Although the Los Angeles Lakers’ star LeBron James continues to play at a high level in his 21st season in the NBA, he knows that his time in the league is coming to an end sooner rather than later.

James delivered an impressive performance in a 116-104 win over the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday night, scoring 40 points and making a career-high nine three-pointers. When asked how much longer he intends to play after the game, James admitted that he doesn’t have too much time left.

“Not very long,” James said. “I’m on the other side, obviously, of the hill. So I’m not going to play another 21 years, that’s for damn sure. But not very long. I don’t know what or when that door will close as far as when I retire, but I don’t have much time left.”

The Nets’ game saw James becoming only the second player to have multiple 40-point games at the age of 39. Michael Jordan had three 40-point games at the same age.

James is currently averaging 25.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 8.1 assists per game while shooting a career-high 41.6% from behind the arc. The Lakers are currently sitting at No. 9 in the Western Conference standings with a 42-33 record and seven wins from their last 10 games.

The Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James says there is no reason for concern even though he was forced to exit a 130-120 loss to the Sacramento Kings early and did so while limping.

James had 31 points, five rebounds, and 13 assists against the Kings before heading to the locker room with 3:56 left on the clock. At that point, the Lakers were looking at a 14-point deficit despite leading by 19 after the first quarter.

Speaking with reporters after the game, James said that he was bothered by his ankle, a recurring issue he has been dealing with for quite some time.

“I’ll be all right,” James said. “It’s just my ankle. It’s just what I’ve been dealing with before the [All-Star] break, after the break. I’m just managing it the best way I can.”

Sources close to the Lakers later told ESPN’s Dave McMenamin that James’ ankle issues are simply a result of “wear and tear” from his long career. He is currently in his 21st season in the NBA and has played 1,477 regular-season games and 282 playoff games.

James has managed to stay relatively healthy this season and is currently in place to play the most games since 2019-20. He is currently averaging 25.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 8.0 assists per game.

The Los Angeles Lakers will honor the late franchise legend Kobe Bryant with three statues situated in front of the team’s Crypto.com Arena. The Lakers unveiled the first of those statues earlier this week during a ceremony attended by Bryant’s widow, Vanessa.

The 19-foot statue features Bryant wearing a No. 8 jersey and pointing his finger up in the air while being surrounded by five NBA championship trophies. It captures the moment as Bryant walked away from the court after the 2006 game versus the Toronto Raptors, in which he scored 81 points.

“For the record, Kobe picked the pose you’re about to see,” Vanessa said as the statue was about to be revealed. “… This moment isn’t just for Kobe, but it’s for all of you who have been rooting for him all of these years.”

Considering that Bryant’s Hall of Fame career was filled with big moments and amazing achievements, the Lakers and Vanessa couldn’t settle on just one statute. Together, they made a decision to have three statutes in order to better capture Bryant’s legacy.

The second statue will show Bryant wearing the No.24 jersey, while the third one will feature him alongside his daughter Gianna. The unveiling date for the remaining two statues is yet to be determined.

“When I found out there was going to be three statues, I just said, ‘That’s fitting,’” said Lakers’ general manager and Bryant’s longtime agent Rob Pelinka. “Because it’s just how the City of Angels feels about Kobe. He deserves something that no other athlete that’s ever played here deserves.”

The Los Angeles Lakers just can’t shake off the injury bug. Their forward Cam Reddish is dealing with an ankle sprain and is set to miss at least two weeks.

Reddish got hurt in a 127-116 loss to the LA Clippers on Tuesday. He attempted to contest a three-point attempt by James Harden and landed on the Clippers guard’s foot, rolling his ankle in the process. Reddish ended up returning to the game, but obviously, the injury was more severe than originally thought.

According to Lakers’ beat reporter Mike Trudell, Reddish will be reevaluated in two weeks and will miss the Lakers’ upcoming six-game road trip.

Reddish signed with the Lakers to a veteran minimum contract in the offseason and emerged as a valuable role player. He is averaging 6.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.2 steals while also providing stout defense. The LA team is already short on impactful defenders, so Reddish’s absence will likely be notable.

The Lakers have just recently become healthy after dealing with a number of injuries to start the season. They still miss point guard Gabe Vincent, who hasn’t played since December, while forward Maxwell Lewis is day-to-day due to illness.

The Lakers, who went 6-4 in their last 10 games, currently sit at No. 9 in the Western Conference with a 23-23 record.

The Los Angeles Lakers are no longer one of the suitors for Chicago Bulls’ All-Star Zach LaVine. According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, the Lakers are out of the LaVine sweepstakes and are instead looking to upgrade on the point guard position.

It was previously reported that LaVine and the Bulls agreed to explore trade options, with the Lakers being mentioned as a strong suitor. However, the talks between the two teams never got off the ground, and the LA team is now shifting their focus to other targets.

During his appearance on Sports Center, McMenamin said that LaVine to the Lakers trade is “not happening”.

“Laker fans, if you’re thinking about the UCLA Bruin coming back to Los Angeles to help this team, don’t count on it. You’re gonna look at the Lakers serving the market for point guard help,” said McMenamin.

McMenamin mentioned several names that the Lakers could pursue instead, including Washington Wizards’ Tyus Jones and Utah Jazz’s Collin Sexton.

Many analysts believe that Zach LaVine was never a good fit for the Lakers due to his shoot-first mentality and below-average defense. The Lakers would be better off with someone who can take a back seat on offense while stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis run the show while being engaged on the other side of the ball.

The Lakers are currently 10th in the Western Conference with a 21-21 record and 9.0 games behind the first-placed Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Los Angeles Lakers are in free fall. They suffered a 110-96 to the Miami Heat on Wednesday night to drop below .500 and slide to No. 10 on the Western Conference standings with a 17-18 record.

This was the Lakers’ third straight defeat, and they have now suffered nine losses in their past 12 games.

The Lakers haven’t been very competitive against the Heat, turning the ball over 20 times and making only four of their 30 three-point tries. Two of their starters for the night, Taurean Prince and Cam Reddish, finished scoreless while superstar LeBron James only had 12 points, his lowest since the 2023-24 season started.

Anthony Davis, who was the Lakers’ best player on the court with 29 points and 17 rebounds, said after the game that the Lakers need to “figure” stuff out in order to change their fortunes.

“It’s a little bit of everything right now and if we keep on this trend, it’s not going to be good for us,” Davis said. “It’s kind of obvious that we’ve got to figure it out sooner than later.”

The LA Lakers will be hoping that the return of Rui Hachimura and D’Angelo Russell, who are out with injuries, can provide them a spark and help right the ship. They are also expected to be active on the trade market, with names like Chicago Bulls’ All-Star Zach LaVine and Atlanta Hawks’ guard Dejounte Murray being linked with the franchise in trade rumors.

The Atlanta Hawks are in the midst of another disappointing season and are expected to be sellers at the NBA trade deadline. The player they are reportedly open to moving is All-Star point guard Dejounte Murray, who is already attracting interest from the Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania recently discussed the Lakers’ trade targets and mentioned Murray as a player of interest. According to Charania, Murray represents an alternative for the LA team if their pursuit of Chicago Bulls’ Zach LaVine doesn’t come to fruition.

The one issue for the Lakers is that they lack draft assets to present the Hawks with a credible offer that doesn’t include standout shooting guard Austin Reaves.

On the other hand, Ian Begley of SNY reports that Murray is a target for the Knicks. The New York team already tried to get Murray before the San Antonio Spurs sent him to Atlanta during the 2022 offseason. They still have interest in the 27-year-old player, viewing him as an ideal fit alongside their guard Jalen Brunson.

If the Knicks decide to make a run for Murray, they will have no trouble matching the Hawks’ asking price. The Knicks have a surplus of draft picks they gained in previous trades while also being able to sweeten the offer with several young players.

Murray is averaging 20.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 1.6 steals per game this season. The Hawks currently find themselves at No. 11 in the Eastern Conference with a 12-17 record.

The Los Angeles Lakers are heading to the final of the inaugural NBA in-season tournament after decimating the New Orleans Pelicans 133-89 in their semifinal clash on Thursday night.

39-year-old LeBron James proved that he remains on top form despite his age, scoring 30 points and providing eight assists and five rebounds on the night. “If you decide to retire, or whatever the case may be, you’re not a part of it anymore, so it wouldn’t be me leaving it on the table because I would have never had the table set,” James commented after the game, concluding: “But I’m happy that I’m here; this is a pretty cool moment, and let’s see if we can capitalize on it. It’s been good. It’s been dope.”

Following their emphatic win, the Lakers will face the Indiana Pacers, who defeated the Milwaukee Bucks 128-119. Tyrese Haliburton is one to watch, scoring 27 points in the Pacers’ semifinal win, while Myles Turner followed closely with a 26-point contribution.

The Los Angeles Lakers just can’t get rid of the injury bug. According to Dan Woike of The Los Angeles Times, Lakers’ forward Rui Hachimura underwent surgery to repair nasal fracture and will be out indefinitely.

Hachimura suffered the injury during a 101-104 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday. The 25-year-old player is expected to be re-evaluated in one week, after which the Lakers will provide an update on his return to action.

This represents a tough blow for the Lakers, considering that Hachimura was one of the team’s most important bench players this season. The 2019 ninth-overall pick has been averaging 11.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.0 assists so far in 2023-24. Hachimura missed four games earlier this season due to a concussion.

Hachimura’s injury is just one of the latest blows for a Lakers team that is trying to navigate an underwhelming start to the campaign. The LA team has a long injury list at the moment that includes guard Gabe Vincent, who won’t return for at least two more weeks due to a knee issue. Wing Jarred Vanderbilt is dealing with a heel injury and is still several days from returning to action, while Cam Reddish is listed day-to-day with a groin injury.
