The Vegas Golden Knights have advanced to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs for the second time in three years after defeating the Winnipeg Jets in a five-game series. The Golden Knights secured their spot in the second round with a 4-1 victory against the Jets at the T-Mobile Arena on Thursday night.

Chandler Stephenson opened the scoring for the Golden Knights before captain Mark Stone doubled their lead. William Karlsson then scored a third before Stephenson grabbed his second of the night to make it 4-0 before the end of the second period.

“It’s not easy,” Golden Knights center Jack Eichel observed on the team’s postgame radio broadcast. We came out, got a lead early, thought we played with it and took advantage of some opportunities we had. We got contributions everywhere, and it was good to see.”

Las Vegas will face the winner between the Edmonton Oilers and the Los Angeles Kings. The Oilers have a 3-2 series lead and will secure progression to the second round with a win on Saturday.

Vegas Golden Knights captain Mark Stone will be sidelined for an undisclosed period after undergoing back surgery, the team announced on Wednesday.

Stone’s surgery comes after the left winger was injured on January 12 within four minutes of the 4-2 win over the visiting Florida Panthers. Shortly after Stone began his rehabilitation, it was determined that the player would require surgery. This is the second time in the space of a year that the Golden Knights captain has required back surgery, having undergone a lumbar discectomy in May.

With Stone no longer available for the playoffs, Las Vegas remains in a strong position, having gone 17-7-1 including a nine-game winning streak in November. Along with new coach Bruce Cassidy’s tactics, the Golden Knights have also vastly improved thanks to the standout performance by rookie-turned-All-Star Logan Thompson.

The Golden Knights’ recent form has declined, however, with the team going 2-6-2 in their previous 10 outings. Currently, the team sits in third place in the Pacific Division, currently holding onto the first of two Western Conference wild-card spots.

Prior to his injury, Stone had enjoyed an impressive season, scoring 38 points (17 goals and 21 assists) to put himself second in the team’s rankings.

The Las Vegas Golden Knights defenceman Alex Pietrangelo has confirmed that he will be unavailable for an indefinite period due to an illness in his family, the team announced on Wednesday. Pietrangelo, who has already missed four games as a result of this issue, was moved to the Golden Knights’ non-roster list.

“The Vegas Golden Knights wholeheartedly support Alex and the Pietrangelos and ask that the family’s privacy be respected at this time,” the team’s statement on the matter read. Currently, there is no timeline for the defenceman’s return to the team.

Speaking at a news conference Wednesday, Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy emphasized his support for Pietrangelos, stating that he believes in the player and trusts that the defenceman will return to action when he is ready to do so. So far this season, Pietrangelos has played in 23 games, scoring three goals and 21 points.

Pietrangelos previously stepped back from the sport in 2018 when his niece was diagnosed with a Wilms’ tumor, which is a rare kidney cancer primarily found in children, from which she ultimately recovered.

In Pietragelos’ absence, the Golden Knights will look toward Shea Theodore, Alec Martinez, and Brayden McNabb to fill his shoes.

The Vegas Golden Knights have been in the Stanley Cup playoffs every time since their inaugural season in 2017–18. But that won’t be the case this season as the Golden Knights are officially out of the postseason contention after a 4-3 shootout loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday night.

The game against the Blackhawks was crucial for Golden Knights’ playoff hopes. First, they had to beat the Blackhawks and then wait to see whether the Dallas Stars would lose to Arizona Coyotes in regulation. Unfortunately for Vegas, neither happened, and their playoff streak came to a disappointing end.

Golden Knights had a promising start to the 2021-22 NHL season, owning a 28-16-3 record at one point. But a series of injuries and sluggish performances caused them to feel off a cliff, and they only managed a 14-15-5 record from that point on. They are set to finish the regular season at the fourth spot in the Pacific Division.

In their inaugural season, Golden Knights reached the Stanley Cup finals, where they lost in five games against the Washington Capitals. This made them the only third NHL team to reach this stage in their first season. Vegas followed this up by exit in the First Round in 2018-19, Conference Finals appearance in 2019-20, and Stanley Cup Semifinals appearance last season.

The Las Vegas Golden Knights currently find themselves dealing with an injury crisis, as captain Mark Stone and forward Max Pacioretty are the latest to be ruled unavailable for the team’s clash with the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday. Both players were injured during the Golden Knights’ 6-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings last Thursday.

Stone, who is reported to have suffered a “lower-body injury”, is being monitored on a day-to-day basis, with his return date currently unknown. Pacioretty, on the other hand, is week-to-week, having suffered a broken foot during Friday’s loss.

Both losses have had a major impact on the Golden Knights going into their next game. While Stone has been a crucial leader for the Golden Knights, Pacioretty was the team’s leading scorer last season with 21 points.

These injuries are in addition to that of forward Alex Tuch, who is expected to remain unavailable until late February after undergoing surgery in July.

Rookies Jake Leschyshyn and Jonas Rondbjerg were placed in the team during the clash with the Kings, both making their professional NHL debuts.

Currently, the Golden Knights find themselves in seventh place in the Central Division of the Eastern Conference, with only the Calgary Flames below them.

Las Vegas Raiders goalie Robin Lehner took to Twitter on Saturday to express his frustration over what he considers to be “medical malpractice” on part of the NHL. He took particular issue with the league’s medical practitioners offering benzodiazepines and Ambien to players without prescriptions.

Lehner told ESPN that he decided to go public with his concerns in order to raise awareness of the surgery issues between former teammate Jack Eichel and the Buffalo Sabres.

The frustrated Swedish goalie made the following statement on the matter: “I’ve made crazy amount of mistakes, but lying about what I’ve seen for 12 years is not one of them. I don’t care what they say I don’t lie about these things. I’ll keep going. Have stored stories for a year. Watch now when NHL will try to cancel me.”

Lehner maintains that the Las Vegas Knights are not one of the teams that engage in this practice. He does, however, insist that some of his former teams are guilty of unethical behavior medically.

The 24-year-old Eichel has been out of action since March after incurring a herniated disk in his neck.

The Las Vegas Golden Knights have agreed to a 7-year contract worth $8.8 million per year with star defenseman Alex Pietrangelo.

Pietrangelo, who has been with the St. Louis Blues since being drafted by them fourth overall in the 2008 draft, was one of the prized free agents of the 2020 offseason.

The deal is worth a total of $61.6 million. Since Pietrangelo’s $8.8 million per year contract is going to eat up a lot of cap space, the Golden Knights had to make some moves to clear some money before signing him.

They traded defenseman Nate Schmidt to the Vancouver Canucks to free up $5.95 million and sent center Paul Stastny to the Winnipeg Jets.

Expect the Golden Knights to make a few more money-saving moves this offseason, like getting rid of goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury.

Pietrangelo has been a captain in St. Louis since 2016 and was an integral piece on the roster that won the franchise’s first ever Stanley Cup in 2019.

Despite being 30, he had a career-high 16 goals in the 2019-2020 season, adding 36 assists in just 70 games. The Blues were eliminated in the Western Conference quarterfinals by the Canucks.

Las Vegas lost to the Stanley Cup champion Dallas Stars in five games in the Western Conference finals.

Dallas Stars forward Denis Gurlanov scored three minutes into overtime to lift the Stars to a 3-2 win over the Las Vegas Golden Knights, sending them to the Stanley Cup Finals.

The Stars eliminated the Golden Knights in five games and will represent the Western Conference in the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time in 20 years.

It has truly been a strange season for Dallas, that came with many ups and downs, making the trip to the finals even sweeter for the team and fans that have been long for the ride.

The Stars started off the season winning only one of their first nine games and ended the season with a six-game losing streak. However, they played like the best team in the league between those two strange periods of losing.

Dallas then fired their coach in December and have been led to the finals by interim coach Rick Bowness.

Gurianov’s goal in overtime came after a frantic third period in which the Stars were down 0-2. Jamie Benn and Joel Kiviranta netted two goals in the final period, taking the Stars into overtime where Gurianov would seal the deal and punch the team’s ticket to the Stanley Cup Finals.

The Stars will face the winner of the Tampa Bay Lightning-New York Islanders series, which Tampa Bay leads 3-1.

Game 7 of the first round Western Conference series between the San Jose Sharks and the Las Vegas Golden Knights couldn’t have been any tighter.

Overtime was necessary to resolve the result between the two teams, with the Sharks taking the game, the win, and the series.

All this after climbing back from a 3-0 deficit that they faced in the middle of the third quarter and after living one of the most insane endings to an NHL playoff game in the history of the league.

After a major penalty was called against the Golden Knights’ Cody Eakin, the Sharks went on a 5-minute power play. What happened next was hard to believe.

The Sharks scored not one, not two, not three, but four goals in the five-minute span to take a 4-3 lead. The arena rocked as the fans cheered on a comeback that they could hardly believe or imagine possible.

Logan Couture scored two of the goals in this amazing comeback, and Tomas Hertl and Kevin Labanc added one each.

Incredibly, though, Vegas tied up the game with only 45 seconds to go with a Jonathan Marchessault goal to send the game to overtime.

The Sharks got the last laugh, however, as Barclay Goodrow scored a winner in the final two minutes to send the arena into pandemonium and book the Sharks a ticket to the next round to play against the Colorado Avalanche.
