After a disappointing NLDS playoff exit in which the Braves’ starting pitching woes were exposed, it appears that the 2018 and 2019 NL East Champions will look to improve their starting rotation in the free-agent market this offseason.

According to media reports, Atlanta is reportedly targeting former San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner as they head into the baseball offseason.

Bumgarner, the four-time All Star and 2014 World Series MVP, finds himself testing the free-agent waters for the first time in his career at the age of 30. The North Carolina native has long been rumored to be going to Atlanta, the team in closest proximity to his home.

The big lefty has long been considered one of baseball’s top starting pitchers, establishing himself as a top of the rotation arm since his MLB debut in 2009.

His numbers in the regular season are good, as he has compiled a 119-92 record with a career 3.13 ERA. His postseason numbers, however, are out of this world, with a career 2.11 ERA in 102.1 innings pitched.

The Braves are looking for an established, top-of-the-line starter to pair with young talents such as Mike Soroka and Max Fried, and it appears that they will land Bumgarner if their wishes come true.
