The New York Giants pass rush, which is already almost nonexistent, is going to be without one of its leaders for the remainder of the season.

The team has confirmed that starting linebacker Lorenzo Carter suffered a ruptured Achilles in Sunday’s loss against the Dallas Cowboys and will be out for the year. Carter is expected to undergo surgery in the coming days.

The 24-year-old linebacker out of Georgia was in his third season and showed great potential on a team that just doesn’t have that many skilled pass rushers. In the first five games of the season, he registered one sack, four quarterback hits, and 15 tackles. In 2019, Carter had four sacks and 13 quarterback hits.

Expected to take his place in the rotation is Markus Golden, who was the Giants’ best pass rusher in 2019, registering 10 sacks. However, the new coaching staff doesn’t appear to be very high on Golden, who wasn’t getting much playing time before Carter’s injury.

Another player that the Giants hoped would become one of their leaders on defense, 2019 third-round linebacker Oshane Ximines, is on injured reserve and there have been no reports on when the Giants expect him back on the field.

New York is currently 0-5 on the season, but the defense has performed better than most expected under first-year coordinator Patrick Graham.
