The New Orleans Pelicans forward Larry Nance Jr. is expected to be sidelined for between four and six weeks due to reaggravating a right rib fracture. The forward initially injured his ankle during the preseason, resulting in his missing four games. He missed the Pelicans’ 124-114 win over the Philadelphia 76ers due to illness.

During his 14 appearances this season, Nance has averaged 3.5 points and 4.1 rebounds per game in 15.1 minutes. While his impact on the court has been limited, he has nevertheless been viewed as a vital member of the Pelicans’ locker room.

The Pelicans have endured major injury struggles this season, with their players missing a combined 64 games this season. Fortunately, New Orleans has received some positive injury news, with veteran guard CJ McCollum returning against the Sixers after a 12-game absence due to suffering a punctured lung.

While the NBA remains quiet about its plans for the suspended 2019/20 season, basketball players are increasingly vocal about their wish to continue the competition. One of them is Cleveland Cavaliers’ Larry Nance Jr., who recently argued that the NBA needs to have a champion despite concerns over the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

In a video conference with reporters on Tuesday, Nance shared his opinion on a variety of topics, including the resume of the 2019/20 NBA season. According to the 27-year-old, he wants to play and remains optimistic that the league will continue the competition soon.

Lance then explained that he wants to see NBA crowning a new champion even though his team isn’t in the position of winning the title.

“We’re not in a position to win a championship this year, but if I was — if I was Giannis [Antetokounmpo], if I was LeBron [James], if I was Kawhi [Leonard] — If I was on one of those championship-caliber teams, I’d be pretty upset about it,” said Nance. “Because it’s very rare in this league that a chance like this comes along, and that’s taken a valuable year off someone’s career. I want to see someone win. If it can’t be us, I want to see someone. “

It remains to be seen whether Nance and the rest of us get to witness champion being crowned this year. NBA reportedly discussed a variety of options, including heading straight to playoffs and playing all games on one or two locations but still hasn’t made the final decision.

In the meantime, other sports leagues around the world are slowly resuming their activities. German Bundesliga is scheduled to resume until the end of May, while English Premier League should restart in June. On the other hand, some leagues like French Ligue 1 and Dutch Eredivisie took a different approach and canceled the remainder of the season.

When Larry Nance Jr. joined the Cleveland Cavaliers on the trade deadline, many people started speculating that he could end up wearing the No.22 jersey, which belonged to his father, Larry Nance Sr. and was retired by the Cavs. Nance Jr. ended up taking the No.24, although his father wanted him to wear his number.

Now, it looks like Nance Sr. managed to convince his son to change his mind since Larry announced on Thursday that he will be wearing No.22 moving forward.

I’ll be wearing No. 22 from here on out,” – said Nance Jr. on Thursday, after the 110-103 loss to the Washington Wizards. “My dad’s jersey will get to stay retired in the rafters, so, I couldn’t be happier with it. I think that starts next week, and I’m thrilled. I’ve been wearing 22 my whole life, and to get to wear it for the Cleveland Cavaliers is beyond a dream come true.

Larry Nance Jr. will continue wearing No. 24 for the next few games, and is expected to make the switch to No. 22 for the first time on Tuesday, when the Cleveland Cavaliers play against the Brooklyn Nets.

After being drafted 27th overall in the 2015 NBA draft by the Los Angeles Lakers, Larry Nance Jr. was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers alongside Jordan Clarkson on February 8, 2018. In 42 games played for the Lakers, he averaged 8.6 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.

Larry Nance Sr., on the other hand, played for the Cleveland Cavaliers from 1988 to 1994. During his time with the Cavs, Lance Sr. was named into NBA All-Defensive First Team in 1989 and was selected as an All-Star two times (1989 and 1993).

Take a deep breath if you are a Cleveland Cavaliers fan. The Cavs have used the NBA trade deadline to the max and basically reshaped their roster. The team has entered in a series of bad games since January, dealing with poor defense and locker room issues, so something needed to be done to keep their NBA Finals hopes alive. Still, no one expected so many changes in such a short period of time.

The biggest trade the team has made was one with the Los Angeles Lakers. The Cavs sent point guard Isaiah Thomas, forward Channing Frye and their first-round lottery protected 2018 draft pick to the Lakers in exchange for guard Jordan Clarkson and forward Larry Nance Jr.

The second trade Cavaliers made was a three-team deal, which also included Utah Jazz and Sacramento Kings. The Cavs received guards Rodney Hood and George Hill from the Jazz and Kings respectively. The Kings got Iman Shumpert and a 2020 second-round pick from the Cavs and Joe Johnson from the Jazz. Finally, the Jazz got Jae Crowder and Derrick Rose from Cleveland.

The last trade saw Dwyane Wade heading back to the Miami Heat, with the Cavs getting a heavy protected second-round draft pick.

While there will lots of analyzing of these deals in the upcoming days, when the dust settles, the first impression is that the Cleveland Cavaliers got better with all these trades. Although the team won’t have much time to settle into a rhythm, the Cavs got younger, more athletic and in theory should be better on the defensive end. They got rid of Thomas and Crowder, who performed well below expectations since their arrival from Boston in Kyrie Irving deal. Aso, they have cleared the air in the locker room and could use a fresh start. Finally, the team has shown that they are still ready to surround LeBron James with the tools he needs to make a push for his eight NBA Finals appearance and maybe convince him to stay in Cleveland.
