Miami Dolphins have entered the 2018 NFL season with an intention to make significant changes to their roster. After previously trading wide receiver Jarvis Landry to the Cleveland Browns, the Dolphins now announce that they have released their defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and tight end Julius Thomas.

Ndamukong Suh joined the Miami Dolphins in 2015, signing a six-year, $114 million contract and becoming the highest paid defensive player in the league at the moment. He didn’t manage to justify the money invested in him, however, making just one Pro-Bowl appearance and failing to have more than 6.0 sacks during his three seasons with the team. He was also a part of the defense that ended 29th in run defense and 26th in sacks in the 2017 season. With his release, the Dolphins got a large contract off their books and saved $3.9 million in cap space. If they were to release him in June, the team could have saved $17 million against the cap.

Julius Thomas, on the other side, spent just one season with the team, after being acquired from the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was featured in 14 games in 2017 season, and had 41 receptions for 388 yards, adding three touchdowns in the process.

Miami Dolphins also released linebacker Lawrence Timmons, who joined the team in 2017, signing a two-year deal worth $12 million. Before joining Dolphins, Timmons was a member of Pittsburgh Steelers for 10 years during which he had 677 tackles and 35.5 sacks. His game didn’t translate well in Miami since Timmons managed only 58 tackles and three passes defended.

Besides making these cuts, Miami Dolphins have officially confirmed the acquisition of defensive end Robert Quinn from the Los Angeles Rams. The Dolphins sent a 2018 fourth-round draft pick and agreed to swap sixth-round picks with the Rams in exchange for Quinn.

After Miami Dolphins suspended him indefinitely on September 19, 2017, for going AWOL, Lawrence Timmons was reinstated by the team on Tuesday.

I just want to say sorry to all the fans, the Miami Dolphins, to everyone,” Timmons said to the reporters. “Happy to be back here. Sorry to the organization. I’m just happy to be a Miami Dolphin. I just want to play football and be the best I can.

His apologies had a warm reception with Dolphins head coach Adam Gase saying that Timmons did everything he needed to do in order to get back to the team.

I mean that’s just … that’s something I’m just keeping in-house right now. We just worked through a couple of things. L.T.’ (Lawrence Timmons) handled the business he needed to handle and I’m glad he’s back.” – commented Gase on the Timmons’ return.

He’s well-liked in the locker room, so guys are happy to see him back,” – added Dolphins’ QB Jay Cutler.

For those of you unfamiliar with the situation, Lawrence Timmons went missing on the night before the game against the Los Angeles Chargers. The team representatives discovered that Timmons wasn’t in his hotel room, and after failing to get ahold of him, they have filed a missing person report. Next morning, police found Timmons on LAX, trying to get on the plane to Pennsylvania. According to the sources, Timmons wanted to visit his child. Dolphins only revealed that Timmons was dealing with a “personal matter” and that he was going to meet with the doctors.

While talking with Timmons, reporters tried to find the real reason for him going missing, but Timmons avoided answering their questions. Coach Gase also isn’t keen on talking about the incident. Some reporters like ESPN’s Jeff Darlington are claiming that the Gase is trying to keep everything private.

Miami Dolphins have revealed on their official Twitter account that they have suspended their linebacker Lawrence Timmons indefinitely.

Although the Dolphins didn’t reveal the reasons for Timmons’ suspension, it is most likely because the player went AWOL on Saturday. TMZ reports that this caused the Dolphins to file a missing report with the police. The Dolphins had a guest game against the Los Angeles Chargers and were stationed in the hotel in Southern California. After a routine check of the players, it was discovered that Timmons wasn’t in his hotel room. The team tried to find the player by contacting his family and friend, ultimately filing a missing report. Timmons was found on Saturday morning on LAX waiting to board a plane to Pennsylvania. Ultimately he returned with the team. TMZ’s sources say that the reason was Timmons’ wish to see his baby.

Sources of ESPN’s Adam Schefter have revealed that Timmons was dealing with a “personal matter” and that he was going to meet with the doctors on Monday. Schefter also revealed that Lawrence Timmons is “doing much better” and “wants to resume playing immediately“.

By missing the Dolphins’ 19-17 win against the Chargers, Timmons broke his streak of 101 consecutive starts in the NFL. Playing college football at Florida State, Lawrence Timmons was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round of 2007 NFL Draft with the 15th overall pick. During his 10 seasons with the Steelers, Timmons helped the team to Super Bowl XLIII championship, while earning Pro Bowl and second-team All-Pro honors in 2017. During his NFL career, he had 981 tackles, 35.5 quarterback sacks, 12 interceptions and 1 touchdown. In March 2017, Timmons signed a 2 year deal with the Miami Dolphins worth $12 million. Since the Dolphins’ Week 1 game was postponed due to Hurricane Irma, Timmons is still to make a debut for Miami Dolphins.
