It appears that Leroy Sane’s soccer future is away from Manchester City. According to Man City’s manager Pep Guardiola, Sane will definitely leave the club after he refused to extend his deal.

Sane has a contract until the summer of 2021, but Guardiola says German winger might change clubs even earlier.

“Leroy said he doesn’t want to extend the contract so it means he wants to leave and it’s going to happen this summer or at the end of the contract,” Guardiola told reporters in a recent video call.

According to Guardiola, Sane was offered an extension multiple times, but rejected the opportunity to commit his future to the Premier League side.

 “The club talked to me and he’s been offered two or three times to extend his contract and he rejected so he wants to play for another club,” he added.

Leroy Sane was linked with a move away from Etihad Stadium for some time now, with Bayern Munich being mentioned as his most likely destination. Reportedly, Bayern even had an offer accepted by City last summer but the move collapsed after Sane tore his ACL during FA Community Shield game.

Sane arrived to Man City in 2016 from Bundesliga side Schalke, and has since made 134 appearances with the club. He contributed with 34 goals, while helping City to win seven trophies including two consecutive Premier League trophies.

German star winger Leroy Sane was close to leaving Manchester City in the summer, but a knee injury made him remain in Premier League this season. However, according to Sane’s agent Damir Smoljan, this didn’t cause interested teams to change their mind about his client.

Speaking with German outlet Bild, Smoljan said that there a number of “absolute top clubs” are trying to acquire Sane including Bundesliga giant Bayern Munich.

“Together with him, we talk with Manchester City about what the next step could look like,” said Smoljan. “The interest of Bayern Munich is no secret. But other absolute top clubs also contacted us about Leroy.”

Bayern has been trying to get Sane for some time now and was reportedly very close to finalizing a deal last year. The deal failed due to the 24-year-old’s injury, but the German side might attempt again in the next transfer window. The player himself also seems interested in returning to his native country.

“Bayern is the only club in Germany that Leroy can imagine as the next step in his career,” Smoljan added. “He sees there the requirements for achieving his big goal of winning the Champions League.”
