. But it’s a business and soon as you try to forget that then it’s a rude awakening for sure.

After winning a Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos, Jackson joined the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2016 as a free agent, signing a massive six-year, $85.5 million deal. After a solid first season with the organization, he managed to get eight sacks in 2017 and earn a Pro Bowl selection. The 2018 season, however, didn’t go the same way, since he just has one sack in 13 games played.

If Jags decide to cut Malik Jackson after the season ends, they will save $11 million in cap space while taking a $4 million hit. Since this would make a lot of sense for Jacksonville, Jackson knows he has to put in maximum effort in the last three games to get the attention of other NFL teams who could potentially pursue him in the offseason.

With my situation, I’m playing for 31 other teams potentially,” – the 29-year-old explained. “I have to show these teams that I’m playing at a high level. I’m a pass rusher with one sack. So I have to show this team that I’m consistently still getting to the quarterback, but I’m just not finishing. So for me, I have to show a lot of people a lot of things about who I am and what I am and what I’m continuing trying to build for myself.

This may be the sweetest story of the year, in more ways than one. Me & The Bees Lemonade was founded by 12-year-old Makaila Ulmer. What’s happened since is the stuff beyond the dreams of your average preteen.

The Founding Of A Lemonade Behemoth

Mikaila was just four years old when she was stung twice by a bee. The precocious youngster was naturally baffled by being stung and resolved to learn all that she could about bees.

What she learned left her with a brand new set of priorities for her life. She found that bees are an essential part of the ecosystem and that, without bees, there would be no life on earth. She also discovered that bees are not having the happiest time in the modern world and that some species are even under the threat of extinction.

While many children might not have been able to envision such a future, Mikaila could see it clearly and she was determined to save the bees. She chose her great-grandmother’s lemonade recipe, which uses with flax seed and honey, to raise funds for her cause.

The Minor Leagues

Mikaila appeared on Shark Tank in 2015. At the age of just 10, she not only managed to get through the show’s demanding entry and pitching process, but she succeeded in raising $60,000 of investment.

That led to an invitation to meet President Barack Obama in the White House to discuss her success. She was then named one of the Movement 50 Top 10 Innovators of the Year at SXSW.

Using her own initiative, she also landed a deal to distribute her lemonade at Whole Foods stores across the country—a task that has defeated more than one grown-up supplier over the years.

To build on her success, though, she needed more money to keep the company moving in the right direction.

Arian Foster says: “Of course, any time you invest in anything, you look at if it’s going to be profitable. We look for companies that match our main focus of developing a good product but are also good people and do it for the right reasons. It’s more than about money to us. We believe that investing in small black businesses is extremely important.”

Which is why he and other NFL players (Texan, Glover Quin, Duane Brown, Jonathan Grimes, Omar Bolden, Bobby Wagner, Darius Slay, Sherrick McManis, EJ Manuel, Malik Jackson, Nick Martin and Lameck Lukanga) have just pumped $810,000 into Mikaila’s business.

Mikaila learned of this at the “Been Brilliant Entrepreneur Day” at her local Boys & Girls Club. As you might expect, she’s pretty pleased with the results.

“I’m very happy that I’m able to work with them and they invested in my company—and them helping us and mentoring us and believing in our mission, I think we have a better chance of achieving our goals. That keeps me pumped and excited every day.”

12 years old with over a million dollars raised in investments? Mikaila has a very bright future in front of her indeed!
