Minnesota United is adding some veteran presence to their roster ahead of 2019 MLS season. The team announced on Friday that they have signed MLS veteran defender/midfielder Lawrence Olum, who will join the team on a one-year deal.

Olum, who turns 35 in July, spent the 2018 season with Portland Timbers and played 26 matches while contributing one goal.

Minnesota confirmed their new acquisition via post on their social media.

“It’s a nice story to have another player that’s worked with Adrian for many years, as well as played in this market for us years ago,” – said Minnesota’s sporting director Manny Lagos in a statement. “He adds a lot of good depth and a veteran leadership to the middle of the field.”

Lawrence Olum started his professional career with USL Premier Development League side St. Louis Lions in 2006 and had stints with several USL First Division teams before making a move to MLS and signing with Sporting Kansas City in 2011. After three seasons with SKC, Olum moved to Kedah FA in the Malaysia Premier League in 2015 but spent just one season in Malaysia before returning to MLS. Olum is also Kenyan international and has made four appearances for country’s senior team since 2014.
