Boston Celtics’ inability to trade Malcolm Brogdon earlier in the offseason reportedly didn’t sit all that well with the veteran point guard. While making an appearance on the Celtics Beat podcast last week, The Boston Globe’s Gary Washburn revealed that Brogdon is now “angry” with the Celtics and isn’t communicating with the team.

Brogdon was set to be traded to the Los Angeles Clippers back in June as part of the trade that would land Kristaps Porzingis in Boston. However, the Clippers decided not to greenlit the deal due to concerns about Brogdon’s health. The Celtics ended up reworking the trade by sending Marcus Smart to the Memphis Grizzlies.

“Malcolm is the one I’m concerned about, because we’ve heard nothing, and he’s angry with the team,” Washburn said when discussing the Celtics. “So I don’t think communication between the two sides has been fruitful … He hasn’t talked all summer.”

After trading Smart, the Celtics have made a U-turn, rejecting several trade offers for Brogdon in the last couple of months. It remains to be seen whether this does anything to repair what seems to be a damaged relationship.

Malcolm Brogdon played 67 games with the Celtics in 2022-23, averaging 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.

The Boston Celtics are reportedly finalizing a trade that will see them land big man Kristaps Porzingis from the Washington Wizards. It is a three-way trade that also includes the Memphis Grizzlies.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Celtics will get Porzingis, 2023 first-round pick (No. 25), and 2024 first-round pick (via Golden State; top-four protected), while sending guard Marcus Smart to the Grizzlies. The Wizards will receive Tyus Jones, Danilo Gallinari, Mike Muscala and the No. 35 selection in the 2023 NBA Draft.

The teams are still working on the finer details of the deal, as Porzingis needs to opt into his player option for 2023-24 for the trade to come through. The 27-year-old player’s option is worth $36 million.

The Wizards and the Celtics previously had a similar trade in the works, which included sending Malcolm Brogdon to the Los Angeles Clippers. However, the LA team decided to pull the breaks on the deal due to concerns about Brogdon’s health.

This move makes a lot of sense for Boston, considering that their starting power forward Al Horford is not getting any younger. Porzingis is a better offensive player than Horford and has shown that he can play outstanding defense when he wants to. Porzingis also gives the Celtics more positional versatility, as he can successfully play the center position.

Porzingis struggled to stay healthy in some previous seasons but managed to play 65 games this past season, which is the most since his sophomore year in the league. He finished the campaign averaging career-high 23.2 points alongside 8.4 rebounds and 1.2 blocks.

The Wizards, on the other hand, continue tearing down their team. They have previously traded franchise star Bradley Beal and moving on from Porzingis signals that the team is in a full rebuild. Washington will now get a promising player in Jones and more draft capital.

Finally, the Grizzlies solidify their point guard position with Smart. The former NBA Defensive Player of the Year complements nicely with their star Ja Morant, being able to step in for Moran when he rests or play on the wing.

The Boston Celtics opted to pass on the free agency so far, but that doesn’t mean they won’t have an upgraded roster next season. According to multiple reports, the Celtics made a trade with the Indiana Pacers that saw them acquire point guard Malcolm Brogdon.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Celtics had to give up a 2023 first-rounder and five players in order to land Brogdon. Players heading to Indiana are veteran center Daniel Theis, second-year player Aaron Nesmith, and benchwarmers Nik Stauskas, Malik Fitts and Juwan Morgan.

Brogdon, who was an NBA Rookie of the Year in 2017, dealt with Achilles issues last season and only managed to play 36 games. However, he still managed to have a solid year that saw him average 19.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 5.9 assists.

It is easy to see why the Celtics made this deal. After a disappointing meltdown in the NBA Finals this year, it was clear that the team needs more playmaking in their backcourt. Brogdon should provide just that while also bringing reliable shooting and consistent effort on a night-to-night basis.

The Pacers, on the other hand, are doubling down on their rebuild. They can now give the ball to their young guard Tyrese Haliburton while getting assets that they can turn into more talent later on.

The 2019 NBA free agency was full of surprising moves and unexpected twists. One of those twists was 2017’s NBA Rookie of the Year Malcolm Brogdon deciding to leave Milwaukee Bucks and join Indiana Pacers. As it turns out, however, this wasn’t entirely Brogdon’s decision.

Brogdon returned to Milwaukee on Sunday to face the Bucks with his new team and was asked by reporters to give a bit of insight into his departure. According to the 27-year-old, he would have loved to stay with the franchise that drafted him “if they had wanted him.”

“I would’ve loved to play for this team, if they had wanted me. If they had valued me the way the Pacers value me. That’s all I gotta say,” said Brogdon.

Brogdon was a restricted agent this summer, and Bucks opted against offering him a deal he wanted in order to avoid the luxury tax. He explored different options before landing in Indiana via the sign-and-trade deal.

“I had a pretty good inkling that things may not work out and things may not go in the direction that I thought they were going to go in, so I started to change my mindset and started to identify different teams and prepare myself,” he added.

Malcolm Brogdon is having a great season and is proving to the Milwaukee Bucks that they have made a big mistake. Brogdon is currently one of Pacers’ key players and has career-highs all across the board. In 26 games he played this season, he averages 18.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 7.6 assists per game.

We saw Milwaukee Bucks spend big money in free agency to keep Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez on their roster for years to come. But, it turns out Bucks’ spending spree reached its limits pretty quickly as they decided to let Malcolm Brogdon walk away.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania reports that Brogdon, who was a restricted free agent, reached a four year, $85 million deal with the Indiana Pacers. The 2017’s NBA Rookie of the Year isn’t coming to Indiana for free, however, as the Pacers agreed to send 2020 first-round pick and two future second-rounders to Milwaukee as part of the agreement.

Despite Brogdon’s success in the past three seasons, Bucks decided they could not meet the player’s demands in terms of a contract extension. With $178 million invested in Middleton and $52 million tied to Lopez, Milwaukee would be deep in the luxury tax and would lose salary flexibility if they were to pay Brogdon as well.

Malcolm Brogdon made 64 starts with the Bucks in the previous season, managing to average 15.6 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. He also shot 50.5 percent from the field, 42.6 percent from the 3-point line and made 92.8 percent of his free throws, which placed him in an exclusive 50/40/90 club.
