Larry Fitzgerald isn’t officially retired from the NFL. But that might be just a formality as the Arizona Cardinals legendary wideout isn’t itching to get back to the field again.

Fitzgerald made this revelation during a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s weekly radio show Let’s Go, which he hosts with Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady and sportscaster Jim Gray.

“For now, I’ll be a radio broadcaster,” said Fitzgerald when asked whether he would rather do radio or play in NFL. “To be honest with you, I just don’t have the urge to play right now.”

Fitzgerald did leave the door open for a potential change of heart, however.

“I don’t know how I’ll feel in September, October, November moving forward, but I just, today, I just don’t have the urge,” he added.

Larry Fitzgerald spent 17 years in the NFL, playing his entire career with the Arizona Cardinals and earning 11 Pro Bowl nods. He has 1,432 career receptions and 17,492 receiving yards, second only to Jerry Rice on the all-time list. Fitzgerald’s 121 receiving touchdowns are the sixth most in NFL history.

Fitzgerald is currently an unrestricted free agent after his contract with the Cardinals expired following the 2020 NFL season. Arizona previously indicated that they would love to have him back for one more year if he decides to do so.

Arizona Cardinals’ Pro Bowl wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald is still figuring out whether he’ll play professional football next year or it’s time for him to retire. The 35-year-old confirmed this himself in a text message to ESPN’s NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

According to Schefter, Fitzgerald told him that he would take some time to think about his decision and “collect his thoughts” after a troubling season in which the Cardinals had the worst record in the NFL.

Larry Fitzgerald also wasn’t himself in 2018, managing to catch 69 passes for 734 yards and six touchdowns. In the three years before that, Fitzgerald had at least 1,023 receiving yards in each of them.

The fact that Arizona has hired former Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury as their new HC reportedly won’t affect Fitzgerald’s decision. Kingsbury, on the other hand, would like to see the 11-times Pro Bowler playing next year.

“I’ll leave it to these guys who write the checks,” – sais Kingsbury of Fitzgerald. “Like I said, what a great role model, what a great leader to have on your team, and I would be honored and love to work with him. He’s a guy that I’ve admired from afar for a long time, and I think we all hope that he’ll be back.”

Larry Fitzgerald, who was drafted third overall by the Cardinals in the 2004 NFL Draft, has 1,303 receptions for 16,279 yards throughout his career. He finds himself third on the all-time career receptions list behind Tony Gonzalez, trailing 23 catches, while he is second on the all-time receiving yards list behind Jerry Rice.

Arizona Cardinals’ wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald is apparently a one-team man. Fitzgerald, who was drafted into the NFL by the Cardinals in 2004, said on Monday that he doesn’t intend to play for any other team during the rest of his career.

If I’m not playing in Arizona, I won’t be playing anywhere,”- said Fitzgerald during his youth camp in his native Minnesota. “I’ve built a good life for myself down there. Playing in the same place for 15 years is a true blessing.

Larry Fitzgerald, who will be 35 once the 2018 season starts, is currently ranked third all-time in receptions and receiving yards while leading all active players in those two categories. He is also ranked eighth in receiving touchdowns. Fitzgerald might be ranked higher on all of these lists soon since he thinks he can still produce at a high level despite his age. His numbers in the recent years are proving that since Fitzgerald has had more than 100 receptions and more than 1,000 receiving yards in the last three seasons.

It doesn’t really matter about the age, it’s about what you put into it and your mindset,” – he said. “Everybody kind of takes numbers and assumes this is when it’s supposed to end. As an athlete, fortunately, you write your own script. If you still produce and you play at a high level, you kind of determine how long you want to play.”

Although Arizona Cardinals lost their head coach and quarterback at the end of 2017 NFL seasons, it looks like they will at least keep their wide receiver, Larry Fitzgerald. New Cardinals coach Steve Wilks recently spoke with The Doug & Wolf Show on 98.7 FM in Arizona and revealed that Fitzgerald will be with the team in 2018 as well.

Larry mentioned to me last night that he’s coming back for the 2018 season. … He’s totally committed, those are his words. We’re ecstatic to have him part of the Arizona Cardinals,” – said Wilks.

This is great news for Cardinals fans who were afraid that Larry Fitzgerald could follow the path of Carson Palmer and Bruce Arians, who decided to retire after the season wrapped up. The 34-year-old Fitzgerald hinted that he could be back in 2018 during his appearance at the NFL Network’s Super Bowl pregame show.

I’m excited about what the future holds,” – said Fitzgerald when asked about the opportunity to play for Wilks. “Obviously there are some things that need to happen in terms of personnel, draft and things like that to help our team improve, but I’m confident that [general manager] Steve Keim and his group are going to do a good job with that.

Larry Fitzgerald entered the NFL in 2004 when the Arizona Cardinals drafted him with the third overall pick in that year’s draft. Since then he was selected 11 times for Pro-Bowl, has one First-team All-Pro (2008)and two Second-team All-Pro selections. During his NFL career, Fitzgerald was also NFL receptions leader on two occasions and also led the league in receiving touchdowns two years. As of 2017, Fitzgerald is ranked third all-time in receptions and receiving yards, while leading all active players in both categories. He is also ranked eighth in receiving touchdowns.
